Some people call me the space cowboy...
My name is John. I make a living by watching as many movies as I possibly can. That's right, I'm a movie buff. I love movies. They keep me calm and entertained. It's really hard for me to find movies that I will enjoy from start to finish. It's even harder to find ones I will enjoy more than once. Because of this little unfortunate occurrence, I've decided that I want to make movies of my own. It's my dream to be a director/writer for movies of all kinds. I'm currently working on some short films. I hope to have at least five scripts "down n' done" by November 1st. In the mean time... I'll be at the movies and working on as many reviews as I'm capable of. The list for upcoming reviews of mine are as follow: 2001: A Space Odyssey Alien Aliens American Beauty American History X Apocalypse Now Army Of Darkness Batman (1989) Batman Begins Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan The Brothers Grimm Bull Durham Crash The Departed Disturbia Dogma Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying & Love The Bomb The Empire Strikes Back The Evil Dead Evil Dead 2 The Exorcist Eyes Wide Shut Forrest Gump Frida Full Metal Jacket The Fugitive Gangs Of New York Gladitor The Golden Compass GoodFellas The Green Mile Grindhouse / Death Proof / Planet Terror Hellboy Hot Fuzz In Bruges Inside Man Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade Juno Kill Bill: Volume 1 Kill Bill: Volume 2 Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005) L.A. Shaun of the Dead
R
Edgar Wright's directional debut and what a fine film it is. A horror/comedy has been done before, but not like this. The only problem was the strain of it all. Too much, too little? Too hard to tell.
Shaun, the salesman, is in a mix-up with his life. With a dead relationship with his ex, a killer hate for his step dad, and a daily routine aside the roommate, Shaun is way down on all luck. As if it couldn't get any worse... (I spoke too soon). Oh no! Zombies are multiplying in size and taking over London! What's the plan, then? Get his girl back, make mends with the folks, and sort life out. Oh, and try not to get eaten alive.
There is where my weak spot is. I don't mean the nerve in my body that, if pushed, completely exaggerates my level of enjoyment. Not at all that. It's the area which exasperates my frustration. The place this falls under is the plot. Though the constant gags and giggles are witty as well as original and creative, the way it goes is unusual. There isn't a single moment where the next scene becomes obvious. It's spontaneous, but not random during. Without any anticipation or distinct direction, adding little action or screening, it's easy to loose interest in what's going on. But I digress.
Other than that, the flaws fall short.

Fight Club

[new review coming soon]
As plain and simple as i can express it: this is the most exhilarating film i have ever witnessed. from the second it started i was entertained. it had a nice opening scene and after that, i was anticipating ever other scene to come along. Never have i seen a film with such detail. it was nearly-perfect, the music was superb and the visuals were vicious eye-candy. this also carried the always mind-blowing, creative art of foreshadow. however, to tend to miss all the noticeable clues during your first viewing. this is again, a movie you will have to watch a few times. One of the biggest themes of this film was how dark and horrifying the atmosphere is, yet it did spring in some raunchy and risque humor. but what impressed me the most was the character's lifestyle. he needed a serious change in his life if he were to carry on in the world. and he did change his life...but later, he realizes just how much change he had. it may be confusing to interpret what i have written, but it will all make sense when you see the film.
...AND: In my opinion, a movie is only as good as its ending. Most of you may disagree, but to me every film needs a surprising way of climaxing. Cliff-hangers DO NOT fall under this category. Sorry, they just don't. Anyway, the reason as to why FIGHT CLUB is my all-time favorite movie, is because it has EVERYTHING I look for in a movie. "Are you watching closely?". Here's what it has that makes it such an irresistible experience - Narration, Dark Humor, Foreshadow, Cliches, Morals, Remarkable Special Effects, An Original Score, Twists & Turns, Split-personality, Feuds, Relationships, Violence, Risque Occurences, Sensational Directing & Aacting [...and lastly...] The Most Instense & Surprising Ending Ever Shown On Screen!
FIGHT CLUB = PERFECTION
Wanted

