| nbt: Never Been Thawed - Unrated |
Most people would not make it past the first 15 minutes. This movie is very low budget with mediocre acting skills. It's also the type of movie that if you stick it out, you forgive it's faults and (I hate to say it) your standards are lowered and you REALLY have fun with the movie. The main character of this film is also a graphic designer. A lot of his work is noticeable in the movie. The gags are very easy but I got a good laugh every now and then. It needs polishing but it's a great effort. |

| My Father the Genius - G | Pretty much on the boring side. I wonder if the director managed to get out of debt after making this movie (she said she was living on her credit cards as a result of creating this film). | January 9, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Stand and Deliver - PG | The story of Jaime Escalante is very fascinating and one of the reasons I wanted to see this movie. I wish I had seen it back then because now I just can't get over how dated it is. I had more fun reading Escalante's wikipedia entry. | January 9, 2009 | N/A | |||
| 4 Luni, 3 Saptamâni si 2 Zile (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) - R |
The poster was misled me into thinking the blonde girl was the one who was pregnant. I thought the movie was nicely paced but some may feel that it progresses slowly and it does tend to linger on certain scenes (notably one, the dinner scene) but I feel like it was an effective move. I don't like giving away certain important scenes and tidbits about the movie but I will say that there are things I would NOT do for a friend who made a stupid mistake. |

| Muppets From Space - G | I don't know why I randomly decided to watch this, I was bored and I thought it would be fun. I didn't know what it was about so I wasn't overly excited when I found out it was centered around Gonzo, who is one of my least favorite Muppets. I think I could watch all the Muppets movies again just for Animal. He rocks my world. | January 9, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Wristcutters - A Love Story - R | I like Patrick Fugit and Shannyn Sossaman, but I feel like they don't really have much chemistry together. They were still very good in this movie. The story was entertaining, movie was well directed and nicely casted. | January 9, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Brothers of the Head - R | Very interesting idea but sort of a letdown? I'm not sure what it was... maybe I was freaked out by the real life twins really making out in the movie? The execution, direction, and acting in the film were good, I just had higher hopes for it. | January 3, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Bigger, Stronger, Faster* - PG-13 | A very interesting, engaging movie about steroids revolving around the director Chris Bell and his brothers (one who recently passed away December 2008). Very well made and lots of information and history on steroids and the media. The director does a great job of exposing both sides of steroids, leaving it up to the viewer to decide whether this doc is pro or anti roids. | January 3, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Small Town Gay Bar - Unrated | Decent documentary on the existance of gay bars located in conservative, closed minded small towns. I loved the use of lots of songs by The Hidden Cameras (the lead singer, Joel, is openly gay). | January 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Naissance des Pieuvres (Water Lilies) - Unrated |
It's a very simple concept done simply and tastefully. I'm always into these types of stories, not specially involving adolescents but it makes sense at this age (experimentation I feel occurs around college ages). A good display of sex and love in young women entering womanhood. I'm somewhat startled that these scenes did involve girls under 18. |

| Them (Ils) - R |
As a fan of the 2008 film, The Strangers, I was really glad to have come across this film (free on Netflix's Watch Instantly feature). Similar to The Strangers, this film is about a home invasion, which I consider one of the scariest crimes ever (mostly because home invasion is the root of the murders I find terrifying in history, ie Speck). Knowing this, you can bet I was scared when I saw The Strangers and I sure was hella scared when I watched this movie. Try watching it alone in the dark with the sound turned up. |

