Saw this on Boxing Day and it was pretty much what I expected. It is clumsy, cliche and predictable, but the visuals kinda help you forget that stuff. Much of this film does not make sense, and I groaned just about every time the cardboard cutout "villain" appeared on screen, but I also found myself squirming at vertigo-inducing moments, which tells me that at least the visuals were effective. Sam Worthington won't win an Oscar for his performance, but he was a sympathetic character and Zoe Saldana/Neytiri was very effective. Worthy of being the most expensive movie ever made? Probably not. Worthy of a viewing? Sure - but only if you like sci-fi/fantasy/action films. This film could probably bankroll NASA, but it isn't rocket science. Cameron, like Lucas, should find himself a good co-writer who can tell him when he's off the mark. For now, the visuals will suffice to give this a passing grade.
Dizzying film (pardon the pun) in that I was never quite sure what it was about. Lost love? Really? Obsession, maybe? Either way, Stewart makes it work for the most part, even if it is pretty creepy and the ending is a little much.
Often heralded as the greatest film in American history. I'm not sure I agree with that, but for its time it was certainly an epic. Great movie, though it bogs down in the second half and I'm not quite sure you ever care about the reporter's quest.
