The toned down Adam Sandler loses something. The premise could have worked with a little more heart and humor and a little less lame unfunny bits. And what the hell was Guy Pearce doing in this film, anybody with an accent and a sneer could have taken his role.
Loved the book. Might have gone in with expectations too high, but was expecting something a little more. It still delivers on both the emotional and entertainment levels and has some great performances.
A powerhouse of acting, cinematography, writing and direction. A great film with many layered textures. Had always put off seeing this because of the people recommending it to me. Big mistake. See it on the biggest screen possible.
Like most James Cameron movies it is overly long and destined to be over rated/hyped, but also like most Cameron movies, its great entertainment, especially in 3D. In 2D it might decline a half of a star. Good cast. Good story. Good special effects. Highly entertaining, but it isn't God as some would have you believe, its just a freaking movie.
Compulsions and sexual obsessions are explored as the wife of a top doctor gets involved with a patient at an asylum all according to the schemes of an ambitious lessor doctor. Well acted and directed with abounding interesting metaphors.
Your reaction to this film will depend on your ability to face the dark night of the soul. Yes, the film can be interpreted as being bleak, but it also shows the human capacity for survival and hope against the odds. A good script, good direction and superb performances add up to a highly effective film.
I had my doubts going into what looked like another teen vampire film, but I was pleasantly surprised. This turns out to be a dark fantasy, weaving an elaborate fantasy world within its story telling. A great cast adds to the fun. A good time. Hope the series continues.
I confess I'm not the biggest Angelina Jolie fan, but she does deliver quite a performance here. All the performances are first rate. The script is taunt throughout this amazing true story and of course Clint Eastwood continues to prove he is one of the best directors around. If you're on the fence about this one, give it a shot.
Nice ensemble cast heist peace. Memorable characters, good action sequences and interspersed humor create a fun ride. The violence towards the 2 female leads might be off putting as might the dog fighting subplot.
A blood soaked, adrenaline rush! Rain makes a greater impression on Western audiences here than he did with Speed Racer. Just as a warning, it has some gore, so if you if you have a problem with seeing people being chopped to bits (literally), go run back to a PG13 film please. This is a hard R.
An intriguing start, and some great scary moments in the middle of the film, but then it just fizzles. If they had come up with a better ending, this would have been one of the better Clive Barker adaptations.
