I have a soft spot for Theatre. Backstage shennanigans, the atmosphere hours before showtime everybody moving and nervous and excited. I've heard a lot about Orson Welles unfortunately I first heard of him as the fat arrogant actor...then I discovered the skinny arrogant Orson Welles...i kinda like the latter. The guy who played em was amazing.
It's like I was magically transported to 1995 and another Disney movie came out. It ruled. It had no outside influences, no snarky ironic humor. Everything that came from the screen was authentic Walt Disney material.
I noticed it spoke a lot about the future of combat warfare and american imperialism. What's more perfect than invading a country disguised as your enemy. Avatar could possibly be the movie of the decade since that is the biggest craze at the moment. Facebook,Myspace,Twitter,Flixster! We create new people for ourselves cause what's better than a cool made up version of you...the truth? You can tell James Cameron put a lot of heart and soul into this I wasn't disappointed one bit...no one would be.. I have to say though the first couple of minutes reminded me of those live stage shows they have at Disneyland..it all seemed a bit surreal..maybe? I suggest you spend the extra cash for 3D glasses. You won't regret it.
The truth is I can't really put into words how I feel about this movie yet. I'm still in awe. I've seen it twice and it's just not enough for me to fully talk about.
"Their are 8 million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them" So great. It's obvious where NYPD Blue, Law & Order & Csi get their influences from. New York City is a such a majestic & mysterious place. It's a perfect back drop for any story. The sounds of the people and trains and cars. Never a boring moment.
Normal is a word people hide behind to feel safe. I think Leo & Kate are as a good a pair as Bogie & Bacall, two raw actors with a geniune chemistry. Michael Shannon gave a great performance. I understood where he came from so clearly it was almost upsetting to watch. Great movie.
This movie is kind of spooky now that I think about it. It's too bad we live in a world where paperwork and an arbitrary amount of money stands in the way of you feeling better and healthier. Why does surgery cost so much. I get that it's precise and it takes patience. I mean you're tinkering with human lives here I understand why the rewards are so high but shit we pay athletes more than doctors. So it really comes down to a question. How do people determine the cost of things?
I've always loved the I'm not going to be pushed around anymore characters. I couldn't stand all the people who were shitting on him constantly, even his own family. I don't think I've ever had a "Fuck Yeah" moment louder than the scene where he beats the shit outta the 4 guys who t-boned them. He buttons up his jacket first..fucking incredible. We can all relate to this guy. Theirs not a single human being out there that hasn't wished they could muster up enough momentum to actually do the things the voice inside your head is instinctively telling you to do.
The first and only porn movie that I saw from beginning to end. Had to let that one out. What can you say It's a porn epic. I think Burt Reynolds found the role he's been searching for his whole life. His very appearance screams porn director. At the end they should have put one frame from fight club when Mark Walhberg shows his prosthetic penis.
This is basically a conspiracy movie without being too direct. It's a creepy feeling when a movie makes you feel good in a way but you know it shouldn't. Lemme explain. I never sympathized with Jim Carrey's character at first because like the rest of the world he was just a character on the t.v. Then you suddenly wake up and realize everything in this guys life is a sham. Everybody is just contractually obligated to be in his life. I know theirs a twilight zone episode with the same kind of premise. I'm certain.
Neil Simon is the only playwriter I know. Neil Simon is the only playwriter I like. The thing that's so great about Neil Simon is that in his world everybody is the cut-up everyone has their little zingers. I really dig that. A universe where everyone understands comedy & timing. That's paradise to me.
One of the reasons I like about this movie is all the on-set stories I heard about. Breaking wind during takes. Uncontrollable laughter. The ad-libs that were put in the movie. Great cast. Great performances. This movie punches you in the fucking face and you love it!
I wasn't a fan of Ricky Gervais before I found out about this movie. Now I wanna marry him. The reason you ask? A long time ago I proclaimed (to myself of course) if a movie can make me laugh out loud during the opening credits and immediately turn my skepticism into immediate enthusiasm for every second that follows my laughter I will marry whoever was responsible for that..so cheers.
I'm suprised I haven't reviewed this. Ok first off this is probably the most sincere heartfelt animated movie I've ever seen. The father son or king and cub relationship is heartwarming. Great songs. Funny lines. I've loved this movie for a while now. I would also like to add that this movie is the only Jeremy Irons reference point I have... haven't really seen any of his work but his name always pops up somehow.
Great music documentary that explores todays music business and how formula has taken over quality. Very simple documentary with interesting interviewees.
