August 19, 2008seen this a while ago it was a good performance by pink but not the best film it shouldof been released in the cineman tho, there was a lot of boring bits in between which seemed to drag it out and the ending was certainly not expected! haha! hope this is the first of many for pink <3

August 14, 2008Loved it! especially the ending. First when she found out what they had done, I just thought: oh, nice, how could they?! Her own sister! What happend next was just fantastic. I will not tell you how it ended, though. But I LOVED the ending:)

August 10, 2008This is a classic example of what I call "a great idea done badly". This had such potential for being an interesting and unique film - and certainly there were elements that gave it plenty of opportunity to do so - yet it failed to execute. Alecia Moore (Pink) I must say was a pleasant surprise - certainly a good role for her, and quite frankly I felt she upstaged Sossamon in the lead... I would've much preferred Moore's character to have had thelead role and think this could've helped generate a different feel to the story, albeit not necessarily a better movie.
I'd recommend this for people who can keep an open mind, who can watch this simply to get an insight into the potential that this film had. -
August 2, 2008I can't believe how badly this movie messed itself up. The idea of setting a horror film in the Paris catacombs is fantastic, and yet this movie manages to completely avoid milking their potential. It sets itself up to be a slasher flick (which was surprising in itself - I was expecting ghosts or subterranean monsters), but then completely ditches its villain and proceeds to follow the heroine as she runs around in the dark for an hour, mostly by herself, and does a lot of nothing. It's long, it's boring, and the "twist" ending is, while mildly entertaining, not worth the effort of making it through the movie.

a really great movie.. I liked how they filmed the movie... in the catacombs... in the dampness and in the unspoken land of the dead.. I love the twist at the end... then to make it even better... a double twist :D

July 17, 2008OK, so I didn't expect much out of this film. Take that statement and my rating and you will see if this is worth your time or not.
Catacombs is marketed as a horror/suspense. I guess this movie fits into that category, but ... it is somewhat different. The plot is empty. I don't know what else to say about it. The first 30 minutes is crap. You have the two main characters getting ready for a party and then actually going to that party. At one point during this time, one of the many small characters gives a 1 minute spiel that sets up the next hour of the movie. It is stupid and bland, but it does its job.
The last 5-10 minutes is the best part of the film. So, what takes place in the 50 minutes before that. Running. Shannyn Sossamon has this film all to herself. Nothing exciting. Just running. At least this all happens in the catacombs, which makes the title appropriate. I guess the good thing about the film taking place down there is that it is dark and because of this the lighting effects and shots are pretty good.
You will probably hear a bunch of people praise the ending. Half of it is predictable, while the other half isn't. It is the unpredictable half that everybody will hint at and I have to admit, it is unexpected. Is it worth watching this movie for? I think not. Then again, that is for you to decide.
The acting isn't award winning. There are 2 big names in this film. Shannyn Sossamon and Alecia Moore (Pink). Everybody else is forgettable. Shannyn does a pretty good job at screaming, crying, and whatever else it takes to be in a movie like this. Running around in a dress the whole time doesn't hurt either. Pink actually does a decent job with her character, but unfortunately she doesn't do much.
This film isn't scary, but it is suspenseful. Unless you are a huge fan of these types of movies or Shannyn Sossamon, stay away from this.

You thinks this movies going to be really shit & heres why set in Paris & no names in cast except for P!nk whos a singer not an actor! But it bloody brilliant & the ending is wicked not ur normal looney ending or point obvious!! So be open minded for once & go rent this movie i give it 2 thumbs up!

Yeah, can we say crap? I can't believe I wasted an hour and a half on this horrible movie...time I can never get back! I thought since it was by the creator of Saw that it might be ok....oh I was so wrong. If you do end up renting this you can literally fast forward through the entire middle because all it is, is the main actress scared trying to find her way out of the catacombs. The beginning was boring and the end was just a tad ok....but not really. Rent with caution.

