| Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) - PG |
The character of Harry in the movie is really a big jerk compared to the one in the book, but I think the actor does a fine job with the script and direction. Hermione's character seems less likable than her book counterpart, as well, but Ron seems about right I think. The movie seems to be about 20-30 minutes too long and could have benefited from removing some of the stuff with Hagrid and the Forbidden Forest. The dragon hatching, for example, has no payoff in the movie so should have been eliminated. I had not read the book the first time I saw it and it all seemed useless. The moving stairs were annoying and obviously crafted just to put the students accidentally into the room with Fluffy. Overall, it is a disappointing film because I feel that the filmmakers had the opportunity to make a timeless movie but, instead, went for something that simply capitalized on the Harry Potter craze. |

| The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - PG | Yet another telling of this story that, as all of the other versions have done, changes things up. The books weren't even the first version, so don't go in looking for something based strictly on the novels. | August 10, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Legally Blonde - PG-13 | Much funnier than I expected going in. If someone wanted to call it a comedy classic, I'm not sure I'd argue with them. | August 9, 2007 | N/A | |||
| The Simpsons Movie - PG-13 | You know how it often seems as if the best, funniest jokes from a movie are all included in the trailer? This movie sets that convention on its ear by actually being funnier than the promos suggested. Also, the writers did a nice job of including many laugh-inducing moments without trying to cram the movie full of references to the series. Yes, there are some allusions to particular points in Simpsons history, but the movie never becomes one big in-joke that it easily could have. | August 6, 2007 | N/A | |||

| Freaky Friday - PG | Not as good as the classic original, of course, but Jamie Lee Curtis's presence makes this new one fairly watchable. | August 2, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Jeepers Creepers - R | This is more creepers than jeepers - pretty stupid and not really all that scary. | August 2, 2007 | N/A | |||

| Vanilla Sky - R | Not bad, in spite of having Cruise and Diaz in it. The original, "Open Your Eyes," is better. | August 2, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Crocodile Dundee II - PG | August 2, 2007 | N/A | ||||
| Crash - R | Nowhere near as good as the hype suggests. After seeing it, I read a review calling it "hamfisted" and I agree that that is the best way to describe it. | August 2, 2007 | N/A | |||
