They've become zombies, stalking endlessly in a quest to feed on the flesh and blood of the few remaining living. A ragtag group of desperate survivors in a Wisconsin town seek refuge in a large indoor mall, where they must learn not only to protect themselves from the ever-increasing zombie horde, but also to co-exist with each other as a last bastion of humanity. Sealed off from the rest of what used to be the world, the group uses every available resource, in their against-all-odds fight, to remain alive and human. |

A lot of people dislike this remake from what I read, but I personally love it. I will say that I haven't completely seen the original. It's a great movie, and one of my top favorite zombie films.

More than simple scenes of zombie's extermination ,it's a real questioning about our social relationships and identity... weird!!!

I did not like the beginning because it was too freaky for my taste. But when it leaned more to the violent side of things instead of the creepy side then I liked it much better. Zombie killing looks fun :P
I woulda given it 4 stars but there were two unneeded scenes with nudity that i disapproved of. -

Having loved the original classic Dawn of the Dead (1979) I was horrified to learn that big old Hollywood were going to be remaking it.
I missed the cinema release and never purchased the DVD, only managing to catch this via cable TV.
This film is really good, bigger than a possible cult status to back up my review. The re envisioning of the original really is something not to be missed by Zombie enthusiasts alike, aside from element changes such as the Zombies ability to run.
I was enthralled throughout this film and couldn't think of a bad thing to say aside from the obvious changes to plot and ability from the main enemies of the apocalyptic world. -

This flick posed the usual necessary dose of gore for the zombie genre.
The plot (although a remake) is rewarding and the challenges believable.
I like the cast of a completely non-compatible bunch. The dog and prick are the best for variety. Besides the prick added a nice prick zest compliments of his video and film selection.
Loving end-of-days horror tragedies, this movie rounded out my evening so I could have a good night's rest. -

Of the Zombie movies this I would rate as the second best after Resident Evil!!

Just crap. A completely lesser being, devoid of anything human. The characters spend the entire movie trying to look bad ass. The film making is pretentious, the acting is horrible and they deface the original. It is no different than any other bland horror movie that comes out.

This movie had the right amount of scary and comic relief. Two things I enjoy in movies.

Dawn of the Dead was gory and disturbing but the classic was better with scares. B: Good.

A brilliant modern day zombie film. Not seen the original yet, but this has the same appeal as 28 days later. A great cast, modern take on the genre with good gory effects. Well worth checking out.

Not bad for a zombie movie. Not bad at all. Best scene was the shooting from the roof scene. Jay Leno, Rossie O'donnell, Burt Reynolds! Funny.

I love zombie movies, because first of all I like to see them die and second of all they are so funny with their stupid zombie brain haha!
This one started straight away with the zombie madness instead of making a longer 'peaceful' intro and I actually liked that. The make up was good, so were the effects as in zombie-head-gets-blown-off and other die-zombies scenes.
I loved it! -

Very good horror movie. For the most part it avoids falling into the typical horror movie traps i.e. filled with characters lacking any common sense or logic before they make decisions, again for the most part.

A very good rehash of a classic.

How can you not love it? If you picked it you have to know it's a zombie flick, so therefore you have to love it.
-
October 28, 2009
Pretty good as far as remakes go but I still prefer George A. Romero´s original 1978 film.
-
October 27, 2009
lame, when in the world did zombies learn to run?

FANTASITC! I realize that this isn't the original, but who ever said that ALL remakes were horrible? Lol

I still haven't seen the original, but for a normal remake ? This was real good.
The cast was really convincing, and some trick camera works did an amazing job of delivering that creepy feeling to the viewer, especially at the beginning of the movie. That's not a horror movie as much as it is an action movie though, but the unease atmosphere was always there. Once you begin watching this movie, there's no way you will even think of stopping it. But come again, why remaking a film that is so highly praised and near perfection ? And to my knowledge.......Zombies are usually seen as reaaaaal slow creatures. These freaking things were running for god's sake ! :-) -
October 24, 2009
best zombie film ever released, but not any where close to hot fuzz. !!
-

Memorable. Comic, in many ways. Particularly the scene where the protagonists are holed up in the shopping mall. Enjoyable nonetheless.

October 14, 2009
Good zombie flick, although I prefer zomedies myself. The acting was decent, the storyline was good, reminiscent of the original classic but with a few twists, the gore level was high but not overdone. The make-up artists did a nice job with the zombies. One of the best horror re-makes to ever come out.
-
October 13, 2009
A great apocalypse survival story with moments of great pop culture satire.
I would crap my pants if I had to face these zombies, its far more terrifying having a living corpse sprinting at you in hunger rather than just slowly struggling about.
Its one of the greatest movie remakes ever. -
October 11, 2009
A solid remake. Though Romero's is still a classic, Snyder definitely held his own. Didn't disappoint.
-
October 9, 2009
A totally different approach from Romero's classic. But Zach Snyder is one of many promising young filmmakers that rarely disappoints. He uses a totally visionary style that captivates the viewers and grabs them by the throat. Watch Ving Rhames's stellar performance if for any reason at all.

this movie is like Coke 2 .. it may have fast running zombies , flashy effects , modern soundtrack, shakey camera work and no blue faced zombies.. but it will NEVER BE COKE CLASSIC !!!
it kills me that younger horror fans prefer this one over the original..this movie does have some moments i did like but it felt empty devoid of any social commentary like the romero original.. plus it lacks heart.
also missing is the masterful Goblin soundtrack and brilliant special effects from tom savini ..
i think as a run of the mill horror movie it's not bad.. but after repeated viewings of this film im finding that i dislike this movie more and more .. hence how my ratings from 4 stars went to 1 and half stars
