Gran Torino Gran Torino R
I'm not sure what to say about this one. Good, but frustrating? It seems that many Eastwood films could be described that way. The premise is decent, Eastwood is terrific in his typically candid performance, but the writing is pretty ham-fisted and many of the supporting actors are appallingly bad. I've heard that Eastwood doesn't waste time with multiple takes and it shows in most of his films. It can either come across as simple and natural, or as cheesy and obvious. Normally, it depends on who is in the scene. Overall, the film is entertaining (and surprisingly funny!), but I just can't get over the brutal performances (particularly the young protege) and silly ending (the music over the credits? Come on!). A worthwhile film, especially for Eastwood fans, but - like Million Dollar Baby - too obviously flawed to be given a high rating.
Zombieland Zombieland R
A fairly entertaining film and one of the better ones for its genre. I expected a bit more based on early reviews, but it still satisfied. Cast was great, plot/writing was thin and incredibly predictable. Why can't more "zombie" movies be scary AND smart/funny? 28 Days Later remains the king of the zombie class for me, but this one is clearly meant to be more of a comedy than spookfest. It succeeds in being a bit of both. A good time-waster on DVD.

Fight Club Fight Club R
One of my all time favourites. Love the story, love the direction, love the energy. Man's suppression of his animal nature is a topic I enjoy exploring and this movie hits all the right notes.
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope PG
Can there be any doubt? Perhaps the greatest film of all time. An epic suitable for all ages, with timeless themes, unforgettable characters, and jaw-dropping scenes.
