Gone in 60 Seconds
by JessWhat is cool? Or more specifically what defines cool? Is it a certain time and place, a simple frame of mind, or a stylish object of great desire? Cool can be a lot of things or just 1 in particular. Fast cars, will always remain one of them, and the legions people that obsess over them shall never fade
Speed, Thrill, Danger, adrenaline, and style. Throw all these key ingredients into a blender and you come up with 1 hell of a nice mix. Like a sweet cocktail that lifts you right off your feet, its sexy it?s sinful and it?s irresistibly satisfying., so much that you can?t get enough and keep comin back for more.
Gone in 60 Seconds is a fast paced action flick that takes you on an unforgettable thrill ride. As Samuel Jackson once said ?Hold onto your butts.?You better do just that cuz it?s gonna get rough, so strap her in tight.
Gone 60 Seconds is a remake of the original film of the same name, but this time we?ve upped the antie. The name of the game is Car Theft, or as the pros call it GTA.
How many cars can you steal without getting caught and how fast can you do it?
Now what if the stakes were as big as it gets? What if someone?s life depended on it?
This is where legendary car thief and expert driver Memphis Raines steps in, played by
That son of a gun Nick Cage.
Cage takes on this role with full ambition, literally becoming the character and creating him from the ground up, making him into a smooth talking nice guy that loves his family and misses his friends, but piss him off and you?ll find yourself getting burned.
Cage?s two rivals in this movie are British scumbag and underground crime lord Raymond Calitri , and top cop, inspector Castelbeck, who is more than determined to put
Memphis behind bars as the icing on the cake of his otherwise flawless career.
However unlike Castelbeck, Calitri won?t allow the law or anyone else to get in his way,and hes not above sending someone to their grave prematurely.
In gfact he's just the type of villain you?ve been wanting to hate from the beginning and gives you every reason to do so.
There?s a lot of tension in the movie, with old relationships, and issues being brought to the surface that never seemed to be resolved. Everyone is excited when Memphis returns to town after a long absence , but soon the excitement turns into resentment, as old rivals appear looking to settle scores and payoff debts the hard way.
In between all this tension, the characters still manage to make you laugh, as the exchange witty dialogue and a few clever one liners. There?s such a unique and colorful cast, this movie really brings together young and old, new school and old school car buffs into a strong brotherhood. Each character is easily identifiable and brings something special to the party. My favorite is the big stone faced bad ass they Call Sphinx, and who better to team him up with than the, short and flashy black man with a huge ego and an even bigger mouth. Works better than PB n J.
You really start to feel the chemistry between the pairings and how well each characters serves his or her purpose in the story.
The real message of this movie is togetherness and how each person in your life helps
Your individual relationships, your brother, your best friend, your girlfriend, your mentor, everyone ties each other together so well and we see that even without one person, it's easy to become separated.
Theres some really hot cars in this film, making a total of 50 in all, but the highlight is the
1967 Shelby GT500 which Memphis affectionately calls Eleanor, Couldn?t he have picked a better sounding name then Old Lady Eleanor? I mean does anyone think of the name Eleanor as a stunning beauty? Don?t think so. The only Eleanor that comes to mind is first Lady Eleanor Roosevelt., no disrespect but, come choose a different name for crying out loud.
Some very impressive stunts and driving , there?s action in every moment behind the wheel, the ending has a glorified and over the top adrenaline fueled chase scene.
Speed a holics will definitely enjoy the ride , and demolition fans will also have a lot to cheer about, as this scene delivers some devastating crashes and close calls.
The story and acting is nothing to sneeze at but, in terms of action based driving this has got to be one of the best movies ever made.
The cars are hot, the action is on fire, and Angelina Jolie is Smokin.
Gone In 60 seconds is like a brand new hotrod with all the additions, you just wanna take it for a spin, sit back and glide.See it, and like it.

