Batman Gotham Knight
by Lestat Just like "The Animatrix" filled the gap between the 1st two installments of the Matrix trilogy, "Batman: Gotham Knight" serves as a bridge between "Batman Begins"and "The Dark Knight". This 6 short animated stories shows us how Bruce Wanes grows amateur crime fighter into the Caped Crusader. Every short is a self-contained story that fits into a bigger picture and the mythos that is the Batman.
This collection of short films is not for everyone though; you have to be either a true Batman fan or a serious animation enthusiast to really appreciate this compilation. This is not the mainstream animation most people have grown accostumed, nor is in the same vein of the WB series. Besides being heavily influenced by anime, most of the artists' rendition of the Dark Knight is their interpretation of who Batman is. A few nods to the comic book will please comic book readers; also enriching the character and adding depth to it.
Overall, this is a great treat to Bat-fans. Not everyone will like it but those who do will certainly find "The Dark Knight" a bit more enjoyable.posted 15 days ago -

WALL-E
by Lestat Remember Johnny 5 from "Short Circuit"? Meet his smaller cousin WALL-E; a little robot with 10 times more soul than R2-D2 (I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan so it's hard for me to say that) but equally funny. Join the last denizen of Earth in a journey to the end of the cosmos and back; you will laugh, cry, and cheer for our little hero.
What happens when a little robot programmed to clean the planet is the last of its kind? He develops a personality...and what a personality. Little WALL-E's range of emotion is impressive, and considering his "face" consists of just a pair of binoculars eyes it's an impressive feat. But not just his eyes; his body language and vocals give a performance that would put a lot of so-called actors to shame. Add to the mix Ben Burtt providing WALL-E's "voice" and you've struck gold. The guys at Pixar outdid themselves (yet again) and created a gem of a film.
But though WALL-E is the soul of this film, it couldn't have been possible without the boundless imagination of the wizards at Pixar. Every little artistic detail is perfectly rendered; models, backgrounds, lighting effects, sound effects, camera angles, textures, etc. This is truly one of the best animated films ever made. The same could be said about EVE; her sleek & sexy design is infinitely better once all the artistic layers have been applied. And though WALL-E has an almost human like personality, she can hold her own against him. The same holds true for the rest of the supporting characters.
But not all is peaches & cream in this latest Pixar movie. This film does make some harsh observations on current human behaviors & trends, but it doesn't feel preachy. It does have a slight "2001: A Space Odyssey" feeling, but it is perfectly balanced with the more family friendly part of the story.
Overall, don't miss this movie. It's not just a beautiful movie and maybe one of 2008's best, it's one of the best animated movies of all time. Don't dismiss it because of this fact, remember that animation is just another form of storytelling. Another tool that artists use to communicate their ideas. Truly a heartwarming & beautiful film, you won't be disappointed. Boys and girls, old and young, this movie is for everyone.Don't miss it.

The Incredible Hulk
by Lestat HULK SMASH!!!! That's what this new incarnation of the Green Goliath does to the box office. After 5 years of continued ridicule and been derided as one of the worst comic book adaptations (which I respectfully disagree), the Jade Giant has come back in full force; and it's a force to be reckoned. Though it'll be hard not to pull comparisons with the earlier Hulk version, I'll do my best to stay focused on this new incarnation.
Director Louis Leterrier took the "Superman Returns" route; he knows we know the Jekyll & Hyde plot so he didn't waste time rehashing it. Though I was insecure that the director of "The Transporter" franchise could resurrect the Hulk, I was utterly wrong. Not only did he successfully resurrected it, he transformed it into one of the best comic book adaptations ever. He perfectly balanced the tortured soul of Bruce Banner with the raging green fury inside of him. He even managed to insert some nostalgic elements for those of us who remember Bill Bixby walking down the highway all by himself. The dramatic sequences are great but so are the action scenes. You really get a balance between these 2 characters and you feel for Bruce Banner and all that he's lost.
But not every good thing in this movie rests in the hands of the director. He has a great cast supporting his vision. William Hurt and Liv Tyler are great as General Ross and Betty. Even better is Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, a career military man who's thirst for fighting has kept him stuck in the chain of command for far too long and sees in the Hulk the ultimate challenge. But the star of the show is Edward Norton, who's depiction of "puny" Bruce Banner is the best in the silver screen so far. If only once I got to make the comparison; though I think Eric Bana did a great job in the previous film, I liked Norton's Banner better. Maybe it was the script, or Norton's smaller frame but he really nailed the part. Kudos to him and the rest of the cast.
But what about the Hulk himself? That lean, mean green machine of rage that got snubbed as "Shrek on steroids" 5 years ago? - On side note, I personally like it and think it is one of the best VFX ever; if you want to read more, check my review of "Hulk" (2003). - This time around, the proportions of the character aimed to be more realistic instead of comic bookish. ILM did a phenomenal job with the original one but most movie goers didn't like it. That's why Louis Leterrier wanted this Hulk to look & feel more real. This incarnation of the Hulk doesn't have an ounce of body fat and has a presence that 's impossible to ignore. His looks, movements, facial expressions, body language, etc are perfect. Rhythm & Hues proved they are worthy to take where ILM left off. They infused him with life the same way WETA did with King Kong.
In my humble opinion, "The Incredible Hulk" is the best movie of this summer so far (yes, even better than "Iron Man". Not just better, FAR better). It reinvindicated the character and opened the door for more entries. Marvel is on the fast track to unleash the Avengers and are not afraid to let us now. If they keep this up, make mine Marvel.
P.S. Stay sharp and check the Captain America hints throughout the movie.Hulk SMASH!!!!
