The moment the tickets for IMAX were available, I jumped to purchase two and then took a day off since it's an almost 3 hour movie and the drive would be 45 minutes to an hour.
IT. WAS. WORTH. IT.
BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER. I even enjoyed this more than The Dark Knight! Brilliant adaptation. Lots of mixed reviews from fans and non-fans but I find it amazing. The cast was great, especially Jackie Earle Haley. I LOVED LOVED LOVED how they pulled off Dr. Manhattan's story. Just about perfect.
I can't believe some people didn't like this movie. I think it is AMAZING. Visually terrific, an unexpected GREAT cast, nice music by Underworld, and the story.... I didn't find anything wrong with it! It was suspenseful, scary, tragic. Chris Klein is always a joy, as is Michelle Yeoh. I would watch this again.
My initial reaction was that it was a decent movie, but had its weaknesses. The more I think about it, the more I like it, though. This was similar to my feelings on There Will Be Blood where I didn't walk out of the theater loving the movie, but became more appreciative of it later.
I feel that Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, despite already playing a couple in Babel, don't really have chemistry, but are great actors enough to work well together.
I didn't like the hurricane Katrina tie-in, but I think the idea of it being compared to the clock was pretty neat. I also felt that they spent a lot of time focused on "regular" Brad Pitt age and then sped through his younger years, although that was how it was in the book, but the ending wasn't much of an impact (the book's ending was much more depressing).
The first 45 minutes were great. Tilda Swinton's short appearance was great. I didn't even know she was in it. Maybe not necessarily worth seeing in theaters unless you can't wait.
I had a kickass time watching this. I wasn't so confident in the beginning, but Izeya's role in this film was impressive and won me over. I also love the costume and set design. I don't know why they went for English, I think it would've been fine in Japanese.
It's like watching two movies at once! There's enough action to make it feel like it's shorter than the 2.5 hours you'll spend in the theater. Also, all that hype about Heath Ledger is well deserved. He pulls off an amazing Joker! Great performances all around, although Batman's low gutteral speaking voice still irks me.
BIAS: I am a HUGE Joy Division fan. I like Anton Corbijn's work, too. Visually, it's perfect. I love the black/white, I think it really works. The shots are artistically done. It's almost like watching a really long but great music video. The song selection is great. Some might complain about the script/dialogue, but I LOVED the minimalist feel to it. Sam Riley is so great. The woman who played Annik is so hot!
Aside from the wonderful shots and cinematography, I was surprised to see how much I can relate to the characters. I loved the ship captain and I love all the clever little scenes.

The Dark Knight at #1? Tsk, tsk, I expected better than that.
