Batman Gotham Knight - Unrated
i enjoyed most of this, but i really disliked opening chapter by olson/tanaka/nishimi, "have i got a story for you." the final chapter and the re-visiting of the scarecrow were my two favourte.

Survive Style 5+ - Unrated
seemingly random jumble of lives, but there is a great collective ending; this film is bizarre and at times truly hilarious. i thought vinnie jones and arakawa were great together. i loved the sets, wardrobe and soundtrack!

Martian Child - PG
i love amanda peet and i love the cusack's and i suppose this is a good family movie, but i was repulsed for nearly the entire duration of the film. i didn't think the child was cute at all, i found him rather creepy and irritating... the same goes for the story, quite drab and predictable. if you've seen the trailer you've pretty much seen the entire film; i suggest taking this route, that way you're only wasting about five mintues of your time and not one-hundred and ten.

My Father - Unrated
this was a really interesting story and henney gives a heartfelt performance. in my opinoin, this film accurately portrays identity issues korean americans/adoptees may feel. towards the end of the film things felt redundant and i feel it was drawn out for a little long, but this is worth seeing particuarly because you don't hear about many flims coming out of south korea dealing with this touchy subject. i hope the success of this film changes things a bit...i would love to see more stories about korean-american adoptees!

Thumbsucker - R
i was expecting great things (i adore mike mills' pv's), but was pretty disappointed. the film seemed to barely drag along until its sluggish ending. i think d'onofrio and swinton were enjoyable, but found reeves, pucci and garner to be quite loathsome. skip this, read the novel instead.

Proof - PG-13
this was a lot better than i expected it to be! though they were understandingly added to the film for clarity and cohesion i didn't like many of the flashbacks, they seemed quite clunky. nonetheless the acting prevailed, paltrow proves to be a fantastic dramatic actress, davis and hopkins performing well too.

Margot at the Wedding - R
i loved the way baumbach and savides filmed this, beautiful medium long and following shots intertwined with sharp dialogue...this is one kidman's best performances!

Vantage Point - PG-13
oh dear. this was so predictable it's nearly insulting and i didn't find it the least bit suspenseful. everything was poor, the acting, writing and direction, it's a bottom of the barrel generic action flick. i wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but this was bad on nearly every level!

Who's Camus, Anyway? (Kamyu nante shiranai) - Unrated
there is a great cast of rich characters- each with emotionally turbulent private lives; the students especially. their personal relationships seem so inconsistent that the production of their film seems to serve as their stable outlet; something they their pour their hearts into and is very important to each for various reasons. there are many beautiful shots, great film/literary references and a perfectly complimenting score. i really loved this film within a film, moreover the finale which i found to be very satisfying.

Birthday Boy - Unrated
a short, but very effective portrayal of the impact of war and the situations and truths we may be forced to accept whether or not we're emotionally mature enough to understand.

Zodiac - R
the acting in this film is really great. mark ruffalo really takes to toschi seamlessly, this role, in my opinion being his best performance yet. robert downey jr. as avery is believably neurotic with multiple wisecracks that may be lost due to some low talking. i also didn't find this film boring (like many), i really enjoyed the pace (savides did a great job as well!) and at points found it quite suspenseful. not fincher's greatest, but definitely one of my favourite films of 2007.
