Everything about this movie is almost perfect, from the genius casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, to the surprise after the end credits. Major props to Jon Favreau (did you notice him as one of Tony's guards?), because by him keeping in touch with the fans, I felt he exceeded everyone's expectations. The best Marvel Comics movie, since Spider-Man 2.

5/2/2008 Update: I've seen my DVD about 7 times already, and I've never gotten tried of it. I'm just going to declare this as my new favorite movie.

I enjoyed this movie far better than expected. At first, I thought "To Live and Die in L.A." was just the name of a Tupac Shakur song--I had no idea it was the name of an actual movie. But besides having a sick car chase (I LOVE car chases!) and Willem Dafoe (who I'd see in anything), my main motivation for buying this movie on Amazon was my all-time favorite TV show, "Miami Vice". In fact, the show's executive producer, Michael Mann, sued William Friedkin for plagerism (Mann lost, but they're good friends now). The similarities are there, but the movie is far grittier and darker than the series could have ever been. As far as morals go, there are literally no good characters in this movie. Everyone's either an antagonist or an anti-hero. The ending has a very good twist, which probably could have set the stage for a sequel, but looking back, it was a wise decision not to (I should also note that on the DVD, there's an alternate ending which was also wisely jettisoned, because it was horrible). The score by Wang Chung (yeah, THAT Wang Chung) is amazing, so is the always fun Willem Dafoe, setting the stage for the villainery typecasting he'd have for much of his career. But the biggest surprise I got out of TLADILA, was the new-found respect I have for William Peterson. It never dawned on me on how cool he was. It's painful to see him go from a character like Richard Chance--a reckless asshole with nothing really to live for, but is so ultra-cool, you gotta love him--to doing....C.S.I. He really should have been a box-office star!
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

The visuals are stunning and the cast all do amazing work, but of course, the movie belongs to its two leads. Brad Pitt paints Jesse James as a man whose not afraid of anything, but his own shadow. He's always paranoid: one scene I really liked was, near the moment in question, Jesse is sleeping in the same room with Bob Ford and his brother. A gun is on a dresser and Bob thinks he has a chance to kill him. But the moment his feet touch the floor--'click!'--Jesse has his pistol ready. Bob tells him he had to pee, to which Jesse replies, "You think you do, but you don't", and Bob climbs back into bed. Casey Affleck's performance as Bob Ford makes you want to hate the guy, because any way you view it, he is simply pitiful. He tries so hard to be something he's not, that even killing the most famous outlaw in history, can't help his cause. This is a really interesting movie, hurt only by the running time. Running at close to 3 hours, in the beginning, I felt the pacing was much too slow for my taste. In fact, they could have left out 15 to 30 minutes of it, and still manage to get its point across. But the 2nd half of it, including the 'assassination' and the aftermath, was the deciding factor for me. Great stuff.

This was the directorial debut of David Ayer, writer of one of my favorite movies, "Training Day". Like TD, we are taken on another joyride down the mean streets of L.A., as two best friends attempt to find jobs, but get caught up in drinking, drugs, and flirting with other dangers. But the main focus is on Christian Bale's character, Jim. Although Freddy Rodriguez' character, Mike, is loyal to the bone with Jim, Jim's mental health issues places them both on a path of self-destruction, leading to inevitable tragedy. Fine work by all, but it's no question Bale is the standout, once you get past his sad attempts at speaking slang language, which seem to work better for Rodriguez. Though not as good as TD, "Harsh Times" is a worthy follow-up, highlighted by the rising screen great that is Christian Bale.

I honestly didn't expect to like this movie. It uses the same Disney formula from 99.9% of its animated movies, but the live-action aspect of it was surprisingly entertaining.
The Brave One

If it wasn't an intense, character-driven drama, "The Brave One" would have easily been a knock-off of "Death Wish" (but don't expect Jodie Foster to fully go Charles Bronson on us, though--it's not THAT kind of party). Great work by Foster and Terrence Howard, but the ending is a bit unfulfilling.

Do not read this if you want to see this movie!You have been warned.Ok now then.I wanted to see this movie because I love Naomi Watts.Now for the life of me I can't understand why the girl would bother getting involved in a movie like this.It's an utter MESS.Pointless,plotless,and so boring and dragged out at times you could go do meaningless tasks for 10 minute stretches during certan parts of this.Honestly in my opinion a complete waste of film.I would like to see the original (I think) but there is just NO answers,like why were these 2 white gloved weirdos doing all tyhis crap AT ALL?Also WHO in their right minds could just carry on and barely even cry or be upset after their son has just been blown away in front of them.WHAAAAAAAAAAAATEVER.Totally unrealistic.CRAP I really wanted to like this one.Hey, you should really NOT see this!

In Bruges
by ♥LisaThis was a pretty cool movie,I was just expecting more of what the trailer gives us.What you get though is kind of an unexpected suprise.A story of Regret,Haunting memories and even sadness at times.It's kind of a dark comedy,I liked it ,like I said if you are looking for the whole movie to be like the trailer you will most likely be disappointed.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

Sure creeped me out,had me perched on top of the couch with the lights on bright as the dam sun.LMAo.Anyway Really good film.I really like Del Toro I don't undertsnad why he gets so much crap,He is very unique and I think VERY creative.Anyhow I highly recommend this one for when you want the bejesus scared out of you...several times =)

Iron Man

Just got back! What a ride! My youngest said he liked it better than Transformers.This was very cool.I agree with all of you You must see this in the theater if nothing else for the sound.I am such a THX/digital sound geek.But there are parts like when he breaks the sound barrier that you are just not going to get in your living room.Awesome movie start to finish.Robert Downey Jr was amazing as was Gwyneth, and I think I love every role Terrence Howard has ever played.Dam Jeff Bridges plays a great bad guy too.Great stuff here people alot of amazing visual effects to be appreciated here,When he starts getting familiar with the suit for the first time and first flight its like well an Eyegasm.Very cool stuff! 5 stars.Two thumbs up, whatever you want it to be just go see it.In the Theater! =)

I can't believe I actually did NOT want to see this movie.With that said,I know I am the last human breathing to have seen it.Holy Shit this is notw in my top 5 fav movies of all time.This was White Hot!Wicked Crazy Script,Stellar cast,and the way the shot the whole movie was not only cool is was kinda sexy.I was groovin the Black and White thing and just a little color here and there.I'm serious this was Outstanding.Oh I will say this Yeesh,I will never loook at Elijah Wood the same way again,Ever!.This movie is the shit people,If you haven't seen it watch it very soon.Some of the coolest kill scenes I have ever watched.LOVED IT!!!!!
