| I listen to mostly pop, rock, metal, and I've taken to a few German artists recently... I'll watch almost any movie, except for musicals. I've only come across two that I actually liked - Moulin Rouge and Sweeney Todd. |

Hancock
by IraIt never ceases to amaze me how a story with an undefined background ultimately destroys any movie.
I was quite surprised to witness how astonishingly great the special effects rendered in this movie was. Though shoddy-looking at the beginning, the CGI in this film thankfully improved twenty minutes into the film, offering the viewer fresh perspectives into the old "super hero" cinematography we've all probably gotten used to. Despite this, it caused me a slight headache watching this movie due to the "shaky" manner the director opted to shoot the whole flick. I'm not exactly sure if he did this to give the film a "real time" feel. If so, it didn't work in my opinion and only served as a nuisance to the viewer.
Anyway, I did like the way the director gave this film a spin on the whole "super hero' trend going on in Hollywood at the moment by turning the whole hero storyline on it's head and focused it, instead, from a totally different perspective such as everyone hating Will Smith's super hero character in the movie and giving him a flawed, vulnerable and secretly suffering, almost human quality on screen.
Despite this, I'll have to admit that this was, by far, Will Smith's worst performance to date. But maybe this what he was exactly trying to achieve since he was portraying a constantly drunk, surly, and morose super hero.
Aside from that, I feel that the storyline of this film had huge lapses in it, such as who the heck are Charlize Theron and Will Smith in this film really, for starters.
Not only that, the entire cast of this film clearly didn't have any chemistry with one another and the script of this film was absolutely dull.My opinion about Hancock.

Wanted
by IraThis movie is a perfect example of how an awesome looking trailer misleads potential movie goers into assuming that a movie is going to be great.
To begin with, I'm a huge fan of movies based from graphic novels and I personally believe that the trend of doing so was recently one of the best things that ever happened to the world of movie making. Aside from that, I'm an avid fan of Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy.
Still, this movie was a complete disappointment for me.
After seeing this movie, the best way I could describe it was that it was very messy. Sure, it had all the making of a good action movie such as car chases and showdowns with guns. But it was wrong for the director to assume that just because you incorporate cliche after action flick cliche into a movie will let it pass as a good one. It may get you satisfied visually. But substance of storyline should be prioretized more in my opinion because despite how mind-boggling the stunts and special effects are in an action movie, it will be the storyline that will keep the viewer interested once all the "smoke and mirrors" get boring.
Not only that, the storyline lacked so much in terms of structure and progressed poorly right from the start. The movie leaves you hanging about so many things regarding the background behind it's storyline that it just leaves you unconvinced about everything that's happening as you watch. Lastly, the script was just awful. Hearing the word "fuck" over a hundred times in a movie worked for Scarface, but that doesn't mean that it will work again. By doing so, the lead actors, especially Jolie and McAvoy, seemed like they were posing as mere thugs rather than exuding the needed sinister coolness of an onscreen assassin.
On the otherhand, I like the way the director attempted an experimental technique of executing this film's cinemtography, shooting it in a distinctly diffrent manner from what we normally see in such movies. Still, he should've given it more effort for his attempt, sadly, fell short.
If you like straight-up action movies, than Wanted is right up your alley. But if you're more interested in movies with more substance, then just wait for this movie to hit the DVD shelves instead to save yourself from inevitable disappointment. My thoughts about this movie.

The Happening
by IraI know how much this movie was slammed by the critics.
Honestly, I don't really blame them for doing so.
I'm sorry, but I was so disappointed by this film, especially since critics were raving about M. Night Shyamalan way back when he first came into the movie scene.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate M. Night Shyamalan. Personally, I really liked his movie Lady in the Water (despite how weird it was). But, what the hell happened with this movie?
First off, the story was just terrible. It was utterly unclear and the resolution that M. Night Shyamalan expects his viewers to accept in the end of this film was just absurd and completely unfounded. Aside from that, though I have nothing against the three main actors in this fim, namely Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, and John Leguizamo, their performances in this flick were utterly atrocious. They clearly didn't fit well in this movie at all.
I hate to say it, but this movie may very well be the beginning of the end for M. Night Shyamalan.I'm not actually recommending this. Aside from I'm voicing-out my grievances about it, I'm sort of warning you guys not to watch this movie.

The Incredible Hulk
by IraTo begin with, I'd like to point out that I sadly haven't read any of The Incredible Hulk comic books. With this said, I won't pretend that I knew how accurate this movie was in translating The Hulk's story on screen. I'll leave that task to other Flixster frequenters who're more knowledgable with the actual comic book series.
Now, let's move on to my actual review.
First and foremost, I saw the first Hulk movie where in Eric Bana was the lead. I do admit that this version with Edward Norton at the helm was a lot better. Aside from Norton giving a better, more engaging performance as Dr. Bruce Banner/Hulk than Bana, this movie offered so much more in terms of story structure, visuals, cinematography, and story progression which were all top notch.
On the other hand, the special effects at certain points during this movie faltered a little. Aside from that, the rest of the cast gave slightly bland performances. Still, all of them performed well enough not to ruin this movie completely.
As a whole, even though there wasn't anything spectacular about it, this movie will still entertain you well enough 'till the end to merit two thumbs up.
On a personal note, I know a lot of Flixster aficionados are griping about this one for a lot of diverse reasons. I respect everyones opinion as we are all entitled to them. But let's not lose of the fact that this IS a super-hero flick and not a Scorsese or Cohen Brothers movie, okey?My opinions about this movie.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
by IraLet me begin by saying that the director was right about this film - This truly was a sort of coming-of-age movie.
When you watch Narnia:Prince Caspian, you'll get a significantly darker and more mature film than its predecesor, Narnia:The Lion,The Witch, and the Wardrobe, which was a straight up fairytale full of whimsy and enchantment. But, personally, this characteristic is the sole thing that hindered me from liking this movie more than I did.
Very remeniscent of what the director did with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban, the director of Narnia:Prince Caspian tried to make this sequel with a more serious storyline, probably to appeal the the "older" movie going demographic. But, the latter fared better than this film simply because it still retained its core sense of fantasy.
In Narnia 2, much of the "magic" of Narnia one was superseded by the violence and soberiety of its storyline that, I think. made the whole film suffer.
It may very well be due to personal bias, but this is film was made from a fantasy for kids for Christ's sake! It would've been way better if only the director didn't lose sight of this vital aspect found in Narnia 1 that ultimately made it a success.
Aside from that, 30 minutes into the film seemed like the whole thing was going no where and the actor who played Caspian gave a performance which left much to be desired and had a Spanish accent that was very distracting. Not only that, I feel that production of the special effects in this movie was sort of stilted since it all paled in comparison to the epic and awesome special effects found in Narnia 1. Lastly, the cinematography in this film was poor.
On the other hand, I applaud the way the cast who played the original kings and queens of old in Narnia 1 matured very nicely as bonafide actors and actresses and gave very good performances on screen, especially the child actress who played Lucy who practically outshone all of her older cast members. I'll definately be looking out for movies in the future with them in it since it was made clear in the end on this film that they wouldn't be making a comeback in the sequels to come.Aside from that, I really liked the mouse knight character and the surly, blond dwarf who both effectively interjected the much needed comedy in this film. Lastly, the cameo of Tilda Swinton as the white witch, the return of Aslon near the end and the stand-off fight by the Narnians at their keep in the middle of the forest against the Thelmarin army were all very cool.
As a whole, despite my initial misgivings about this film, I still feel that it was a good enough flick. My thoughts about Narnia: Prince Caspian
