Chungking Express
PG-13
A wong kar wai movie isn't just a movie it is an experience. I don't do drugs but I imagine this s what it would be like. It's a surreal, euphoric visceral journey where every frame is a work of art. You realy feel the rush and claustrophobia of living in the chunking mansions. It was this and Hard boiled that showed me what a master of subdued acting Tony Leung was, no could convey so much emotion with no dialogue and also hide emotions from other characters but still convey them to the audience.
The Crow
R
It's difficult to put into words why I love this film. It's a violent visual poem. An expression of black & white opposites; love and hate, death & Rebirth loss of a loved one and the building of a friendship, good & evil, pain & Hope. Before Se7en it was the Crow that really created a character of it's surroundings with it's constant rain and colourless streets. Yes part of the ambiance of the movie comes from knowing of the tragic death of Brandon Lee but it still deserves to be credited for it's own merits. We see how powerful love can be as it brings back a man from the dead and with the violence we feel the cathartic release of our own anger at the injustices of the world. It's a movie that you feel rather than engage in discourse.
