American Beauty is my all time favourite movie. It is because it is really good at making you look at things from another perspective.
Kevin Spacey delivered an awesome performance of Lester Burnham, a father and employee trapped by his wife and job. The way his character evolved over the duration of the film is spectacular, funny, and thought-provoking. Over the time of a year he transforms from a depressive, broken man to an energetic, happy father, initially in a quest to have a chance of having sex with his daughter's friend.
During that period of a year, other life-changing things happen to his daughter and wife. This all leads to a complex knot of characters at the end of the film, where Lester finds his death.
A brilliant movie. I've watched it tens of times, and it keeps leaving a strong impression on me. If you didn't like it, look closer...

I had heard about this movie a lot of times, but I never really got around to watching it. I'm not a fan of Tim Burton, although he did make some good movies. Now that I've finalyl seen this movie, I find it a shame I've only discovered this gem recently.

Because truly, this movie is a masterpiece! Tim Burton has created a very interesting universe in which towns represent holidays. The story takes place in Halloween Town, where Jack Skellington is the master architect of each year's halloween. In spite of delivering very good work, Jack is unhappy and aspires to something more. By accident he discovers one of the other towns: Christmas Town, where he is inspired for the next year's Halloween.

It is a very entertaining story, beatifully crafted in clay and guided by music and songs. As far as I know, this production is unique - unless you can point me to another original fairy-tale musical in clay..?

It goes without saying that I have awarded this movie 5/5 stars. I really can't see what would have made it better. This movie offers an intersting plot, a funny setting, hilarious characters and great songs.
