Subsequently, Nicholas, his sister and mother journey to London to live with their Uncle Ralph, whom they soon discover is wicked. Uncle Ralph plots demonic machinations to scatter them apart from each other. Nicholas is sent away to work as a teacher at a school run by a cruel headmaster named Wackford Squeers; however, he eventually runs away with one of his students, Smike, on a mission to protect his family. July 4, 2008A beautiful film based in the begin of the 90's. I love Charlie Hunnam as Nicholas Nickleby. The whole film has touched me, just only how Nicholas had so much love for his familly and Smike. I really loved it, who thought that Charie Hunnam would be that ligh-hearted, just beautiful! It was such a good story!

May 26, 2008Saw it awhile ago but just remembered it after seeing Hathaway in "Becoming Jane". I think Anne should avoid these types of films because she's much better in modern settings like "The Devil Wears Prada" ... or even comedies like "Ella Enchanted".

May 22, 2008I love the Charles Dickens movies, and this one is as good as any of them. The music score and acting is delightful.

February 24, 2008A very well-made adaptation which has some wonderful scenery. All the actors are great and it features Anne Hathaway of course, plus some dude from Hull!
-
January 23, 2008Love this one for the variety of wonderful character actors and their portrayals of interesting , strange and jolly characters. Not as dark as some dickens can get.

-
June 16, 2007I love LOVE LOVE this movie!!
It was based on the book by Charles Dickens, "Nicholas Nickleby", and it got turned into an amazing movie.
While not as in depth as Bleak House, Nicholas Nickleby is funny, touching, poignant, sad, and WONDERFUL.
i love how it mixes all the good parts of movies and makes it amazing, while still pertaining to the story plot line. I LOVE IT!!!!!! -
June 5, 2007A wonderful tale wherein you can take a liking to everyone - even the worst villain in the movie - before the end.
-
May 16, 2007Dicken's classic novel receives a new twist in this refreshing tale of the nineteen year old boy who's head of his family.
-
May 3, 2007What happens when... Oh, yeah, sorry, not my line. -_-' Great story of how a teenage boy deals with his father's passing and he and his family build a new family after and while they cried their tears. Defines what "family" really means, proving your family doesn't just mean the people with whom you share blood. Beautifully done!

April 19, 2007I'm not a big Dickens' fan, but I had read the book before the movie came out and now that I've seen it and its interpretation, I really like it. The costumes, the parallel of the dark side of Victorian life with the colorful, idyllic moments was well filmed. I shed tears for Smike in the book and I shed tears for Smike in the movie. Charlie Hunnam really brought Nicholas to life and the cast was great. Music was really nice, too.

April 12, 2007I actually really enjoyed this. Most reviews didn't give it very good press but it was an acceptable and entertaining adaptation. Obviously didn't include all of the intricacies of the novel but with Dickens that is never really possible and it didn't shy away from some of the less 'family friendly' sides of the story. It was amusing and touching in the right places. The cast was the best part; Jim Broadbent, Christophe Plummer, Anne Hathaway, Timothy Spall, Jamie Bell, Barry Humphries/ Dame Edna Everage - reading the credis at the end I spotted people I had no idea were in it (namely I have to admit I embarassingly didn't notice Christopher Plummer!!!). Speaking of cast, it has been irritating me since I watched it who played Mrs Lacreevy until I realised that it was Stella from Eastenders so I looked her up and she was also (so obvious when I see it)in Gosford Park, Emma and 4 weds and a funeral - now have new respect for her :)
[Also feel I must add that Charlie Hunnam who played Nicholas Nickleby is rather a hottie!) -
April 4, 2007Great film, sad/moving in parts but had a happy ending which made me happy lol and had a good cast. :)
-
February 20, 2007How did this get ignored by everyone? Was it straight to DVD or what?? It's a really good movie! Not too serious, as it probably should, but it's quite good.
-
February 17, 2007This is a great riches to somewhat rags story. There is a love story involved but it includes Anne Hathaway.
-

December 17, 2006I love this movie! It is like a movie you watch when your sad, and when it is over you feel really happy!
-
October 22, 2006This was such a good movie. I wished that I read the book before watching the movie, but I enjoyed this very much. It was such a beautiful story with some sadness. If you haven't watched this yet read the book first by Charles Dickens.
-
October 21, 2006A little too long, but great. The preformances are extraordinary, the story compelling and it will make you cry and laugh.
-
August 29, 2006Nicholas Nickleby is a work of art!! The best representation of Charles Dickens' classic! Charlie Hunnam was the perfect choice for the title role. Christopher Plummer was the best to play Uncle Ralph. And the story was moving, sentimental, and very good. I have seen it 5 times, and I cry every time.
-
August 17, 2006...i have not one thought, hope or wish connected with her; unless it be part of the picture i keep in my mind of one day being able to turn my back upon this accursed place, and never to think of it again with any feeling but loathing and disgust!
-
August 3, 2006This was a good movie...Charlie Hunnam is sexy..I like his mole..sizzle hehehe

June 29, 2006I really like this movie (: It has a wonderful cast and wonderful acting. Great jobs by Christopher Plummer, Alan Cumming, David Bradley, Timothy Spall, Romola Garai, Juliet Stevenson and Jamie Bell.
-
June 19, 2006Not a Dickens fan (nightmares from high school revived), but Charlie Hunnam and Anne Hathaway could make this good.
-
June 6, 2006These stories disgust me. I wrote a long diatribe on the depressing stories where the hot guys/girls get the girl/guy and the non-perfect ones die. Other than that... this movie dragged on pretty darn long. I'm not ready to watch this again any time soon. But it was fine for one short viewing. I enjoy seeing my two musical theater people in their prospective roles.
-
April 10, 2006This one of those rare movies I thought was better than the book. All of the important elements were there, but they extracted the filler. (And believe me, with Dickens, there's a LOT of filler.) The acting, costumes, and music were all superb. This is one of my favorite movies.
-
March 26, 2006Nickleby is a good redition of Dickens novel. But the portrayl of Nickleby is too bitter perfect for my taste.
-
March 24, 2006LMAO. Charlie Hunnam is that guy from Queer As Folk UK. He looks different now LOL. Intresting story.
-
March 18, 2006Jamie Bell is the best! The acting troop was awesome. Other than that.... ehh... I thought the lead was a really bad actor. Worth seeing, but not repeatedly