| Otaku Unite! - Unrated | As someone who was somewhat of an otaku at some point (I really miss those days, I haven't been engrossed in an anime series in such a long time), I really enjoyed watching this movie. I've been to about 2 anime conventions in my life and I had such a great time. The vibe was good, there were lots of things to do, and it's just really fun in general. Yes, you have to get over some types of "nerds" but it's all in fun. The film does a good job of detailing the history of anime and it's rise in popularity in the US as well as the history of anime conventions. Ha, Trish Ledoux wasn't what I expected her to look like. I'm glad she made an appearance in this film. | January 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Exorcism of Emily Rose - PG-13 |
I laughed heartily when Jennifer Carpenter appeared on screen because I forgot she was in this movie. I'm a fan of Dexter (but I haven't seen the latest season!) and I thought she was such an annoying character but good for comic relief. Anyway, this movie wasn't bad, I liked that it was based on a true story and had decent actors in it (Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson). Not a bad choice if it's on demand. |

| The House Bunny - PG-13 |
As a fan of Anna Faris AND The Girls Next Door (my youngest sister is a huge Playboy fan), I actually wanted to see this in theaters. The movie was featured in an episode of GND and the movie wasn't anything special, but I was still anticipating it. I think where this movie suffered most was the writing. It's a typical makeover movie, but it was just so bland. I normally don't hate Happy Madison pictures, I'm very lenient on their brand of humor so even by those standards, this movie just failed me. NOT worth a rental. I hope Anna Faris gets better roles that highlights her comedic abilities. |

| Sex and Lucia (Lucía y el sexo) - R | Interesting story and VERY sexual movie. I liked that a lot of these actors were also in Almadovar's "Talk to Her." Well acted, good pacing, and some nice artistic scenes. | December 31, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - PG-13 |
My initial reaction was that it was a decent movie, but had its weaknesses. The more I think about it, the more I like it, though. This was similar to my feelings on There Will Be Blood where I didn't walk out of the theater loving the movie, but became more appreciative of it later. I feel that Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, despite already playing a couple in Babel, don't really have chemistry, but are great actors enough to work well together. I didn't like the hurricane Katrina tie-in, but I think the idea of it being compared to the clock was pretty neat. I also felt that they spent a lot of time focused on "regular" Brad Pitt age and then sped through his younger years, although that was how it was in the book, but the ending wasn't much of an impact (the book's ending was much more depressing). The first 45 minutes were great. Tilda Swinton's short appearance was great. I didn't even know she was in it. Maybe not necessarily worth seeing in theaters unless you can't wait. |

| Planet B-Boy - Unrated | Battle of the Year! I used to watch this on VHS and clips on the internet back in college. I like the focus on Korea's breakout b-boys but it's not surprising when the director is Korean. Must watch for bboy fans. | December 31, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Drillbit Taylor - PG-13 | This was a fun movie to watch. I think the fat kid was very annoying but he didn't ruin the movie for me. I laughed at the rap battle because it was totally stupid. | December 31, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Le Battement d'Ailes du Papillon (Happenstance) (The Beating of the Butterfly's Wings) - R | One of those "intersecting stories" kind of movies. The cover is hilarious because Tautou had just attained popularity after Ameiie, but she has equal amounts of screen time as the rest of the cast. It's a fun watch. | December 27, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Pixar Story - Unrated | Very enjoyable and informative documentary on the history of Pixar! John Lasseter and Steve Jobs are geniuses. | December 27, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Hors de Prix (Priceless) - PG-13 | My god, Audrey Tautou is SO so beautiful! Her male costar also had beautiful eyes and they did well on screen together. The story is fun and enjoyable but with a predictable ending. Worth a rental. | December 27, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - Unrated | The rating is for the acting and writing. Paul Newman, Taylor, and Burl Ives were fantastic. The dialogue is so good and entertaining. However, I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if it focused on Brick's homosexuality rather than his relationship with his wife and father. | December 27, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Le Doulos - Unrated | I really liked Belmondo in this film. The movie didn't do much for me until the very end. | December 27, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Planes, Trains and Automobiles - R | Pretty fun movie. | December 27, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Soylent Green - PG | I made it through this movie just to hear Heston utter that famous line. Otherwise, I really couldn't get into it. It's funny seeing "the future" from the perspective of 1973. | December 21, 2008 | N/A |
