Cruel Intentions

Lovely, lovely, LOVELY --- I don't know how to finish that. Loved the concept. Loved the soundtrack. Ryan Phillippe gave a phenomenal performance, in my opinion.

Into the Wild
R
I can't help but to have personal feelings towards this film. I got through the book in less than a week and even before I read it I had strong feelings towards the story and Chris. To much of my surprise, I did watch it and I did very much love it. I can't really tell you if it's because of the quality of the film or blind allegiance to a story I deeply love. Penn did do a magnificent job. Emile Hirsch, in my opinion was great. Vaughn was perfect in the role of Wayne Westerberg, Stewart was great in the role of Tracy, and honestly, all of the rest of the cast was extremely well put in place. I find myself now highly avoiding reviews and other's opinions on the film, book, and McCandless himself. I evidentally take a great amount of offence to someones opinion that is not of my own, this is a rare thing on my account. In the film, there is no end to explaining just how amazingly beautiful the scenery is. The cinematography was one of my favorites of all time. I bought the soundtrack before I had even seen the film (keep in mind that I did listen to some of which on the official website) and I was not surprised that it is absolutely brilliant and beautiful. To conclude my achingly long and opinionated review of Into The Wild, I just want to say that I am not dissapointed at all of this film. Simply amazing.

Velvet Goldmine

This was... amazing. Absolutely brilliant. The music, the makeup, the actors, all of which were perfect. There isn't alot I can say for this one other than it's fantastic. (And sooo true).

Garden State

I loved this film. Definitely one of my favorites. Loved the script, soundtrack, concept, actors, and acting. Wonderfully done.

The Rules of Attraction
R
Amazing. I watch this film over and over again and I'm telling you now, I will never get sick or bored of it. Completely entertaining, exciting, hilarious, and achingly beautiful. Casting is perfect, acting is heart-breakingly honest and believable, soundtrack is brilliant, and for how simple the cinematography is in this, I still really oddly love it. Absolutely brilliant.

Son of Rambow
by QuintoThe film has a few weak spots, but overall it's a fantastic film about friendship with amazing performances by it's two young lead boys; it's impossible not to have fun watching them together.
Hey, you should really see this!

Quantum of Solace
by QuintoEven without comparing it to Casino Royale (as hard as it may be), the films is still as unsatisfying. Not only is the cool, suave Bond gone, instead we get a merciless murderer. Also, it seems as if all the energy and effor went into the action sequences (I think so, I couldn't really tell because of the awful, sickening editing) and they just settled for the most boring of all plots.
I know people will goo see it doesn't matter what anyone says about it, but just be sure to know what you're in for.

The Strangers
by QuintoI got scared during a few scenes, but I was never really afraid. Liv Tyler gives an amazing performance, but I was never invested in the lead characters. The "strangers" themselves terrorize a whole lot, but it quickly becomes annoying. Then, there's Glenn Howerton for 2 minutes, which ruined the mood for me because I'm too used to his character in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Oh, yeah, everything is also kinda very boring.
I don't know, I guess if you're a very, very big fan of Liv Tyler you can check her out in another good movie.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year
by QuintoOkay, so the screenwriters are completely careless and forgetful of their storylines and characters, Troy and Gabriella are the most annoying characters ever to be put on film and her voice is excrutiatingly painful, yet the big but to all this is that it's actually a fun, well-coreographed, catchy, harmless, not-as-boring-as-the-previous-two-movies musical made worthwhile because of some big dance numbers (I Want It All and A Night to Remember definite highlights), a Footloose homage and Sharpay and her gay lover/brother Ryan, both of whom deserve spin-offs of their own.
Come on, I know there's a bunch of you who won't admit wanting to see this, but do it.

Bajo la sal
by QuintoThe film is technically competent, but it's also so spectacularly boring, mainly due to its complete lack of direction with the story, that I felt physically ill. The stop-motion sequences were fantastic, but not worth it.
Those of you that know about this film, avoid it.