[Rough Draft.. sorry about all the errors]
this movie had some chance of decentsy, but as i sat through the first few minutes... i already knew it was just another lame thriller with limited suspense and a terrible plot. i liked the story... but the way it was filmed had ruined it for me. it seemed like a teenage basher film. the character, environment, and inner struggle was similar to Fight Club... so i was begining to gain interst... but in a blink of an eye, i discovered it's true colors. The mean, over-weight boss who loved to spred the "Fuck" and click against nerves with a red, Swingline Stapler in an office setting [rip-off of Office Space.. or so it seemed anyway]. the Boss was the the second Obnxious element i had to witness. the first was the introductry assassination. the window crash and hovered body was irritating. the Special Effects were Cheesy, but no where near as bad as the accting. They overdid the Slow-motion, much like 300 did. The ending got me backinto the mood, til Freeman said "Shoot this MotherFucker" in a slanged up way. Also, this movie just had no originality. It reminded me of various films [if you've seen WANTED and the following list, then hopefully you'll know what i mean]. FIGHT CLUB, STAR WARS EPISODE V, BLADE RUNNER, BATMAN BEGINS... and the list goes on
ALSO.............[to sumarize..]
it had bad acting, cheesy special effects, and absolutely no originality. it was a suck-fest. i can understand why certain people liked it... you'll get an adrenalin rush while ignoring everything else. It was a dark movie... and reminded of Fight Club in some ways... i even liked the story and inner struggle with Wesley... but it was so irritating. The rats and Freeman's "Shoot this motherfucker" made it easier to hate the movie. Also... Danny Elfman's score was less than decent... he gave it no rhythm and it didn't suit the environment at all....
the only part i liked was when Wesley shoved his gun through the Exterminator and shot everyone else around him
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
R
When it somes to working with Depp, Burton sure ends up with a success. Quite the tatered tale. This film was scary, funny, and very entertaining. There was an exajerated about of gore. The Music was hysterical. All the lyrics have such a homuress gl...(read more)ow in such a dark envioronment. Burton knew exactly what he was doing when he recreated "Sweeney Todd" into what came out to be a deadly and intense experience.
Catch Me If You Can
PG-13
A thriller that keeps on giving scene after scene of clever workmanship. Spielberg not only provided a wonderful cast, but also a brilliant take on the life of Frank Abignale Jr. This film is just amazing. The film's intensity progresses throughout the movie. I definitely think that any one who's any one should see this. It's quite a shock!

Sleuth
PG
This psychological thriller deserves more appreciation. It has a brilliant script, beautiful scenery, and two exciting performances by two very talented actors. There?s not a bore or dull moment in plain view which gives Sleuth a near perfected work of art. A young hairdresser named Milo Tindle is invited to a greeting with his lover?s husband, Andrew Wyke. It?s all just fun and games with the ol? prow. A simple conversation over the woman that ties them together ? Marguerite ? soon turns into a rather funny sort of action, but is taken too far when a gun is fired and a man disappears. But it?s only now, that the game truly begins. It?s difficult to say how much I admire the plot without unveiling any hidden aspects? but I?ll try. A game is all it is, really. Just a game; A ravage struggle between two men which is taken too seriously. The way it precedes is so non- expecting. There?s nothing predictable about it. Just when you think you?ve got everything figured, a new surprise comes a-knockin?. All the twists and turns will make your head spin. You really have no idea what?s going to happen next, but you desperately want to find out. Simply put, it?s a funhouse ith no escape. You become a part of the game. BOOM! That was the sound of Michael Caine blowing your mind He plays a shady, devious, little twitter whom reinvents the game?s rules. He?s cunning, stealthy, crude, crass, sly. Almost villain-like. He captures the essence of a real maniac. Not in the sort of ?serial killer? manner, but more like that of a trickster. Laurence Olivier was the master of the show! He brought so much energy and life to his character. In his funhouse of toys and games he actually seemed like a kid. The innocence, sent, smile, joy and freedom felt natural and convincing. He wasn?t like a kid, he was a kid. All of enchantment and majestic of these two flawless performances made Sleuth a mastering piece of art. All it had was two actors ? TWOACTORS! It worked out more than expected? Let the games begins.

