The Incredible Mr. Limpet - G Ever since I watched Andy Griffith Show re-runs when I was a little kid, Don Knotts has always held a special place in my heart. He's such a character! And this movie is no different. Sure it's a little hokey with a bookkeeper wanting to be a fish, but that's why it's so entertaining and cute. I have fond memories of this movie from when I was a kid and it still holds up. March 29, 2008

Disturbia - PG-13 While the last reveal was a little overboard, this movie was definitely a fun thriller that kept me interested. The main character does admittedly do some asinine things, but Shia pulls the character off convincingly enough. The look of the movie was also very detailed and really mimicked true suburbia. This movie has a little comedy, a slight love interest, and a huge dose of creepy that would keep any movie-goer entertained. March 26, 2008

Southland Tales - R I have a feeling that even if I watch this movie again, it'll still feel as jumbled and overwrought as the first time around. Really, it would've been a more interesting pic if most of the voice over would have been worked into the actual scenes. I really wasn't a fan of hearing Justin Timberlake droning on for most of the film about complicated things that I could've gathered from just watching the movie itself. The crazy number of characters and subplots really made this film choppy and hard to watch. I may see this movie a second time before writing it off as a failed Ode to David Lynch but I doubt it. Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies, so it's hard to be let down when my expectations for this Richard Kelly outing were so high. March 23, 2008

Cache (Hidden) - R This movie just left me in suspense even through the end! The stalking concept is creepy in itself because it's done in a believable way, but when the flashbacks start, that's when characters start flying off the handle. Curiosity won't kill anyone for seeing this one, but approach with caution because it is an off-the-beaten-path kind of film full of subtle nuance offset by some really intense moments. Akeelah and the Bee - PG The original commercials didn't do this one any justice. This movie is actually a really strongly acted and told story about a little girl believing in herself as much as everyone else does. March 17, 2008

In Bruges - R This movie is one of the few that I've genuinely enjoyed in 2008 so far! It's just filled with great conversations, complicated characters, and so much *actual* substance that I couldn't help caring about these down-and-out hit men. Ralph Fiennes in a riot when he finally makes the scene, and Colin Farrell had the best dark humored character in the whole movie! March 17, 2008

Yo-Yo Girl Cop (Sukeban Deka: Codename Asamiya Saki) - Unrated The story starts with a high-impact intro for their main character and then does slow a bit for the character-building. The action sequences are well-placed with some fun choreography. Two of my favorites were in a mall and in an old warehouse amidst a bunch of scaffolding. This movie's high-powered, fun, and as touching as an action movie can be without being fluff. March 13, 2008

West Bank Story - Unrated This short movie musical spoofy comedy is one of the best I've seen ever! The rivalry between two restaurants, the Palestinian Hummas Hut and the Jewish "Chosen" Restaurant, couldn't be more hysterical! Every visual and lyric set me up for record laughs. If you have not seen this yet and love comedies, then what are you waiting for?! March 11, 2008

Helvetica - Unrated This documentary doesn't border on the absurd but it definitely borders on the slightly off-beat. I definitely learned a lot about Helvetica that I didn't know before, and it was interesting to delve into typographers' and graphic designers' minds as far as what they think about when creating new fonts. The area shots are fab and some of the kooky personalities interviewed for the film are a treat. This doc does run a bit long at over an hour, bu if you're ready for a documentary about the history of a font, then forward ho! March 11, 2008
