Wooo! I saw this film a very long time ago. But i am only giving it a comment now because i saw it on the Psycho page hehe.
Well, back to business. I love the cast in this film. Nobody could have played the parts better..possibly the most beautiful actress ever Grace Kelly looked ravishing in this film, and it is often a case of argument in my house that James Stewarts character has the most beautiful girlfriend...waiting at his hand and knee...and he still is more obsessed with the guy next door.. I mean come on!! She was Hitchcocks favourite actress after all! Well enough about Grace, This film is fantastic. Now that ive seen Psycho, it may not b as good, but its certainly a 5 star film nothing less. Hitchcocks direction is yet again flawless, james stewarts acting perfection. I love watching Hitchcock films, and black and white films, it makes me reminisce about those times, and the black and white brings a romantic mystery and intrigue to the surroundings that only black and white can do. Hitchcock has been tried and copied but noone will compare to the genius that is Alfred. Really, no-one makes films like this anymore, or has actors, actresses and directors like this anymore. People come close..but dont reach this fantastic, almost impossible level of perfection. However, the reason why i think this one is slightly not as good as Psycho is because it is a bit more complicated..has different levels, different emotions portrayed. Everyone who watches this has a different interpretation of what the main story is..which makes it a brilliant film, but i rather like my simplicity, especially in films. I just saw the rating averages to this film and i was quite surprised that most people gave it 4 stars...a lot of films made nowadays plae in comparison but they get given the same result...baffling. Anyway...if you are as passionate as me about old black and white Hitchcock films..then watch this..but if u are thinking this really isnt the kind of film for me..please just give it a chance..im sure u wont be disappointed! |

| Psycho - R |
Wow...a film so damn close to perfection...wait let me reword that...this film is perfect in every single way. I know im a bit slow as i saw it for the first time yesterday. If u want a run-of-the-mill, generic horror movie..dont watch this. I have been thinking about it since last night and i couldnt sleep (which believe me is a BIG thing :D) and it really does make u think about the human mind and what difficult circumstances in childhood can do to a person. Norman Bates seemed so unbelievably nice..the type of guy i would love to make friends with. Although I knew who the killer was before i saw the film, it didnt spoil it for me at all. The film starts amazingle..and gets better as time progresses. At first i thought, what happens during the rest of the film if Marion Crane dies an hour through? Well...i have to tell u it was so engrossing i couldnt sit on my chair properly. I watched the film with my dad..who tried to lead me off the track..but still i got there in the end. The plot summary given on this website really sums Psycho up. I didnt realise htis film was going to be this good! It combines all my favourite genres (horror, thriller, murder mystery) without being too complicated or unfeasible.
Anthony Perkins' performance amazes me. Its true, u really dont see acting of this standard present nowadays. I know i will watch this film again and again and still eb completely anjd utterly transfixed, and each time i will be mindboggled by his amazing acting. We all know it wasnt a fluke, he genuinely creeped me out, especially in the ending scenes with Vera Miles. Well i cant even begin to sum up how good this film is in a little comment like this. But this film is truly the best i have ever seen, Black and white makes it a better experience and i kinda miss black and white films, they add a whole new perspective and if Psycho was filmed in colour then it wouldnt be half as good. Hitchcocks flawless direction, meticulous sense of detail and shadow brought this film to a whole new dimension... Watch it....and even if u have already..Watch it again...its THAT good =D |
