| Synopsis: | If you've never been good at anything in your life, why would murder be any different? A Dog's Breakfast is a head smacking, bone breaking, fiancé bashing romp, about a family that just loves themselves to pieces. Patrick has always had a somewhat combative relationship with his little sister Marilyn. But when she brings home her new TV star fiancé Ryan, it's all out war. When Patrick fails to drive a wedge between the happy couple, he reaches for sharper instruments. Every family has a few skeletons in the closet; A Dog's Breakfast is the nightmarishly funny mess Patrick makes when he tries to add another to his. |

This dark comedy is unique and I loved it. A brother's relationship with his sister starts warped and gets far more interesting as it goes.
You will love the ending! -

Quite an unusual comedy with a very weird lead character. Still there were lots of amusing scenes with a twist ending that made this film even more fun.

Cleverly shot, technically sound, but way too silly.
Most of the plot, dialogue and jokes are predictable and broadcast way in advance. My last watch/review was also a dark comedy, Just Buried, and this one reminds me what an average flick is and makes me appreciate that one all the more.
I guess a good analogy is, there isn't enough "bang for the buck." There isn't enough return for all the liberties and steps they took with the storyline. They'd have been better off going a bit more extreme if nothing was going to come as a surprise.
I'm surprised by the high ratings this movie is getting here and elsewhere. Is there a fanboy appeal in one of the characters from some other show/movie? I just don't get it.
This isn't a BAD movie, but most of it's success comes from the creative filming and the story leaves a lot to be desired. -

This is a hilarious movie! A very lovely and fun dark comedy. Low-budget but enjoyable, and any fan of the Stargate TV show will appreciate the cast all the more.

David Hewlett shows his mastery of comedy in this small budget movie he created with the help of his friends (cast and crew of Stargate franchise). His comic timing is brilliant as is his equally brilliant sister (who plays his sister) and my personal favorite-Paul McGillion in a triple role! :) Everything is funny and Mars, the dog even has great timing.

I have never seen anything like it before. Hewlett is a genius, he is the best ever at playing funny crazy.
making dark comedy like this isn't easy but he pulls it of so gooooood
if you like something original, something crazy, something dark and above all something most spectacularly made.... you've got to see it -

Paul McGillion and David Hewlett are awesome in this film! It's hilarious... in a weird sort of way. Very enjoyable, with a slightly stupid ending.

David Hewlett's directorial debut, a clever dark comedy. Even having guessed the ending (movie ruiner that I am), I enjoyed it thoroughly, and could not stop laughing.

Loved it, purely because i love SGA, this has the same weird scenes and eery feelings as the cube and nothing. but its actually pretty funny in parts, considering its low budget i thought they did a pretty good job. the scene with the dog and the toothbrush always makes me wanna wash my mouth out. i mean i have a dog but....no just... no

I didn't realize it at first, but David Hewlett's film ressembles an horror film he starred in called Pin. It's like its comedic counterpart: a weirdo guy lives in his deceased parents house, he dislikes his sister's boyfriend and eventually kills him. There's even a human-size puppet like in Pin... A clever low-budget canadian comedy.

As with most comedies, it depends on your sense of humor. This was clever and somewhat funny, but not really my thing.

This was a great movie and I love that it was done by most of the cast of Stargate.

Interesting to see all these Stargate people in a (non-Stargate) movie. Unfortunately, the story isn't very good, and it isn't very funny either. Might be worth a watch if you can't get enough of Stargate and everything related.

This is such a funny movie and well worth the long wait for it. I loved it. It was very side splitting. This just confirms it for me what a talented actor and now director David is. I cannot say enough about it. This is a must see and a must own movie. I loved it.

While this isn't the funniest movie I've ever seen, it does have its comedic moments that make up for some of the more cringeworthy ones. The acting is pretty entertaining as well (even if David Hewlett seems to be playing a dumber, slightly more neurotic--if that's possible--version of his character on Stargate: Atlantis). It's definitely enjoyable to watch David and Kate Hewlett together, not to mention Christopher Judge. I'll admit, though, that if not exactly disappointed, I was slightly underwhelmed. The film drags in places, even clocking in at less than 90 minutes almost as if the premise isn't quite enough to keep it going. I can't help but feel that much of the first half could've been condensed, given how much better the second half actually is once they quit beating around the bush, or spent with minutes upon minutes of Starcrossed because Rachel Luttrell is brilliant and awesome and the bits shown of that were fantastic, easily my favorite.
