A Nightmare on Elm Street

I read the script - here's hoping they make it work. I think this movie has enormous potential for success if people are willing to give it a chance and not judge the story based on the trailer alone. Remember with NOES films, nothing is ever as obvious as it seems.

PG-13
Excellent visual effects no doubt but I honestly felt very conflicted about the all too recognizable cookie cutter story that seems like patchwork of all Cameron's previous films with a redundancy that goes on longer than it should. I give it high marks for creative mastery in the field of visual effects (love the luminescent forest) but beyond that, lots of eye candy with little substance. The 3D effects are by far the best ever attempted and Cameron's technical mastery with WETA/Digital Domain shows through but will it change the way films are made? Perhaps technically, but how stories are told? Not a chance.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl
PG-13
Easily the most solid action packed, well balanced piece of Pirate based storytelling ever captured on film. This is the best of the trilogy.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
PG
Best Star Wars film ever...and not just because Lucas didn't direct it.
