Typical. Haves oppressing the have-nots. I would'nt have went anywhere. Let them stand and face themselves.

A favorite of mine. I first became a fan of Sam Rockwell in this film, and a young Mischa Barton did a really good job, it's actually strange seeing her so young as i've never really seen any of her films she did before The O.C. I loved the friendship between Trent and Devon, even though the neighbourhood found it strange that a 21 year old guy only wanted to be friends with a 10 year old girl. OK, i'll admit that is quite strange and you don't immediately think it's all an innocent friendship, but it was just that, an innocent friendship. It's a shame he was driven out of town in the end. I loved this film and i reccomend it to everyone.

A really sweet film, Rockwell and a very young Barton are brilliant. Only cheap visual effects towards the end of the film let it down.

A young girls fairy tale dream comes alive as she travels through her life with a friend whom is much older then her. This is an amazing tale of a young girls imagination.

A standout performance from S am Rockwell and a nice little whimsical ending but the movie feels strangely familiar!

A very sweet film that certainly drew me in and fired my emotions to the point where I felt genuine anger towards the bigoted residents of Camelot Gardens and the security guard who was a traitor to his class. All my sympathy, however, went to Trent, with very little left for the ten year old Devon. This was largely due to an absolutely stunning and moving performance from the brilliant and under-rated Rockwell. That said, Barton's performance wasn't bad either - the character was just far too precocious to be sympathetic. I also felt the attempts at Burton-esque magic realism jarred a little bit throughout the film.

This strange but compeling story had me hooked from the start. A good performance by Sam Rockwell there is always an uncomfortable feeling as you watch the building relationship between the 21 year old gardner and his 10 year old counterpart. Innocent enough, their friendship is still suggested to be worse than the seedy goings on in this typical sub-urban reflection of perfect middle America. Definatly worth viewing

Extremely original movie chronicling the relationship between an older male living in a trailer park in a forest on the outskirts of town and a female child living in a gated community and all the stigmas attached to it. The child is absolutely insistent on wanting to visit and talk to the older guy. Her parents seem to be ignorant to EVERYTHING she is doing yet this older man tries to watch out for her and ensure her safety. They learn from each other. Who says they can't have a purely platonic relationship? Offbeat and quirky..I love!

Probably one of my top favourites of all times. Instant classic. True, non-negotiable, full of magic and surprises with one of the greatest endings ever. Sam Rockwell delivers another astounding performance in this no-budget, undisguised, lost-in-the-process-of-making-blockbusters masterpiece.

Adorable little film! Sam Rockwell proves himself to be, once again, one of the greatest actors of his generation! His Trent is the loser you learn to love, and his relationship with 10-year-old Devon is nothing but pure and innocent. Funny and dramatic - it's just right.

A very, very strange film. Controversial because of the overt sexual tension between Sam Rockwell and a 10-year old Mischa Barton. Convoluted because the plot is hard to follow. Confusing because the ending is complete fantasy, which normally wouldn't be a problem, but there was no hint of fantasy through the entire movie leading up to it. It just pops out of nowhere. A bit unnerving with Kathleen Quinlan's affair with the neighborhood pervert, who tries to molest Barton's character. Overall just a very odd movie with no redeeming social value whatsoever.

"There once was a boy who lived in a house, and the house sat under a tree. By the tree ran a fence that stretched far and wide 'round the Gated Community..."
And those immortal lyrics about sum up this film's titular character, a "Lawn Dog" who befriends a ten-year-old girl from the "Gated Community" where he mows lawns for a living.
The story that unfolds as a result is beautiful, touching, and oftentimes undeniably fun. -

Dazzling and Touching! Devon is a 10 yr old girl who does not fit in with girls around her own age. So she finds a new friend Trent. Trent mows the estate's lawns and their friendship evolves but its quite obvious the residents won't like it or think its cute. Saw it again about 2 days ago, and was very touched, better than I remembered it. Acting is top notch, characters music. Just when you think you know whats going to happen next, you get swept away by something you didn't see to happen. Like I said before "Dazzling."

This is a quirky little Canadian film, there's a lot of "storybook" charm in this otherwise rather dark comedy/drama, with the protagonists being the "outcasts" of society (the weird little kid, the lawnmower guy). It's really about people trying to find "belonging", understanding, love, and friendship...and also escaping the bullsh*t of the world we live in.
And "Lawn Dogs" has a great ending too! I'm glad I caught this on cable a long while back... -

This is a great flick. It makes us take a close look at our insane fear of men around our little girls. Every man is NOT a pedophile, some can just be that friend our daughters need when her world is weighing heavy. Keep an eye out for it.

John Duigan does a wonderful job of introducing strands and themes which at first seem offbeat and peculiar but which all add to the sense prejudice, division and isolation felt by these two brillaintly-wrought characters. Each find the other intriguing but are hesitant to become close because of others' values. Eventually they become friends and just as they accept this, the world around them turns on them and what started out as an irreverent comedy-drama, turns into something much darker and even terrifying. Sam Rockwell is one of those actors who, no matter what role he's playing, is totally natural. He's immediately likeable. Lawn Dogs is a refreshing sort of film. The relationship between Rockwell and Barton is heartwarming and broadly, gently natural.
