November 12, 2008Funny, but kinda out there at some parts. Sellers and Niven are always a pleasure and Andress is nice compliment to them! Cast was great, story lacked though.
-
October 31, 2008A funny satire and a handsome and complete cast, but what really made it work for me was the genius Woody Allen. He's on screen perhaps for 10 minutes, and those are the funniest part you'll get!
-
October 30, 2008A fascinating car crash of a film, with star faces littered throughout. Still very very funny though.
-
October 17, 2008One of two movies produced outside the Eon franchise (the other being 1983's Never Say Never Again), this spoof of the Bond series is still entertaining enough
-
September 30, 2008Silly and wildly inconsistent James Bond spoof has a lot of funny bits, but definitely goes on too long. The finale is outrageously delightful however, as is Peter Sellers' role.
-
July 19, 2008Like "Benny Hill" on crack. This movie has its moments, funny moments, with some classic "Sellers-like" scenes, but these are interspersed between a plethora of ineffective, stupid attempts at humor. Movies like "Airplane" and "Austin Powers" captured the spirit of this genre much more effectively.
-
July 18, 2008Okay, this was pretty original, and very funny!! Even though it kinda mocks the James Bond franchise, this an excellent Bond film! Crazy! Ursula Andress is phenomenal (and hawt!) :)
-
July 5, 2008This movie has a bad rep, but the James Bond series can never have enough satiric skewering. Woody Allen, Peter Sellers, and David Niven among countless others make this movie odd and surprisingly funny.
-
June 16, 2008This is a spoof of the James Bond series and a spoof of 1960s filme in general.
It's also one of the many movies to star Peter Sellers and David Niven. -
June 6, 2008I love this movie! This Casino Royale is far superior to the lame Daniel Craig Bond movie on so many levels. It boasts a great ensemble cast and a superb soundtrack/score. The story is so funny and zany and it has so many memorably funny scenes. The ending is for me one of my fav endings in any movie.
-
May 9, 2008A stupid parody of the Bond movies with an all-star cast. Barbara Bouchet is the loveliest Miss Moneypenny ever!
-
March 30, 2008really confusing... i hated this movie and i had to watch it at least a million times. the worst James Bond movie ever;but then its a spoof.
-
February 11, 2008A very odd and very long film, and with too many ingredients. How did they get all these famous actors to be in this "soup" and some of them for only a glimpse? But thanks to Peter Sellers and David Niven, it was funny in some scenes!
-
No rating.February 8, 2008
well i think this is also a good movie, and i wanna watch it.. ive already watched the casino royale 2008 :)
-
January 28, 2008We expected the "original Casino Royale". What a disastrous mistake!
We were not prepared for a parody like this . Not in the least. It is impossible to even try and tell the plot of this confusing chaos with this special kind of humor. (Is this humor?) No question where inspiration for Austin Powers came from, anyway. Nominated for Oscar? I can't believe it!
But I have to admit: After some time, it was sort of fun.
You should consider to drink a lot of Martini before watching! -
January 18, 2008Incredible movie. Artwork was imaginative, as if the whole crew was on acid or something... Peter Sellers was a blast. Orson Welles was a master at anything he did, be it acting or directing. There's no other hunkydory director like John Huston. And Joanna Pettet was the first woman in a movie I fell in love with as a kid. And Ursula, well, what can a boy say? Not to mention some of the others. Sir David Niven? Well, he certainly deserved his title. What a cast of people, what a movie indeed. Get actors like these in a contemporary Bond-movie and you've got a seller!!!
-
January 14, 2008Very interesting. We look at the today's title with the latest James Bond and would not guess the origonal had actors like Peter Sellers and Orson Welles and it was a complete spoof.
It was wierd, yet interesting... -
January 8, 2008In an early spy spoof, aging Sir James Bond (David Niven) comes out of retirement to take on SMERSH.
-
January 7, 2008a totally 60s movie filled with bizarre, random comedy and a complicated plot. this is the James Bond spoof BEFORE Austin Powers. great performances from Peter Sellers, Woody Allen, and David Niven. a comedic taste that takes some getting used to, but still a good film.
-
January 1, 2008A funny comedy ,such a contrast with the modern Casino royale with daniel craig. Ursula Andress is beautiful!
-
December 30, 20071960s spoof of the Bond series, should be good, but the Carry-On style humour just doesn't work for me.
-
November 28, 2007THIS IS A SUPER COOL SPOOF ON THE BOND FILMS. IT'S KINDA FUNNY THAT IT IS PRETTY MUCH THE MAIN PLOT FOR, POTENTIALLY ON OF THE GREATEST BOND MOVIES EVER, OF THE SAME NAME.
