Hair is a 1979 film adaptation of the 1968 Broadway musical of the same title about a Vietnam war draftee who meets and befriends a tribe of long-haired hippies on his way to the army induction center. The hippies introduce him to their environment of marijuana, LSD, and unorthodox relationships.

The story is mythic and rather good but the film itself is mostly held together by the charisma of Treat Williams. A lot of wtf moments and it wanders dangerously close to not quite working. The music I won't comment on as I find music often gets better the more familiar you are with it and I'm not familiar with the majority of the songs aside from the well known ones.

From the beginning this movie tells you, "There will be a lot of singing." If you don't like musicals, you may still like this movie. Hippies get hold of a straight walker named Claude and form a relationship that includes every viewer. So much personality pours from the screen. Geenie, played by Annie Golden, is a sweet, "innocent," and delightful character, and Berger, played by Treat Williams, demands the stage with his thick eyebrows and savage sex-appeal. Claude wins over the crowd immidiately; his monotone and pensive demeanor command a respect as well as adoration, although he does have a jouvinile and innocent quality to him, like that of a younger sibling or someone to be protected. Peace, love, and happiness is the message of this group of misfits, and all seems as such until things get really real really fast when the friends go to visit Claude on base. A recommened see.

good story line, well choreographed dances, very good production numbers but the songs do not have much appeal to me.

I'm only 30 yrs late in seeing this for the first time, but I think it's probably more hysterical now than it would've been back then. The cast was a special treat since so many of them went on to have successful careers afterward. The clothes and hair were also stars in their own right. The music and lyrics are so unique I wouldn't know what to them compare to, but I do know that it all was fantastic.

The Broadway musical brought to the big screen, brought to DVD, It is a delight ful memory for us who were flower children. the music is still fresh as can be.treat williams is perfect as Berger, John Savage makes me believe he is Claude Bukowsky.

Do you know what would have been even better than seeing a hippie musical? Seeing everyone involved in said musical beaten to death with clubs. Their screams would've been a lot more enjoyable than that god awful music.

I should be there...

LOVED this movie; the songs were amazing! And I loved how you really got a glimpse of the world of the happiest people that ever existed! I mean hippies in general. You get to see that freedom they had in life, and this movie makes you want it badly, too. The story line is funny, intense, and sad. Really great movie.

Uma história genial, com detalhes sensíveis. Uma forma de mostrar que não é preciso ser rico ou influente para viver. Um filme que até hj guia o meu senso de liberdade.