[Rec]
by QuintoThe most difficult movie experience I've had in my life, never again am I watching movies alone. I cried and screamed like crazy and the entire thing just kept making me feel very, very bad. One of the best horror films I've seen and Manuela Velasco is, like, the most beautiful person in the world, which made it even harder to watch.
FUCK QUARANTINE!

The Life Before Her Eyes
by QuintoThe Uma Thurman scenes are completely pointless because they fail to explore any human emotion her character might have and as for Evan Rachel Wood, whenever it starts leading towards something remotely interesting, the film takes a u-turn and leaves us feeling empty and unsatisfied.
An enormous disappointment, though at least you get to look at Thurman and Wood.

Dog Days (Hundstage)
by QuintoIt's a very thin line between wanting to turn this movie off and laughing histerically-- I fall under the latter category, which I'm not sure how exactly it makes me feel. The characters are strange and annoying (I wanted to kick that hitchhiker in the face), yet completely fascinating.
I don't know exactly why you should see this, but I only know that you should.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (4 luni, 3 saptamini si 2 zile)
by QuintoThis film kept me speechless the entire time because I was expecting something overly dramatic and instead of that it's just very serious and realistic, which made everything more shocking. The performances are exceptional and it never once tries to hand out an agenda on such a politicised subject, it just portrays the characters as real persons on a difficult situation.
Hey, you should really see this!

Elisa Antes del Fin del Mundo (Elisa Before the End of the World)
by QuintoYay! I had been waiting for Flixster to list this film since I joined! It was a childhood favorite of mine and a highly engrossing story with suprisingly good performances by child actors (something rare in México) and very relatable (if you were as paranoid as me as a kid).
This film is incredibly worth everyone's time!

Stuck
by QuintoUnderrated actors Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea do really great jobs in this film and Stuart Gordon still knows how to treat the bizarre with a little touch of hilarity.
Not gonna blow any brains out, but it's a fun watch.

Definitely, Maybe
by QuintoThree wonderful performances by the lovely ladies can't save an otherwise dull, convoluted and constantly dependable on coincidences story that never engages the viewer. I could write about how wasted both Elizabeth Banks and Rachel Weisz are, but their characters are completely forgettable, which leaves only for Isla Fisher to wish she had chosen a better project.
Definitely do not see this piece of crap.

La Zona
by QuintoWow! That "Skimo" guy has more talent in him than I had given him credit before and does a great job as one of the few likeable characters. This film was a little depressing because even though some people claim to be a little too exaggerated, I thought it was still reaslitically portrayed, which was kinda depressing.

Less Than Zero
by QuintoThis film made me terrified of drugs because apparently, if you snort anything, you'll become a badly-written, dull, boring, uninteresting character with no depth and a poor adaptation of a book.
Definitely one of the worst adaptations of a book ever. The guy who did Rules of Attraction should remake it.

Mirrors
by QuintoThis feels like six different films put together (drama, cheap thriller, horror, video-game, action, Shyamalan), which makes some moments entertaining as stand-alone scenes, but overall it's just a big mess. There is the really cool death scene that everyone knows, which is almost worth the entire movie, but the rest is too stupid to care for anything.

Cheung Gong 7 hou (CJ7) (Long River 7)
by QuintoIt doesn't add up to much by the end, but it's still a funny film, entertaining and has the cutest creature ever to be put on film.
This should make a nice film for kids to enjoy and it's better than taking them to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

All the Real Girls

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
by QuintoHoly shit! Somebody should turn the puppet show into a feature film. Jason Segel is pathetically loveable, I almost expected him to start singing "Lady L" at any given moment; the rest of the cast is well used and equally hilarious. I was surprised at how well constructed the story actually is and how you get to see different sides to everyone.
Definitely one of the better-constructed Apatow-related productions. And who knew Nick Andopolis would be such a good scripwriter?

Speed Racer
by QuintoTake a drink whenever someone or something slides across the screen changing the image in the background.
Seriously, this film is more of an anime than the cartoon ever was. Emile Hirsch was a very lousy Speed Racer, but everything else was so much fun. With its recent release on DVD, people should definitely give this film a try. It's not perfect, but it is one of the trippiest films out there and it doesn't deserve the critics hate.
