Casablanca (1942, Unrated)
This is my all time favourite movie, (so far) I don't think anything can top it. The atmosphere is amazing, the chemestry between the actors is just mind blowing and the way the entire movie is made is just inspirational. Very strong performances. It's just not your average love story (made up by producers as they went along, plot holes, and midgits to give the illusion that a carboard cut out of a plane is the real thing) with real worthy characters. In my view: one of the best movies ever made. |

Fight Club (1999, R)
I love this film. The character's in it are amazing... and you just can't stop watching Edward Norton. I guess you can kinda see the twist coming but i didn't really expect it. The movie kinda plays like a book more than anything with a high moralistic feeling of moving one thing to another. The dialogue is perfect combining poetry and quotes from oscar wilde to name but one litterary aspect give that art house atmosphere. Brad pitt isn't bad in it either. Despite being ocassionally violent, it's just easy and fun to watch. |

Personally I thrive for Scorsese's mainstream stuff and i'm not afraid to admit that, those who say they've been loyal followers from Taxi Driver etc... well I'm not... but I live for movies of this calibre. Its perfect in its own right. Apart from all the refrences to "Cock" this movie is an outstanding piece of cinematic history. Its got the legend that is Nicholson as the notorious gangster, something he carries off effortlessly as if his entire persona is sleaze and corruption. Matt Damon, someone who is constantly overlooked to prove himself... totally does it in this movie. Actually watching him would keep any audience member on the edge of their seat as his corrupt American dream humanity is constantly competing against DiCaprio's entire professionalism. In my eyes this is probably Dicaprio's hiatus role. His performance as out-of-luck undercover cop with the venerable side is captivating and I haven't seen a performance this good in many movies. The direction is effortless, it flows beautifully, and how separate lines of story merge together so completely makes this one of the best directed movies I've ever seen. My hat especially goes off to Mark Wahlberg, an actor who I'm not really interested in, for proving me wrong and being very memorable in this. Violent! Snappy dialogue. Outstanding performances. Effortless direction. Perfect. |

Little Miss Sunshine (2006, R)
For a basic road trip movie this is one of the best movies I've seen in ages. All the character's are diverse and interesting. Typically no matter how different they are they end up bonding together. Personally loved Steve Carell taking a back seat from the exuberant comic factor but still ends up being rather funny in his own unique style, also showed him totally pulling off a more serious role. Still think he's underrated as an actor but in this he's great. In fact all performances in this movie are what make this movie. That along with the very witty and cleverly written script making this seem like a parody of a "family" film by dealing with a lot of adult issues. Great message of how you don't have to achieve your dreams because life is already everything you could ever want. Extremely watchable feel-good movie !!! |

Well worth the wait. So so so Good. A lot darker than the original but also more action packed. Good evolution of characters and really strong performances. Some parts are hysterical. Everything you could want. Slightly iritating that somethings are unresolved but definately leaves you wanting more... Bring on the next movie! |

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003, PG-13)
What is not to like about this movie... it's original, its fun and it has a great cast. The story line is unique and keeps you riveted. Jonny Depp totally steals the show as Jack Sparrow and now has become one of the most legendary movie characters in history for doing so. Good chemistry between Bloom and Knightely and a quietly melodramatic performance from Rush. A totally unique and original story about Pirates cursed with immortality until a blood debt is repaid. Witty and fast dialogue, exciting action sequences and superb direction makes this a pleasure to watch at any time. Also on re-watching its nice to see the roots of the sequel push through without distracting from its own story. A truly great movie and one of my all time favourites! |
