Extreme movie nerd and wannabe novelist. I probably should belong to "Movies Anonymous" or something. I can't go a day without watching at least one flick. I CANNOT stand movies that don't appeal to my intellect or sense of humor so that may explain a lot of my scalding reviews. I don't like having my IQ lowered when watching a movie (i.e. Biodome). I don't like wasting $7 to watch a crappy movie or $2 to rent an even crappier one. I don't like "Hollywood Schmaltz" or in lamens terms, cheesy dialogue that no real human being will ever say (i.e. S.W.A.T). I also loathe severe diatribes of over-dramatical over-acting. Marlon Brando's "Stella!!!!!!!" is classic. William Shatner's "Khaaannnnnnn!!!!!!" is just plain silly. If we have anything in common add or email me. I'm always up for making new friends :-)
MOVIE GENRES I AVOID LIKE ANTHRAX... -- Bollywood productions. (With one exception, any movie Aishwarya Rai stars in. She's dreamy!) -- Anything released straight-to-DVD. (Final Destination 4, Home Alone 4) or as I like to call the movie "kiss of death." -- Unneccessary horrid sequels (Butterfly Effect 2, Caddyshack 2, Beverly Hills Cop 3) -- French movies that do not star Audrey Tatou or Johnny Depp's hot wife. -- Asian movies where there's no martial arts or wars going on. Ass kicking is a requisite. -- Movies or documentaries that bash America (i.e. Michael "Hack" Moore). -- Really cheap/stupid horror films (Puppet Master IV, V) -- Any movies that came out before 1939 (The modern cinema era began with Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz in 1939). -- Movies that glamorize terrorism. Blowing yourself up to kill children is NEVER honorable. -- Anything that stars Fran Drescher and/or Gerard Depardieu. -- Nicolas Cage movies when he's playing Nicolas Cage. (Next = sucks. Matchstick Men = brilliant) -- Will Smith movies when he's playing Will Smith. (Wild Wild West = sucks. Ali = brilliant) -- Tom Cruise and his voodoo magic. ----- Rest in peace, Heath. We will miss you. P.S. If I dis your country's movies it doesn't make me a racist. It just means your cinema sucks canal water. Develop better actors and directors! I'm not a hater. I just hate lame cinema. If you don't approve of my reviews there are plenty of brick walls to complain at. I don't go complaining about your reviews do I? |

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
PG
The best movie ever. Changed how Hollywood operated and changed how we look at movies. The only thing to ever come close to its power and scope was The Empire Strikes Back.
2.
Reservoir Dogs
R
Sets the bar for cool. I love this movie's dialogue so much that I will just play the movie and just listen to the movie without really watching. Only outdone by Pulp Fiction.
3.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
PG
Mythic and poignant in its own right, this is no sequel, but a simple continuation to the original. Of course, all the Star Wars movies are like that. ESB's strength is its acting and story line. Luke's training with Yoda may be one of the most powerful movie moments ever. Luke slowly begins to realize that the fate of everything lies on his shoulders and he is woefully under-prepared. Charming, but also dark enough to be enjoyable for anyone.
4.
The Big Lebowski
R
The Coen Brothers' are masters at developing characters and Jeff Bridges' work as The Dude may be their best. I guess I related to this character more than I have any other movie character out there. I love bowling, white russians and once got into a fight with three Germans. I also dated a woman who became a porn star and have an ex-girlfriend named Maude who's an artist. I'm also a bit lazy at times. This is a fun, trippy and totally absurd movie, but damn I love it. It never gets old.
5.
Cool Hand Luke
Unrated
In my opinion, Paul Newman's best movie and one of the best stories ever. Not really a movie, but a commentary on man's relationship with his God and how we choose to keep living and fighting even though we know we're all doomed to die eventually. Great acting, especially from George Kennedy, who won an Oscar for his role. It's highly emotional and highly entertaining.
How thrillers should be made. No need for high-tech gadgetry or CGI. Just a good story, good writing and good execution on film.

Vantage Point
by K JBy now almost everyone has read the reviews of Vantage Point- some good, many bad.... Thumbs up from me because I enjoyed the different points of view of the same occurrence. Though the film might not be realistic enough for most, the drama and action were well executed, and the acting was terrific. The twists of the film made me say WOW a few times.
Hey, you should really see this!

Music Within
by K JA biopic on Richard Pimentel, leader of the movement and organization which lead to the development and passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.... Inspiring on so many levels, not the least of which is how we view people based upon their appearance. Music Within is outstandingly directed and the acting is superb. Heartfelt, insightful, humorous and informative....

A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
by K JAn autobiographical film from first timer Dito Montiel which is dramatic and character driven. The film offers a penetrating raw and gritty look into living life in a threatening environment, escaping that environment and what it's like to come home again. Well scripted and brilliantly acted....
The film style won't be for everyone as it can be a bit confusing, but once the story grabs you, you want to know the outcome for Dito.....

Leatherheads
by K JWitty, cute and very entertaining.... Clooney and Zelweger make this film work. Minus a few slow spots this film could have been brilliant. The chemistry between Clooney and Zelweger far outweigh the football story... An enjoyable film well worth the viewing time.
Hey, you should really see this, even if you're not into football...

The Bourne Ultimatum
by K JMatt Damon is just perfect as Jason Bourne, and the Borne Ultimatum may well be the best of the series. Lots of action, a bit more back story and an excellent supporting cast. A thrill ride from beginning to end....

August Rush
by K JAugust Rush is an urban fairy tale filled with great acting and some soul touching moments. Not a film for everyone, but an enjoyable film which was well crafted. The storyline is interesting and there's eye candy for guys and gals.
Not a film I'd typically pick to see, but the music made me interested in viewing. I'm glad I watched this one. It's very touching....
