Mishima - A Life in Four Chapters - R Criterion just released this as part of their collection and it's colorful, vibrant cover was worth buying it without ever having seen the movie.

I have not read any of Mishima's work, but this movie is famous for not only being well done, but for it's Philip Glass score.

The movie is set in 4 chapters. Each of the chapters contains staged scenes from Mishima's work. Some were OK, some I just didn't care for. I was more into the scenes of Mishima. It starts off on that fateful day of November 25, 1970 and then branches off into his life story.

It's a good movie, I'm going to try to watch the bonus disc when I get around to it.

Ed Wood - R Great movie, Martin Landau's awards and accolades are well deserved. I laughed SO HARD at the octopus scene.

Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast were also terrific. They went through so much. This movie is a nice tribute. Tim Burton's most sophisticated film.

The Holiday - PG-13 The downsides to this movie: Cameron Diaz the actress, as Amanda (her role wasn't so awful, though), Amanda's TERRIBLE trailers, the awful voiceover guy in the trailers doing voiceover in the movie, and Rufus Sewell looking gross.

The other actors are very talented and respectable. I loved the cameos, too. Nice use of songs, especially Imogen Heap, Frou Frou.

It's a very good romantic film. I didn't love it, but I do see that it is well done.

The Reaping - R Horrible, horrible CGI. I mean, REALLY BAD. It's a shame, I really liked this movie, despite really hokey parts and the aforementioned special effects. This would've been a better movie if it had better CGI and a better director. August 6, 2008

Charlie Bartlett - R This is a terrible movie. I feel like the only people who would like this are those who don't watch indie movies and therefore have never seen a movie like this before. This movie stars the kid who got kidnapped in Alpha Dog as this annoying kid who wants to be popular in his high school so he sells prescription meds to his classmates. One star solely for RDJ. Tirez sur le pianiste (Shoot the Piano Player) - Unrated What was so great about this? It's well done, a variety of genres, great cinematography by Raoul Coutard, great acting, fine storytelling, but I'm not impressed. It isn't rave-worthy, just a decent movie. August 2, 2008

Epic Movie - PG-13 I lolled at their X-men, MTV spoofs but not much else. They had a really good Jack Sparrow impersonator but I guess that isn't really hard to pull off. I liked the Gnarnia "for legal purposes" bit. August 2, 2008

Step Brothers - R I'm more a John C. Reilly fan than Will Ferrell, but they were great together in Talladega Nights. Overall, it was a fun comedy, the audience enjoyed the film and were quite vocal about it. July 31, 2008

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (The X Files 2) - PG-13 Bias: Hardcore X-files fan, Mulder/Scully shipper.

At first, I didn't think I was going to like it. The first scene of Mulder/Scully was really nice, a refresher from their first visit in the premiere. Overall, it was like an extended standalone ep, no mythology. It was also nice to see some familiar faces from the X-files (Alex Diakun). Shippers, maybe you should stay past the credits :) Also, X-files theme remixed by Unkle. Nice.

Will you like it? Most likely not as the majority hasn't so far. I just have a special place in my heart for this show and I"ll keep watching as long as they keep putting them out.

The Nanny Diaries - PG-13 Pretty good! I love the cast, especially Laura Linney, she's such a great actress! Chris Evans is always a pleasure. Scarlet Jo wasn't wooden for once. Alicia Keys seems out of place but she didn't have a huge role in the movie. Grover/Grayer was adorable :) July 27, 2008

Blast of Silence - Unrated I didn't find it as suspenseful as the reviews claimed. I'm not sure how this movie warranted a Criterion release but I have read a glowing review from EW so this movie has to be significant in some way. I did read somewhere that this was a low budget movie. Eh, I'm still not too impressed. July 27, 2008

Shôwa kayô daizenshû (Karaoke Terror) - Unrated I saw some of this when it was at the film festival, mostly attracted by Ryuhei Matsuda. Netflix has it on DVD with some special features as well, so I'm glad I was able to rent it. Overall, it's OK. The story is really good, kind of like a tag game of revenge. I hear it's based off a book by Ryu Murakami but I'm not sure if that's true. July 26, 2008