Truth be told it had a pretty good lesson, but this couldve been made a lot shorter. It reminded me of another annoying movie called "creep". It doesnt share the same plot but all that running and panic! panic! panic mode really irritated me, it lacked so many elements. At some point I was wondering if I should just watch another movie, but continued anyway thinking that there might be something worth watching about it. Well.. I was suprised that Pink could actually act. It wasnt an award winning performance but she was actually pretty good.... Or maybe she fitted the role really well cuz it was so close to her "stage persona" in the music industry.
There is something to get out of this tho, if youre the type who dreams about running all the time from something, maybe you should give this movie a shot. If you get bored just fast forward the running scenes, lol! -
May 19, 2008I couldn't stand to watch more than 5 minutes of this movie. It is so low budget that I wanted to cry. The "scary" special effects with the lighting was just plain stupid. Plus, within the first chapter you know that everyone is going to die so why would you waste your time watching the stupid thing?

I've been having a "straight day" and wanted to see the Shannyn Sossamon in Catacombs. I can't help it, I'll see her in anything.
Although I do think this film is very creepy, the key to enjoying it is keeping expectations low.
The whole premise of the film is really ridiculous and, yes, as you might read in other reviews, the ending is cringe-worthy.
Try to disregard the end, and you may well enjoy it. And Pink has a small part too. -

At first i was extremely interested to see what a horror would like to have PINK in it. However as soon as the film started, i knew i wasnt going to like it.
And it wasn't just PINk that made this suck, the majority of the film consists of this chick screaming her head off, running around tunnels like a blind mouse. So what if it's realistic... its not entertainment...or scary for that matter.
And the film doesn't redeem itself towards the end either...not even the "Twist"....which i didnt see coming...but not in a good way, it just made me loathe the film so much more. -

There was potential there, and personally I rather liked the twist (if only because I hated all the other characters, particularly the sister, almost as if they were real people) but all the running in dark tunnels has been done to death before - Creep, The Descent, The Cave....
But at least you can get a laugh out of Sossamon's pronunciation of 'Henri' as 'Henry'. That was grating and awful. -

It's been a while since I've actually willed a movie to please end, but I seriously did with this one! The only decent part of the film was the end after the monotony of the whole f**king thing!! I'd have killed all those bastards myself after what she went through! There is only so much running/chasing/screaming to fill a whole film you can have before you want to put your head through your TV set. The acting was good, and the plot could have been good, but that doesn't make up for a bad film! You want tunnels and darkness and gore? Watch The Descent or Creep. Don't put yourself through this bile of a movie...

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC MOVIE!! Intriguing story plot that has a bit of Hitchcock element. A sick prank gone horribly wrong, but the conclusion is what's surprising. The internal fear that captivates Victoria, and suspends her in that hysterical state is what most horror films are made of. Despite slasher films, the blood shed is not necessary in this because all the suspense is within the state of the mind, as in Victoria's case.
Surprisingly, with Shannyn Sossamon and Pink in a film like this. Although they are both new to the horror flick world, it's quite interesting. Well just see it for yourself. -

It could have been (and should have been) so much better. Set among the underground catacombs of France, it should have at least been able to create a creepy claustrophobic atmosphere (like THE DESCENT), but it fails to generate any suspense or scares. And the twist ending just came off as ridiculous to me. In fact most of these types of horror films with the tacked on twist endings are just becoming too cliched now. Oh yeah, this was made by the producers of the SAW films.

This is one of those films where the cover looked cool and I thought what the hell I'll give it a try. When I brought it home and realized Shannyn Sossamon was in it I thought damn it I hate her. Still I had rented the film so I was determined to watch it.
The writer/director really tries to mess with your head on this one but in my opinion fails miserably. It had the potential to be really good but it relied on too many "boo" type of scares for it to be taken seriously.
Throughout the entire movie you follow the protagnoist in the claustrophobic setting of the catacombs. I think this could have been a good film but I just didn't care about the characters and I thought it was predictable. The entire movie is building up to a big twist in the end which is easily spotted from a mile away.
But just to show that I'm not entirely negative I do have one good thing to say about this film.. it was under two hours long. -

I liked this horror very much. I didn't like the lighting, but it was suppose to be like that since they were mostly underground. The movie kept me on edge and the finale had an awesome twist.

