Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno)
R
A dark, fantastic, and quite brutal movie. There is such a dark beauty to it. Always a sense of sadness...and hope. Very touching, very moving. Incredible to look at...and to "feel".
2.
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
R
This movie just makes me smile. Everything about it. It's warmth...it's humor...it's love...that gnome. :) But, it's Tautou that is the most amazing thing about the movie. It's in her face. You just can't help but feel a bit more alive and happy. It's wonderful and beautiful. I love it!
3.
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Unrated
Wonderful movie! Hepburn and Peppard are magnificent and work soooo well together. It's delightful, fun, quirky, sad, and romantic. Even the look of the film and the smaller, side characters are amazing. If you haven't seen it... you really should. Hell, I'm not big into romantic anything...but this is magical!
5.
The Color Purple
PG-13
I am moved by this movie every time I see it. Outstanding performances all around.

The Fall
by OliverThis is not juts viscerally substatial though another adult fairytale to join the ranks of Big Fish and Pan's Labirynth. A suffering invalid stuntman relates a fairytale to a young girl recuperating from a fall. Seeing her enraptured by the tale, the stuntman continues the telling which grows increasingly twisted under the influence of morphine which he is happy to receive in lethal quantities, Parts of the movie verge on clever (such as the manner of prying the locket's secret) and the strange integration of true to life facts into the fantasy world involving a masked bandit's revenge against Goveneror Odious.

Tropic Thunder
by brandonAbsolutley HILARIOUS. I think I almost wet my pants. THis stellar cast did not bog down this movie (Who is stealing who's thunder) everyone had their place. I loved it. Stiller plays a nearly washed up actor looking to make a huge blockbuster, along with some other in danger actors. Jack Black plays an almost Eddie Murphy type of character (you know the slap stick actor playing Klump type roles.) and Downy Junior plays AUstiralian actor looking for new recognition. Downy plays an actor whos undergone major cosmetic surgery to play a black man, in one scene he is acting as a chinese man, still with a southern afro american drawl, speaking chinese. Tom Cruise is great also. See this, one of the funniest movies in ages!

Citizen Ruth
by brandonAs far as I am concerned this is Laura Derns best acting performance. I find Laura can a little hammy sometimes in the acting departmen, but here she acts has taken a different pace. Shes not this cultured caring lady, Laura plays Ruth , a drug addicted woman who had become pregnant. When she is arrested for doing drugs she is told by the judge that if she aborts the baby he will drop charges placed against her. The christian church gets involved and a war ensues between Prolife and prochoice groups. Laura holds the balance of power as a symbol that can shift authority for either group. Hilarious. Most memorable line by Ruth (Dern) "Suck the sh** out of my A**! you Fu****!" and even more hilarious is Kurtwood Smith (Red Foreman, that 70's show) portraying a bible thuimper, singing cheezy little hymns and working at a hardware store.
One of my favorite movies. Check it out.

Get Smart
by brandonA solid movie in the tradition of "The Pink Panther" and "Pure Luck" Steve Carell is a very good actor, with a large range, unlike other comedic actors (like Jim Carey) Carell can do dramatic parts. This movie is slap stick, but great. He plays a novice government agent/spy who is truly and idiot. Carell, and Hathaway work well together.Entertaining, and funny. If you like "the pink panther" Any of the "Austin Powers" movies, or "Pure Luck" (Danny Glover and Martin Short) you'll like this movie.

Mirrors
by brandonI was impressed by this film, Sutherland gives a noteworthy performance as a confused (as I am sure most people would be) security gaurd experiencing strange things in an old, near condemned , burned out department store, (why hire a security gaurds to monitor something that most people wouldn't ever set foot into, with virtually nothing of value to take?) This movie was creepy in its way, and even when one thinks the denument has occured something else happens. Visually stunning, scary in its way, and a decent plot line, this movie is definately worth a watch. My only pet peeve were a few loose ends, and I don't want to give it all away. Watch it at night ;-P

Hamlet 2
by brandonFunny, one can ttell by the musical numbers that this is indeed an Andrew Fleming Film (see South Park ("Uncle F*****" and "Chocolate Salty Balls") This had similar Numbers "Rock Me Sexy, Jesus" and "Rape me in the Face". This film was a mixure of slapstick, avante garde humour, and crazy outlandish, vulgar (though strangley tastefully done, if thats possible) The sense of humour is very much in the vain of south park. A funny, and enjoyable movie, worth a watch.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
by brandonBrendan Fraser is a passable actor. The story line to this flick is very generic. Hero's must stop some object from getting to a certain place, or hell will rise, and the world will be damned as we know it. Ok, saw it in Indiana Jones, and Lord of the rings, The chronicles of Narnia. To make things worse like in all sequels there is annoying references, and threads to tie this movie to all the rest watch it and listen for "I hate mummy's" They changed the female lead, to a lesser actress (I hate it when they do that[see Red dragon, Julianne Moore instead of Jodie Foster]) Whats worse it contains all the ingredients in typical chinese epic story lines(forbidden love, betrayal, magic, revenge, sacrifices that are for true love and royalty) fused with James Bond type characters, and Indiana Jones style fight scenes.Whats annoying is Brendan knows exactly what needs to be done to save the day, without knowing why. How does he know these things. He and his wife are experts in all fighting styles, apparently better at karate/kung fu than the chinese?. I found the chinese lady general annoying, she was the equivalent to james bonds Irma Blunt or Frau Farbissina. deadly, determined and manly. The other general, worm like character has equivalents in all other mummy movies. Elaborate fight scenes, an already been done plot, and room for maybe a few more half hearted sequels. Best thing about this film: The yeti's. Yes people the abominable snow men. I watched the thing and thought "why does Brendan frasers son look as old as he does?"
Watch it and you decide, maybe we can see how our opinions compare and contrast.

Ultraviolet
by brandonThis is quite possibly the worst high budget movie ever. There is little character depth, and to make up for a poor shallow plot the makers of the movies made long elaborate fight scenes. Seemed as though they were trying to conjur up the kill bill memories. The only difference was Kill Bill had a mortal, human character who could die. Violet is a vampire who kills what appear to be thousands of well trained gaurds. Set in the future, it was unclear what the lead character was, a super human phenom? a genetically constructed being? an experiment by the miliary? a robot?.. No she is a vampire. I didn't know that for 30-45 minutes. In such a futuristic society why are the military, and the governing police force still using kitana like swords? I'll tell you why to cash in on the Japanese fighting craze which took place the year this film was released. This movie also featured that annoying kid who sits there with this blank look on face, you know he acts as the kid with a blank look on his face in all the movies... This movie is just a gong show.
see if you concur.

Shutter
by brandonDecent enough, I think at this point the creepy dead japanese woman/or dead girl with greasy black hair coming back for revenge themed horror flicks should be laid to rest. This film was decent enough, but, it can easily be compared to the Grudges 1 & 2, I know what you did last summer, Stir of Echoes, and many other films.
Maybe you should decide if this is worth your time...not bad, not great either.
