La Vie en Rose (La Mome)
PG-13
BOO-HOO! I drank a lot and did a lot of needles and I was famous so that gives me the right to be a bitch. Here's an idea, let's do a biography that starts from the beginning of the subject's life and ends at the end. And, look. I like Amelie as much as the next guy, but does that mean every film out of France has to look like it. I was waiting for this bitch to keel over in the middle of the movie. Yeah, Marion Cotlillard gives a good performance, but I'm still trying to figure out if that's just because she looks like her.
Little Murders

When my friends recommended this movie to me, I expected something a little different than what I got. Not that I was disappointed at all, this movie is probably one of the more original films I have seen in a long time. I loved the monologues and enjoyed the performances (Elliot Gould is amazing and it's a damn shame that some only know him as Monica's dad from Friends). The climax is a little out there, but I didn't mind it because I thought it fit with the rest of the film. The only problem I had was the performance of Alan Arkin who I thought was just annoying. Overall, very enjoyable and nice to see something out of the ordinary.
Choke
R
Sam Rockwell, Kelly Macdonald, and Anjelica Houston give it their all, but the movie falls flat. There are some really funny bits and there are some really shitty bits, but at the end of the day it seems like the whole movie is just a bunch of bits slapped together (the editing in this movie is shit). It was shot like a TV movie. I am just sick and tired of independent films being called good because there is provocative shit like a sex addict in them. It's like if they took Fight Club and made it cheesy romantic comedy with anal bead jokes.
Stardust
PG-13
This movie is a lot of fun and although he plays way against type, Robert DeNiro gives one of his most energetic performances in the past few years. It was nice to see the guy sorta acting. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward fantasy (lot of tips of the hat to Princess Bride) and also features the ultimate MILF, Michelle Pfeeiffer (and Claire Danes is still hot to me, too). Ricky Gervais makes a great cameo as well and I thought it was really funny at certain points.
Blindness

I read the book so I am kind of biased towards it. It's really a great book and its one of those that is very hard to adapt especially with tone and the heavy subject matter. This movie is one of those that if they didn't cut out some stuff it would be three hours and the most depressing movie of all time (this would be the version I want to see). The movie was good with some good performances from Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo, but I didn't connect with any of the characters and thought they rushed through some things. I will say it was well made and some shots are fucking gorgeous.
A Face in the Crowd
Unrated
This ain't your grandparent's Matlock. Andy Griffith is amazing as the towering, sometimes over the top Lonesome Rhodes. What I liked best about the film was it seems to be waaaaay ahead of it's time as far as seeing the power of television, media, and fame. Although the ending left me wanting more, it still was very powerful. And, besides, a young Matthau, very young and beautiful Remick, and Patricia Neal (damn, she's two for two) keep it interesting. I love how Kazan frames his shots and he guides the film through a couple of bumpy parts.

My favorite movie of all time. DeNiro puts on a clinic and Scorsese is at the top of his game. Flawless!
2.
Five Easy Pieces
R
The greatest ending of all time and Nicholson is genius! Raffelson is an unsung hero.
3.
A Woman Under the Influence

Gena Rowlands gives one of the greatest performances of all time. This is my favorite Cassavettes' film.

Righteous Kill
by RickJust about the worst film ever made. It's the equivalent of sitting through an entire Uwe Boll marathon. Sure I'm being overly hyperbolic, but it's pretty fucking bad, man. It's your typical, generic, cliche ridden buddy cop flick. De Niro and Pacino are both mind bogglingly awful. Yep, you heard it here first. De Niro plays the same taciturn, redundant mumbler he's been playing the last 13 years or so and Pacino is ...... Pacino. He's the olivier of contemporary times. Dude hams it uppppp. The script is so laughably bad. The score is achingly generic. The editing is insufferably scattered. Also, 50 CENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no faith left in these two. Unless De Niro does another Scorsese flick, consider me uninterested. You owe it to yourself not to see this.
Do yourself a favor, watch Raging Bull or Dog Day Afternoon again.

The original Funny Games is great. The whole fourth wall works a whole lot better in that film I bet. I haven't seen the new one yet, but I just know that it can not be a great as his original vision.

The Best Man
by codyGreat political film that really translates into politics today. Its about 2 men running for the president, Fonda is a rich intellectual who uses reason to get ahead. Robertson is a brute who uses fear and threats to get ahead. It's pretty much Bush vs Kerry. The acting is great and Gore Vidal's script is flawless and Wexler's cinematography is stunning as usual.
This comes on TCM Thursday at 12AM est 11PM central.
