V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
V for Vendetta 5.0 Stars
This is an outstanding film I really cannot think of a concept as good as this (in my eyes) in a film.
The characters are casted excellently and play the roles as if the film had actually happened in reality.
The scripts are so emotional yet clever and witty.
At first this film may appear to you overwhelming, over-the-top but its just one of those films with a deeper surface than most, that needs to be absorbed. Its a movie you could watch over again and pick up things you missed out on the first time round.
Its believeable in a sense that we can actually relate on a smaller scale to the power in which governemnt feel they have over their people...
they really have made a unique film and in my opinion successfully made a classic.
Its full of action, drama and romance and hopefully it will astound you as much as it did to me.

MirrorMask (2005,  PG)
MirrorMask 5.0 Stars
This film gained the position as my alltime favourite generally because from the very start to the very end its creative flair never ceases. The imagination put into this film is complimented by the amazing use of graphics.
Stephanie Leonidas plays the main role spectacularly along with the rest of the cast.
The atmosphere and mystical mood of the film left me hanging intrigued and curious til the end.
Dave Mckean has made this film also to have an interprutable hidden meaning just as an artist does with his or her work.
This to me is an excellent film, its individualism and differentiality makes this film an even better watch.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002,  PG-13)
The Count of Monte Cristo 5.0 Stars
This movie is revenge at it's best.
This is a story of the deciet and betrayal an honest man endures and the revenge that unravels to claim the love that was wrongly taken from him.
Although at a disadvantage of not being able to compare this to the book, this is an excellent film!
As the characters are introduced you immediately grow to understand the likeable character Edmond Dantes for his genuine, honest and loyal characteristics.
As the unjust acts his "best friend" unfold against this innocent man, revenge becomes a way for Dantes to hold on for hope and that one day he may claim back what was wrongly taken away from him.
The entire film will keep you intrigued, holding on to what happens next.
The characters have been excellently cast, suiting their roles like no other could.
Definately worth a see.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption 5.0 Stars
This film is powerful, poignant, thought-provoking and challenging like no other.
Having been wrongly convicted of murdering both his wife and her lover, Andy Dufresne is sentenced to two life sentences, and is sent to the notoriously harsh Shawshank Prison.
What makes this film so suberb is the message it conveys. It is one of eternal hope, a message we all can relate to.
The film also manages to succeed at greater things than simply entertaining.
Overall it is a compelling drama, and a very moving film, perfectly written, acted and shot. They just don't come much better than this.

Kill Bill: Volume 1 5.0 Stars
An outstanding film and in my opinion Quentin Tarantino's finest.
Uma thurman plays her role excellently and convinces the audience where empathy should lie depsite her background. The film is a cleverly written story of revenge and the fight uma puts up to kill each of her betrayers.
Complimented with dramtic lighting & arty techniques the violence of this film is enjoyable in a sense to watch.
I thoroughly reccomend it.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3-D) (1993,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3-D) 5.0 Stars
Arguably Tim Burtons best film.
An enlighting, imaginative tale of unlikely yet likeable, dark characters of halloween town. The protagonist Jack Skellington, tired of the same old routine of scaring, discovers a new type of holiday, christmas. A very well animated film, this is stop motion animation at its best. Enjoyable, catchy music even for those who aren't particularly fond of musicals.
Very highly reccomended.

P.S. I Love You 4.5 Stars
An absolutely brilliant, beautiful film.
I'm disappointed in the reviews and lack of acknowledgement for this film.
Despite critics stating this movie has "bad acting" i beg to differ. Holly, (Hilary Swank) plays a convincing main role the only let down is her mother (Kathy Bates).
This film is inspirational and heartwarming, i love the plot and i love cecilia ahern's novels (highly reccomend them).
This is a film i will not forget, that will stay with me for years to come.
For the teary people out there, bring a box of tissues.
The film is cleverly mixed with drama and light comedy that surely will keep you entertained throughout the entire feature.
Without a doubt this film is the best romantic drama/comedy I have seen, I highly reccomend it.
I will be buying the DVD.

The Life Before Her Eyes (2007,  R)
The Life Before Her Eyes 4.5 Stars
"the heart is the body's strongest muscle"

This film is not straight forward like your mainstream film. It is imaginative and uses a combination of tecnhiques that truely make this film unique. Thurman is outstanding as the older, pensive Diana, and Wood perhaps even better as the self-confident, rebellious younger version. Perelman's direction captures the dreamy lyricism contrasting with a sometimes brutal realism. I found this to be a truely moving film & i took a lot away from it. I'll be buying the dvd.

I have always been a fan of arnold schwaznegger films and this has to be one of his best.
Packed full of on the edge of your seat moments, this is one of my all time favourite action films.
Although not realistic this film uses the concept of man vs machine which inevitably isn't too farfetched.
I highly reccomend this if you haven't already watched it.

Johnny Depp is exceptional within his role and because this film focuses so closely upon his role the character building does this film wonders which also plays on the audience's empathy. the plot and script is just outstanding & the entire length of the film will keep you intruiged waiting for what happens next, an excellently constructed and shot film.

The Holiday (2006,  PG-13)
The Holiday 5.0 Stars
This is ineveitably cliched as a "chick flick" but nevertheless this i found to be one of my favourite films.

The holiday is a film about different types of love. As Iris (Kate Winslet) quotes from the film.

"Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone? We are the victims of the one sided affair."

From the very beginning and onwards from this introduction the holiday overwrites any means of a b grade, predictable film.

I would reccomend this to people who have expeienced, love lost or faded, love found and/or a one sided kind of love. It is a heartwarming film that will put a smile on your face and leave you satisfied. Superb acting.

Definately worth a watch.

Enough (2002,  PG-13)
Enough 4.5 Stars
As the movie progresses and the audience gains an understanding of the situation you see through slim's (jennifer lopez) perspective of how her life changed so dramatically and immediately attach yourself to her good nature and interest in her child's well-being. The unjust act that causes heartbreak mixed with anxiety and anger leads to revenge that rightfully belongs to Slim.
Its an enjoyable watch that cleverly involves the audience in an "on the edge of your seat" way. It's believable, realistic and shows how women can stand up to men.
I'd consider this film more of an action/drama with suspense thrown in.
It's definately worth a see, its an excellent film.

I'm watching this film in english at the moment and I must say its a very good film. The storyline & idea of institutions in a negative sense reminds me of the shawshank redemption. This film overall is an interesting, believable watch with good acting from the entire cast. Its suspense entices you to watch on intruiged to what may happen next, but best of all and most sad of all this story is based on a true story.

yes it is also a horror and it earns that title with a few gorey bits but not overly so to destroy the movie.