-
October 21, 2007love to see it for the cast but awful. even the campy sets and feel dont save it. but woody allan as bond? gotta love it
-
September 18, 2007Quite possibly one of the most pointless movies of all time! I managed to sit through it, but only because I couldn't believe such a great cast of characters could produce something so bad.
-
August 15, 2007A completely mental film. I only saw about half of it, but it was still brilliantly funny. No matter how daft and weird it was.
-
August 9, 2007casino royale is the original bond novel, but it is almost nothing like this movie which happens to be an unfunny spoof. even die hard bond fans will find it hard to digest.
-
August 7, 2007This is a complete mess. Not even a scrap of a coherent story anywhere to be found. Highly expensive but to absolutely no end whatsoever.
-
July 13, 2007This movie was great. It's the first spy spoof out. There are a lot of over the top scenes, but it's a very fun movie to watch. Kind of gave me the feel of Austin Powers meets the Pink Panther.
The DVD also contains the first Casino Royale movie made in the 1950s for TV. -
June 13, 2007the plot gets a bit confused (not surpriseing wit hso many directors) but its still, easily, the least mock-able bond film
-
June 4, 2007That was so f.....g funny ! You must see it if you've seen tne new one.
Just for Belmondo in the last seconds... or Woody Allen as crazy as he can be. -
May 29, 2007While lacking much sense and much of a story, this film is still an intriguing little gem to check out. Peter Sellers, Woody Allen and David Niven line up this first James Bond film that seems to be the visual inspiration for "Austin Powers." Also, don't miss a cameo by the great Orson Welles in the casino!
-
May 4, 2007If you like spoofs and James Bond, and campy 60s style, this IS the movie for you! I much prefer this then the remake any day!. James Bond is forced out of retirement to foil the new organization SMESH (lead by Woody Allen). Along the way, its decided to give the aging Bond a new replacement or two, or a few hundred as you will see in the final fight scene.
As the movie progresses it just more sillier by the minute, to the point you have the Keystone Cops, and Parachuting Indians landing to fight at Casino Royal! -
May 2, 2007Possiblythe most insane spoof ever, with five director, numerous big stars, and a plot that totally disappears halfway through the film. The David Niven segments are pretty funny, some of the Peter Sellers stuff works, and you won't get Herb Alpert's theme out of your head for weeks afterward.
-
May 1, 2007An entertaining parody of the Bond films, this movie isn't for the fans of immature humour. The film has aged well and is still very entertaining.
-
May 1, 2007A classic. A great and very funny movie with almost nothing to do with James Bond. David Niven is great, Ursula Andrews is stunning, Woody Allen is hilarious and Orson Wells is, well, Orson Wells.
-
April 27, 2007Look up "fiasco" in the dictionary, and you'll find a picutre of this film's DVD box cover. Five directors, at least four James Bonds, a ridiculously huge budget for the time and more LSD than you can count... it should have been so much more fun than the laboured, lumbering, incoherent mess it finished up being.
-
April 20, 2007I had to comment on this as flixter has recommended it to me. Please for the love of all that is good in the world avoid this. 80% of users think this film is "similar" to the Daniel Craig film, must mean that 80% of users have not seen this film and only see the title as a similarity. This film is complete nonsense and not in a good way!!!!
-
April 14, 2007This is jst a lol film, comnpltely taking the pis over bond films, like an early austin powers gotta see
-
April 8, 2007Hmmmmm. Its a good action film but it isnt a bond film. I just didn't like it as much as i liked the others.
-
April 8, 2007Holy shit, is this movie a pointless, unfunny, indulgent ordeal. Makes the Austin Powers movies look like models of comedic magnificence.
-
April 4, 2007Graciosa, aunque ya se nota un poco envejecida, pero no deja de ser una joya nostalgica, sobre todo ver a un joven woody allen haciendo el papel de jimmy bond y despues de super villano dr. noah
-
March 26, 2007A bit bonkers this one, a hit and miss spoof of James Bond. Woody Allen is the standout in a rather lacklustre cast.
-
March 18, 2007This is a spoof of the James Bond Movies, that shows a now aging James Bond called back into the service of MI6..To help the agency from an inflitration with the help of many new agents and and many new villians..this is not a James Bond Movie though even though the character is ..
-
March 18, 2007This movie is the reason why I really, REALLY want to see Daniel Craig's version. (As you can see by my rating, I didn't like it at all.)
-
March 17, 2007This is poor. Very poor, and what's worse is that it shouldn't have been. It was all there, on a plate, ready to be taken: the rights to use Ian Flemming's first James Bond novel, Casino Royale as the pretext for a 007 spoof; comedy geniuses Peter Sellers and Woody Allen on board; celebrated actors such as David Niven and Orson Welles supporting; and even Ursula Andress herself making an appearence. All this at a time when 007 was at the height of his popularity. So what went wrong? With multiple directors the whole thing is devoid of any consistancy and is frighteningly awkward to watch. Also, it would also appear that with all this going on, they forgot to put any actual jokes in the damned thing...
