I gave it an extra half star b/c of the famous ending...where Stallone dons a lady's wig to fool Rutger Hauer...did I just give it away?

Sylvester Stallone's best film and one of the best films of the 80's. This is a tough thriller centred around a terrorist named Wolfgar, who is intent on bringing New York to its knees. A strong and vivid thriller that has a brilliant music score, well-staged disco sequences, an intense chase sequence through the New York City subway and realistic performances throughout. 10/10.

Three words:
OH MY GOD!
This movie is getting two stars based on the comedic value of the seriousness of this movie alone!
Bombings all over Europe! A discredited terrorist, reminiscent of Carlos The Jackal -played by Rutger Hauer.
This, is probably the first and only serious thing about this movie...
But, as for Sly and Williams -70s fashion just going out, as we move into the 80s -the 70s swagger, as they walk around, the leather jackets, long, thick hair, Sly in sunglasses for the duration ...You cannot watch this movie without laughing, anymore.
It was mildly entertaining, to a degree.
I totally dug Hauer's performance ...Laughed at Sly freezing up every time Hauer got close to him and not being able to shoot -til Williams gets stabbed, of course!
Hauer blows shit up, kill people -as most terrorists do ...and professes that he hates killing, but thats his job!
He even had the decency to have a baby winched down off a cable car -What a Leg end!
Good stuff, folks. If theres nothing on tv, watch this movie lmao -

A classic adventure that postulated future terror threats and the authorities reaction to them -

A highly underatted 80's thriller. Rutger Hauer gives a great performance as a terrorist planning to blow up New York. The only thing is, super cop Stallone is out to stop him. Check it out

From its explosive first scene to the breaktakingly suspenseful denouement, Nighthawks, about a police detective hunting a wily terrorist, is a thoroughly enjoyable, cool action film.

the only thing i could think about through the entire movie was Stallones' acting....it had improved a great deal...
-
August 2, 2008
Middling effort with Rutger the star in bad guy mode again. Basically Sly still cashing in on his Rocky fame, slurring his words as he goes. great soundtrack from Keith Emerson which I own.

An oldie but goodie.
Sly didn't get too much recognition from this one. -
October 24, 2007
Its 1981 release date is very telling as there is still some remnant of 1970's grime and realism in direct contrast to the 80's style action movie hero grandstanding. Nighthawks plays it smart with its bad guy (a first time in America Rutger Hauer) but Stallone and Williams frequently come off as silly. Still a lot of fun.

One of the most underrated cop/thrillers around. One of Stallone's best perforrmances.
-
September 3, 2007
This is a much underrated early 80's Sylvester Stallone action film starring that is actually both surprisingly believable and intense, in a way it plays more in the vine of "The French Connection" than his other films in the genre. The supporting cast are all really good (Rutger Hauer plays another great villain), the script is solid and the direction is well done.

Not a bad movie, I enjoy it.

February 8, 2007
Good quality thriller that showcases the acting talents of Sly, Rutgar, and Billy Dee Williams...a true grisly production and a bearded Sly raises the bar as Deke DeSilva. Rutgar's Wolfgar is sadistic...but I'm sure it didn't take much from his acting range. What happens at the end tho? Weird cutting of violence lets it down...Sly should of had a Kung Fu battle on the streets of New York with Rutgar, wearing the wig still! Bruce Malmuth's direction is sloppy and he continues this in Hard To Kill!

An action flick with good moments that, it seems, is almost forgotten..not too often you hear/see anyone mention it. As usual; Hauer delivers as a bad guy.

An excellent action flick. I enjoyed watching this fight between good vs evil and the dynamic persona that Stallone makes with his character and acting abilities. I wish there were more people like Stallone in action movies because he has an old style tough man attitude that we all enjoy. Sure this movie had no special effects but relied heavily on story and action. I kinda wish there was more interaction between the main character and his ex wife, but it was an action film and i guess back in the days it was nail biting fight scenes (much like chuck norris' work as well) than romance. Unless you tuned into a bond flick. I also wish this movie was longer with more substance. But all in all this is a good movie. Perhaps in 10 years someone will remake this film with updated cinematic techniques for the world to enjoy and broaden it. But there would be a 60 per cent chance the movie will be crap. Oh well :) go rent this golden oldie if you haven't yet.
