The story of 4 friends struggling for respect on the streets of 80's Harlem. Tupac Shakurs role is something to talk about. His anger and frustration, bottled at first, suddenly erupts and you find yourself having little sympathy for the guy until you clue in on where his anger stems from.
Why don't people make films like this anymore. Where are the genius' nowadays? So much of entertainment is force feeding you things you've already seen a thousand times. How about a film that leaves you wondering about the world you live in and the people that inhabit it, nothing more. Watch this movie smoke a joint drop some shrooms and listen to Bill Hicks and you're mind will be blown
This film just grows on me everyyime I watch it. I'm actually suprised this is my first review I've seen it a couple of times. The blending of beautiful classical music while Alex and his gang rumble billy boys gang is probably the best fight scene ever filmed. Not to mention the sex scene and how well they sync the music. Movies that gain a certain cult following I always see more than once so I can find out for myself what people like about it and ultimately what I like about it.
Love is the theme. We've seen this done a million times but not in the setting of an afterlife for suicide victims. Once you get past the title you're gonna enjoy this daring and original movie.
One of the few sequels that not only surpassed my expectations but kinda blew the first one away. You fall in love with characters in the first one and you see them again but they're different and somehow they managed to not make it corny. Plus i love how you revisit the first one then the future and then the upside down crazy future, keeps the movie going in a such a sweet way.
This is one of those movies I watch and feel really cool watching it. Like listening to a Miles Davis record or something. I love the dialogue. Though borrowing a lot from the noir catalogue this movie handles well on its own. It made suburbia actually feel like crime infested 1930's Chicago, it's brilliant you gotta have a special kind of eye to pull that off.
Sugarpuss O' Shea YES YES YES LORD YES. I don't use the word delightful very much but I cannot think of another word to sum up this movie. It made me smile from beginning to end. What initially intrigued me was Professor Potts' (Gary Cooper) quest to understand the language of modern slang. Their was a statement he made in the movie about how he felt like a hermet isolated from the world after he heard his first slang words and that this is a whole language he has yet to understand. The 7 other Professors were pretty funny. You might even recognize one of them Richard Haydn who played the caterpillar in Alice In Wonderland and the old guy informing Dr. Frankenstein about his new inheritance in Young Frankenstein.
King for a day or a shmuck for life indeed. Rupert Rupkin is a clinically insane person, yes, but his persistance is really admirable I mean let's face it is he who get's the last laugh. I love how the dream sequences just happens. Their are no intros no harps playing. It let's us know the depth of Ruperts obsession with fame how his border between real & fantasy is just an invisible line.
Not exactly the most nutso of characters in my opinion but he is interesting. My favorite scene would be where he is in all black and he's taken his art instructor hostage. Oh and theres probably one moment that resemble A Clockwork Orange, I honestly hate when a movie is compared to any of Kubricks work he's in a clas of his own. You can re-create his shots and scenes all day but it will never have the same tone or feel.
This became an instant classic to me the moment the ending credits started rolling. I've been wanting to see the Full Monty for years ,12 to be exact. I'm so happy the main character was from trainspotting cause he was a tool and it's nice to see him in something more warm hearted. It's such a good fucking movie theres so much I love about it. My favorite scene is when they're in line collecting their checks when "hot stuff" plays over the p.a. and they all start to very mildly do their routine...goddammit this is a good movie. This will be my test movie for people if they say i liked it but the male stripping was kinda uncomfortable than I know you're just an insecure bastard.
I never knew scatman crothers did the voice for hong kong phooey before, that's hysterical! It's a pretty great movie, it's damn near perfect. I'm watching it again just to make sure.