-
March 15, 2007now this one.. i never did watch, i watched a bit it was boring as hell but mm should watch to the end sometime hehe
-
March 2, 2007Bizzare, fragmented, and absurd. A schizofrenic, rambling excuse for a plot... and as a satire, it works beautifully. A simple delight to watch, and given its broad (or rather, totally erratic) range of humor, there is likely to be at least some humor that fits your tastes. Just don't try to appreciate its finer, subtle points.
-
February 27, 2007I can boldly say that if it's calssified as one of the 007 series/sequels' - it is the weirdest, by far. You'll know what I mean if and when you watch it.
-
February 4, 2007Rather poor bond addition. As a comedy it may cut it but the portrayal in this film is just too .... weird/kitsch.
-
January 27, 2007An all time classic spoof. I love Peter Sellers as Evelyn Tremble as James bond. An all time funny Woody Allen line..."You can't shoot me! I have a very low threshold of death. My doctor says I can't have bullets enter my body at any time." Joanna Pettet is yummy.
-
January 25, 2007Woody Allen actually gets a credit for a Bond film and the remake was more in keeping with the Bond genre versus this light hearted version
-
January 23, 2007I've heard almost nothing about it, but at least this isn't a remake of a spoof, marketed as the real thing.
-
January 15, 2007aga not really in2 owt like dis but i love it altho its on 4 a bit 3hrs i think but gd enjoyin watchin dat 2 chris :P
-
January 3, 2007Haven't finished it all the way yet (about 2/3 through now) and I'm finding it a bit blah actually... it's not that funny (for a spoof) and I'm struggling to get into it...
-
January 2, 2007Holy powered milk batman this has to be the shittest movie I have ever seen... how trippy can a movie be ? If you want the answer watch this movie !!! You'll be amazed I can't believe paid £2 for it.
-
December 16, 2006great! i loved it! touch to much blood and guts but apart from all the squirming in my seat i loved it!!
-
December 4, 2006Did I ever mention how badly I wanted Peter Sellers? Well, here's my chance. This film is quite bland in the first half hour or so, but once Evelyn Tremble enters the picture it is one of the most hilarious movies I have ever seen. For once I can actually credit a spoof with more than one star! It also has at least five famous actors, which is not what one might expect. Austin Powers must get all its inspiration from this movie, the difference being that Peter Sellers can kick Mike Meyers ass anytime.
-
November 23, 2006Not quite as dreadful as I had heard, but not terribly far off, Casino Royale depicts the Bond saga as a freewheeling spy epic with several 007s. Though the quickfire comedy is sometimes bang-on in its lampoonery (is that a word?), or times it is simply trite (a pricless wig referred to as an 'hairloom' - painful). In this regard, it suffers many of the ignominities of the standard bawdy 60s sex comedy, granting the same kind of titillation and mirth as a saucy British postcard. A shame really, as the cast is normally highly commendale. Woody is wasted on a slapsticky part sans his usual intellectual wit (and therefore charm), and Niven seems a million miles away throughout. Some grace is given in Sellers' segments, his comedic genius given time to shine in all of his segments (plus his parts feature the sumptous 'The Look Of Love'). Orson Welles also aquits himself as the gambler Le Chiffre, but suffers from a terribly blunt death scene. Overall, not a disaster, but unjustifiably long and meandering.
-
November 20, 2006If you're going in to this trying to compare it to the new Casino Royale, don't. I'd compare it more to the Austin Powers films or In Like Flint, but still entertaining nonetheless.
-
November 19, 2006The last half hour was over-the-top psychadelic randomness... the rest of the film was just long and boring.
-
November 19, 2006Well this version of casino royal is a comedy and isnt to good but the new one thats in theatres is great.
-
October 19, 2006I'm a big Bond fan, so didn't see how this could be THAT bad. It actually, really really is. I switched off around the time Woody Allen joins in the 'hilarity'. Awful.
-
October 6, 2006So many parodies of james bond, this is the best. Great flick, would definitely recommend to all!!!!
-
August 13, 2006Though I really loved the 60's absurdity of it all, I think I liked this movie thanks to the incredibly talented cast than the movie itself. It lacked continuity, it was easy to get mixed-up. Great music by Burt Bacharach.
-
July 29, 2006a crazy movy, parody of James Bond with Peter Sellers in the leading role as the antic-climax of a British secret agent
-
July 8, 2006Probably the worst of the series. But then again it isn't part of the real 007 series. Can't wait for the real Casino Royale to come out.
-
June 15, 2006Very cool film and one of the first Bond film. Peter Sellers is great in it, as is woody allen. Check it out, since there's another version coming out soon.