What a complete waste of an hour and a half of my life. The concept has been done before so much better, the acting from Pink and others was pathetic and how Sassomon didnt win the 'Most unconvincingly scared actress' award I will bever know. Based on a true story! Yeah right.

huuum this film is very very simple, not much to it. its one them horrors you just know what going to happen as soon as it started. you know her friends are going to be behind it and shes the one whos going to kill them as revenge (specially as she said so in the first line of the film). there was some nice gore scenes. i liked the bike spokes going into her anckle very squemish scene. but shannyns performance was terrable it was just like she wasnt bothered in this film. scene much better performance from her. and pink ok looked hot but was hoping to see her get naked in this film but no just her dead. i guess watch this film if theres nothing else on but can give this a miss...

just reading someone elses description.... "like cinematic pac-man" hahaha. give that man a medal! i wondered who that fit bird was when i was watching it..... it's PINK! well she does look rather fit in her videos. thats when you press the "mute" button on the remote coz the music's shite and watch her frolic about half naked while you've got megadeth on thrashing away on the cd player.... and then you can get down off of the cd player! it started off really bad and got better the further you watched. i do think it's worth the watch because the whole feel of isolation is unnerving enough to keep your interest very much fixed on the screen!

The last minute reveals of the film don't really save it, but it did muster an extra star from my jaded heart.
The movie is boring for the middle thirty+ minutes, which is pretty unforgivable for what should be a tense horror film based on the set up.

Not the best film put out by Lions Gate, but not the worst. Twisted ending, not sure it will find its way into my collection. In a 4 movie Marathon might want to play this second or third, as you will lost peoples interest along the way.

It was mainly the trailer's mixture of darkness, claustrophobia, and Shannyn Sossamon that drew me to this film. However, this combination alone is not enough to hold it together. It started out with a decent beginning, but got extremely repetitive throughout the entire midsection. But the ending absolutely saved the film. It's wonderfully satisfying, and it makes the slight entertainment salvaged from the previous hour and fourty minutes quite worth the wait.

Well where to start. Throughout the movie I had the deja vu feeling, thinking I've seen this 100 times before...The idea was really good just not so well performed. Sorry to say Pink sucked and somehow you can see the ending coming. It was somewhat entertaining but I actually wouldn't recommend it.

This movie is "Pinks" first major role......she did......okaaaay i guess, it was pretty much her playing herself so it wasn't really a stretch or anything. I think if it actually came to her playing a proper character though, she'd flop pretty hard.
Anyway, the movie itself was rather shit.......starts off pretty badly, looks a bit cheap, has lame scares ect. ect.........the storyline DOES get a little interesting during the middle section though, the setting is kinda creepy and we see Shannon's character get into some bad situations.....i found myself actually wanting to see what happened next.
Sadly, it all goes up in smoke again once the ending is revealed........it was one of the worst ending i've ever seen, made NO fucking sense and just came out of nowhere. What was meant to be an "edge of your seat" finale wound up being a really fucking stupid idea........it just kinda leaves you thinking "what?.....why?".
I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a REALLY bad movie, but it is kinda crappy, VERY b grade, mediocre acting, not really scary.........just very VERY average with a fuck awful ending. It's cinema release date has been moved to 2008 [it was already released in France this year], i can see this getting slaughtered by the critics, lol.

Claustrophobic and dark movie, almost interely set in the catacombs under Paris. The shy Victoria (Shannyn Sossamon) and her hyperactive sister (Pink) go to a rave party in the catacombs, but they will be hunted by a creature. A tasteless plot is partially saved by a good and surprising ending. The beauty of the main actresses saves the day.