The Golden Compass
by JessI just have to say..what in the blue horn moon was this? I dont get it..was it trying to be intellectual? preachy, political, religous, or just a childrens fairy tale? I just cant understand. I know it was based on a series of controversial books but damn, the movie did so poorly of telling a story that made any kind of sense at all. The entire movie seemed contrived. As if some sort of spin off of the Narnia series but to a lesser degree of fame. Id applaud such imaginative stories but, this one just fell flat. The only real acting talent was the lovely and classy Nicole Kidman although, the only thing more ridicouls than her gold sparkle dress was her more elegant than thou, hairstyle. She also had the look on her face the whole time as if she was either ready to sip wine or give somone a spanking.I couldnt help snicker at the moment she slapped her monkey.FYI, Never slap a monkey.
Its was more than diffcult trying to understand the thick british dialects let alone possibly comprehend the outlandish plot. Something about "Dust" dont look at me like that. At every mention of that word I think someone was asking "whered you hear about dust?" as if it were some kinda illegal street drug? Oh my lets not talk about Dust. Then there was the bear on bear fight. probably the most memorable scene in the movie. and who doesnt like CGI bears wrestling in the snow? I just didnt like the idea that the little girl had to be involved in every single moment. Still im glad to see a new face, because they could have easily booked Dakota Fanning and banked on her popularity, but i think shes had enough starring roles for a while.
On a plus side old scruffy face Sam Elliott was in the movieand Ian Mckellen's voice attached to the bear. not bad. A better choice then lets say James earl jones or micheal clark duncan as your typical montone bear.
Im really hoping they make something worth watching out of the sequels but I highly doubt it. What a pity.Hey, uhhh read^^^^

National Treasure: Book of Secrets
by JessIts hard to fathom that Lincoln's assassination could somehow be tied to the lost city of gold, and that said city is actualy inside Mt Rushmore. Still thats not all this story would have you believe. Some scenes of this movie are absurdly ridiculous. Such as luring the President away from his birthday party to go 1 on 1 cave digging just for the hell of it. Not to mention children that enthusiasticaly spat out government conspiriceis and polictical theory at random. Gee kids isnt history fun? its chock full of ancient mystreries and vast arrays of treasure oh and Booby traps. Only in the World of Disney.
By the way what's a great talent like Ed Harris doing in this film? I mean you hardly even recognize hes there in between all the word searches and number shuffling. oh wait hes the villain that turns out to be not so vile after all. Who could have guessed? Doesnt that make you feel guilty for misjudging him? shame on you.
This is definetly a Disney film trying to teach us the golden rules of life.
The plot in this movie, diverges itself from the Lincoln Assassanation because lets face it thats not nearly important enough or as interesting as an entire city of gold.
I mean finding out historial truths about the death of one of our nations greatest leaders should have to take a backseat to a greed filled pursuit of fame and fortune.
of corse. anyway Nick Cage is back in his role of champion rubix cube solver and embarks on a mission to prove his family's innocence by kidnapping the president, breaking into federal buildings stealing highly classified documents, pillaging the white house, and endangering the lives of everyone around him. sounds logical.
The movie is a sorta a quirky fun filled romp for the whole family, even though kids will probably zone out during all the witty banter and historical ramblings. It was on par with the original if not a little bit better. Rent it.Hey, you....look up here^^^^^

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
by JessNot quite what I expected.
The movie played out like a cheap thrill ride at Universal from moment to moment full of cheesy adventure clichés.
Ridiculous situations and events that just don?t add up realistically. Characters that were overly stereotyped. Dialogue that pays no attention to the plot except when it is the only means of telling the story. In other words the search and discovery puzzle solving felt and sounded utterly scripted and predictable. It was surprisingly violent and at the same time family oriented. There were some scenes that felt misplaced and unnecessary. The ending didn?t really do anything for me. Just you?re run of the mill happily ever after. The whole alien aspect of the film took away from its credibility and believability, stretching it into a strange fiction fantasy, instead of a historical and geographical adventure. Too many attempts at humor caused the action to become fool hardy rather than thrilling. Although it won?t ever become a classic, the movie can be described as fun filled for all ages, and a decent farewell for Mr. Jones.Heres what you get..
