| Control - R |
after finally seeing joy division (documentary), i saw i forgot to add this film to my flixster and i don't understand how i let it slip through the cracks...
visually everything was simple, but still stunning, the black and white was so proper for this story, there were no fancy editing/camera tricks. the acting was also supreme, i was so impressed with the depth of sam riley and how he not only perfected ian curtis's stage mannerisms, but also the distinctive bartione voice. toby kebbell also provided true moments of comedy as the boisterous rob gretton. one can also pick up on the true sincerity and care corbijn took while filming this, great attention to detail, no excessive romanticism, and as peter hook stated, it's "a hell of a lot more factual than 24 hour party people." |

| Joy Division - R |
i ended up really enjoying this; very candid interviews and recounts, especially with peter hook & tony wilson. the live footage is also great and the special features contain a many more short interview segments, as well as the live promotional taping of "transmission."
fans of joy division, this is well worth buying and compliments perfectly corbijn's (who appears briefly in this documentary) control. |

| Yes Man - PG-13 |
i didn't really have expectations for this film, so i actually ended up enjoying it! it was funnier than i expected, somewhat predictable, but entertaining. i am a big zooey fan, and fans of her will not be disappointed, she plays a wonderfully fun and quirky character!

| Good Time Max - Unrated |
james franco's directorial debut, and it wasn't awful, but it's a very tired and told tale. the plot is also very predictable, but a few decent performances offer some redemption...

| Milk - R |
every performance was great, bravo to the casting director. sean penn had a wonderful supporting cast, especially james franco who was perfectly controlled and i think this is probably his best role yet. there were also great moments of levity that i felt rounded out what would have been an otherwise inevitably grim film (we all know how it ends).
harris savides (a personal favourite) & van sant gave the viewer an almost fly-on-the-wall experience, using stock footage or hand held cameras to make it seem more like a documentary. addressing issues that are still very relevant, this is certainly one of my favourite van sant films, rousing and inspiring. |
