this was a surprising film: sharp dialogue and a wonderful performance from brendan gleeson! ...the 'conversation' with the american family was fantastic and hysterical!

it is a shame, if this would have been marketed properly (the trailer is bad, but the post is especially horrendous!) it would have been a much bigger hit. this is certainly recommend for all guy ritchie fans!

My Blueberry Nights - PG-13
i absolutely loved the first shot in the film and loved all the subway and desert shots. i enjoyed most performances, david straithairn, jude law (who is still charming) and chan marshall (who looked gorgeous!), but i thought natalie portman was the real bright spot of the film (though her hair was terrifyingly distracting). norah jones on the other hand was incredibly awkward, i would have perferred a smiling, but mute carboard cutout to her strange acting. also, while i enjoy cat power's music i didn't think it- or any of the music used for that matter fit well. overall, it is a good movie, but i defnitely wouldn't recommend this as a starting point for those interested in wong kar-wai films; to weigh this against his previous works would be folly.

The Bank Job - R
aside from snatch this is the only jason statham film i've ever enjoyed. i felt the beginning was a bit too tawdry and really poorly edited, but by the middle of the film things began to pick up and become interesting. i really disliked the (entirely too) happy ending, but overall this was pretty entertaining.

Bullitt - PG
i love classic crime thrillers- the use of music, the car chase and of course steve mcqueen (a nod to toschi).

Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle) - PG
i can watch this film over and over- the plot turns in the story are great (especially what happens to howl!) and even the english dubbing is awesome, billy crystal as calcifer was hilarious!

Castle in the Sky (Tenkû no shiro Rapyuta) - Unrated
i didn't like the english dubbing at all, definitely stick to the original japanese track, but this is a really fun watch and at times quite hilarious (especially the son: "what can i say, they like dessert!")