V for Vendetta
R
A powerful, political notion in the motion picture industry. The majority of the dialog is sensational leaving morals and metaphors through out. Within a year, a masked-man who's recognized only by the letter 'V' changes a corrupted civilization, by giving it reclamation. V For Vendetta will give you nothing less than a sering thought of astonishment.

Forrest Gump
PG-13
This was an inspirational film. Tom Hanks brings his best performance here. I'm always so impressed with this ever time I watch it. There's so much movement and energy occurring throughout this film.

Changeling
by NicolaïThis is going to get allot nominated for the upcomming oscars i resume, best picture, actress, director, screenplay.
It defenitly deserves actress and director
Directing: My favorite Eastwood directed movie. it really is briljant, better then his 2 other oscar winning movies Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, it does have the Eastwood style.
Acting; An oscar worthy performance by Angelina Jolie, i didnt know she could act that great, that she could do the drama, i actually saw here more as an action actress. The movie wouldnt be this good without here performance. now you can actually live into the movie. But im not really convinced by Jeffrey Donovan his performance as the Captain of police. Malkovich on the other hand had did a great job to.
2008: As i havnt seen allot of serious movies from 2008, i cannot really compare it to anything for the oscars, but i do hope this movie gets allot of nominee's which it deserves. I hope i'll still see some other serious movies from 2008, but here in belgium they only get released at the end of the year.Hey, you should really see this!

Into the Wild
by NicolaïProbaly the best movie you will see these days, its a classic, underrated but still a classic, wonderfull movie.
Directing: I dindt knew Sean Penn would be a great director, but he sure is a great one. The style is so beautiful, you can really feel what McCandless feels, the freedom, the joy, hapiness. Very nicely done to with the flashbacks to. Really great directed
Acting: Emile Hirsh deserved an oscar for his performance in this movie, this is one of the best performances you will see these years, but he didnt even got a nominee. He's gonna be a great actor, and a real one to, not a Shia Labouf type our a Zac Efron disney kid.
Script: Wondefull script, its a real inspiaring script, all the quotes, his adventures, the conversations. To me this is the most inspiaring movie ever made/written.Hey, you should really see this!

Scarface
by NicolaïMy favorite movie of all time ! This movie really is the most perfect movie that i have ever seen! I dont even like movies about drugs, but this story has something special, something unique. Afterall its Oliver Stone who wrote the movie.
Directing: Brian DePalma did an excellent job on this movie, even tho he got nominated for a razzie for this movie. He did more then perfect, the atmosphere in this movie is top, you can feel the luxery, the trouble he has, his anger, the love....
Acting: Offcourse this is one of the many reasons why Pacino is my fav. actor of all time. I never saw a better performance in my life than this one. All the supporting actors where great to, only i have my doubts about Elizabeth Mastrantonio (tony's sister)
Score: Very fantastic score to by Giorgio Morodor, i like all the theme's in this movie. expecially the one who was used for Gina and Elvira, without this score it would have been a total diffrent movie.Hey, you should really see this!

Felon
by DanielleEverything seems to be going well for Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff). His construction business is taking off, he's about to be married, and life seems stable. Then, someone breaks into his house. Wade pursues the intruder out of his home and hits him with a bat, killing him instantly. Unable to get together bail money and assigned a court-appointed attorney, Wade sits in county lockup waiting for pre-trial motions. After a few months, the district attorney offers Wade a deal: plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and do three years in prison with all his time in county jail going towards the sentence. While on the bus being transported to the prison, he's witness to a killing by famous inmate Danny Samson. Wade has the murder weapon placed on him. Now, he's in a tough predicament: if he rats on Samson he's as good as dead, but if he doesn't, he'll get locked up in the Security Housing Unit (SHU), a place for violent offenders ruled by sadistic guard Jackson (Harold Perrineau). Wade opts to keep silent and is eventually placed in the SHU, where his new roommate is notorious mass-murderer John Smith (Val Kilmer). Wade now has to fight to stay alive and keep his family together against the intense pressures of prison life. Stephen Dorff is also wholly believable as Wade Porter. He's asked to turn from an average Joe into a brutal killer. Dorff gives a very convincing performance. Felon boasts an atmosphere of authenticity that proves instrumental in allowing one to easily overlook its sporadic flaws. Felon is a gritty, thoroughly compelling prison drama.
