Burn After Reading - R It's a fun, black comedy by the Coens. Not their best, not their favorite, but I'm glad they finally got Brad Pitt. I think he's hilarious in this. The rest of the cast is on point, as usual. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in a Coens movie, right? February 6, 2009

Snow Angels - R It's another well made indie suburb drama. How many of these are there? Sam Rockwell is great in this. I didn't make it through David Gordon Green's George Washington so I guess this is the first of his movies I've seen. It's pretty good. February 6, 2009

Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) - R February 6, 2009

The Wendell Baker Story - PG-13 Luke and Andrew may try their hand at behind the scenes movie making, but luckily they have Owen Wilson as the decent writer of the three. Hey, at least they tried. Poorly, but they can do whatever they want. Anyway, avoid this unless you're in it for the Wilson eye candy. February 1, 2009

The Minus Man - R Maybe I'm too used to Owen Wilson as a comedic actor to like him in this film. Overall, I just thought this movie was dull. February 1, 2009

White Oleander - PG-13 This movie almost crossed the line from decent melodrama to typical overdramatic cornball after school special, but I empathized it enough to think it was very good. The acting may seem hokey but I thought it was very well done. February 1, 2009

Cars - G Worst Pixar film ever. What is it with this movie? They depicted some of the worst things that could happen while racing (car crashes) and late night driving (falling asleep at the wheel) and put them in a lighthearted moment? I'm getting tired of Pixar's lame formulas. They better diversify with their plot structures because it looks like other animation studios are starting to become decent competitors. The Haunting - PG-13 Bizarre casting with a silly non-scary plot. You can watch this in an abandoned building and still not be the least bit spooked. If anything, this movie will make you less scared of anything. Awful movie. The special effects are dated and Disney-esque. February 1, 2009

Man on Wire - PG-13 Very entertaining, well directed and edited story of a man who's dream was to walk across a tightrope wire between the twin towers. It's very inspiring, about discovering your goals and dreams and working hard throughout your life to achieve it. If there's something that stayed with me, it was the personal relationship between the main character and his then girlfriend. It's very bittersweet. I liked this doc a lot. February 1, 2009

Shanghai Knights - PG-13 Fun movie made even better with the addition of Donnie Yen, an old school fave with surprisingly very good English! Karen Mok was also pretty impressive but I wasn't too happy about the inclusion of Fann Wong (although her fighting scenes were decent). Jackie Chan always delivers with the stunts. The Big Bounce - PG-13 In my quest to watch every single Owen Wilson film, I had to watch this even though I was warned it was going to be crappy. It's not that this film didn't have potential. First, it had a decent cast and story. The problem was execution and the feeling that everyone was just in it for the paid Hawaii vacation. Overall, it's one of Owen's worst but not worse (from very loose standards) than The Haunting. January 25, 2009

Paprika - R The story was along the lines of Perfect Blue but what was huge for me was how visually impressive this animation is. I may be biased, but I think Japan is one reason why 2D animation will never succumb to the fervor of Pixar and other CGI films (which tend to pander to PG PG13 audiences anyway). January 25, 2009

Inside the Circle - Unrated Another example of a movie you have to endure after a somewhat weak 30 minute start (weak compared to Planet B-boy). First impressions are sometimes misleading and as you stick with this story following 3 bboys (1 promoter), you get drawn into the story, especially the rivalry. I consider this something that other b-boys and fans would enjoy. January 25, 2009

Brand Upon the Brain! - Unrated I have to admit, I loved this film because of the style. It reminded me of how my boyfriend makes films. January 17, 2009

Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise) - Unrated This movie was supposed to be great but I didn't really feel any connection from the characters, particularly the love story. A huge disappointment for me. January 17, 2009

La Pointe Courte - Unrated Reminded me of Breathless. I like the way it was shot. Not much else but a nice debut by Varda. January 17, 2009

Lacombe Lucien - R The only thing that I cared about this film was that it's really easy to kill rabbits and chickens with your bare hands. I guess I already knew that about chickens, but not rabbits. I really didn't find the story interesting and was bored to death. January 17, 2009

Around the World in 80 Days - PG I wish I hadn't waited so long to see this movie. First, I want to say that I am so glad there were so many HK actors in this film! I got excited seeing Sammo Hung, Daniel Wu, Karen Mok, and apparantly Ken Lo is also in this movie?! Oh, and there is a bench fighting scene that I almost shed a tear for, since I love watching it! Steve Coogan was hilarious and all the actors and cameos were great! I had so much fun watching this movie. Loved it. January 15, 2009

eXistenZ - R Maybe one of Cronenberg's best? The ending was what really got me. I feel like I want to watch it a few more times and hopefully pick up some things I may have missed before. I like the story a lot. January 15, 2009

A Mighty Heart - R This is my second least favorite from Michael Winterbottom but it's not a bad movie. I was fine with Jolie until a crucial scene where all of a sudden I just felt empty and unemotional during a very emotional scene (when she finds out Daniel was dead). I also don't know about the decision to recreate scenes from the video (they didn't show the beheading). I love the Nouvelle Vague song at the end. January 15, 2009

I Spy - PG-13 Haha, what a funny movie. Owen Wilson was good and had some funny scenes, but Eddie Murphy was the one that made me LOL for real. I'm going to watch every stupid Eddie Murphy movie after I finish with Owen's filmography. Also, what a silly turn by Gary Cole! Famke Janssen and Owen Wilson make a terrible combo. Fun, great movie by Betty Thomas. January 15, 2009

The Steel Helmet - Unrated The first Samuel Fuller film for me. A decent war movie that culminates with an awesome shootout in the end. I think this movie does have some prryhic elements to it, but not as obvious as something like Seven Samurai. It's interesting that the little Korean boy in this film is referred to as "Short Round", something I always connected to Indiana Jones. The scene at the temple reminded me of the last battle in Saving Private Ryan. January 10, 2009

Starsky & Hutch - PG-13 A very fun and entertaining movie! My bias right now is that I have a huge crush on Owen Wilson and am working to see every movie he is in. That being said, Wilson looked GREAT in it and he was very funny like he always is. Snoop Dogg was also perfectly cast (nice little trivia: the director was looking for a certain '70s car that Snoop actually owned and used in the movie). Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller were all equally great. January 10, 2009

Blonde Ambition - PG-13 Poor Luke Wilson. Why oh WHY would he star in this dreck? First, Jessica Simpson should NEVER do movies EVER EVER AGAIN. She was unbearable in this movie and I think most of my animosity is due to her, not the story. Also, the Aquafresh product placing was so ridiculously blatant. Annoyed the hell out of me. I don't know why I subjected myself to this torture. January 10, 2009
