November 17, 2008One of those awesome "madcap caper" movies that they don't seem to be able to do anymore, although Steve Martin keeps trying. Watching this makes you realize just how hot Marilyn Monroe really was.
-
November 10, 2008A good, watchable movie - but I never did like watching people doing stupid things in the name of humour...
-
November 6, 2008Even after all these years, this is still the greatest and funniest movie ever made. Marilyn at her very best, and Lemmon and Curtis hilarious, too. Also, let's not forget Joe E. Brown, his expression, "Zowie" says it all.

This is the first film I saw with Marilyn. I've laughed a lot! Very good film, but I wanted to know why this film wons Best Art Direction-Set Decoration in black and white. Besides, shows that it is good even without colors. Once I've seen Marilyn, I thought her gorgeous. Simply fantastic!
-
October 30, 2008one of the best musical and it was really funny...
I understand now why people think Marilyn Monroe is one of the sexiest woman alive. -
October 21, 2008I practically grew up on this movie, and even now, everytime I watch it I laugh and love it all the more. Crossdressers, mobsters and questioning your sexuality; Oh MY! This is one of my all time favorites. Definetly reccomended.
-
October 19, 2008Wilder delivers another classic film starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon & Tony Curtis. The characters are amusing and the script has some laughs peppered thru it.
-
September 27, 2008This movie is hilarious..Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are absoutly hilarious!! and Marilyn was amazing..like in all her movies.
-
September 26, 2008You can't get any better acting then these old Maylin Monroe movies. It's the best acting you'll ever see
-
September 20, 2008This is definetely a five star comedy. Only Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon would be great as two musicians dressing up as girls to join the Sweet Sues to get away from men who were going to kill them. Marilyn Monroe shined in her roll as Sugar Kane. This movie has alot of laughs and had a little bit of romance too. You DEFINETELY can't go wrong with this movie!!!
-
September 16, 2008Some Like It Hot, is a very funny 50's film with the beautiful Marilyn Monroe with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. If you love screw ball comedies and a true classic check this one out!!!
-
August 30, 2008The most hilarious and subversive film ever made about a one-joke premise: sex. That is honestly all that the movie is about. Sure there's a tiny subplot about gangsters and the Valentine's Day Massacre, but its mostly all about different forms of sexual identity. There are hints of transvestitism, lesbianism, homosexuality, and identity confusion. Jack Lemmon is at the heights of his maniac, unaware, totally hapless comedic skills as Jerry/Daphne, the (un)lucky recipient of an eccentric millionaire's affections and on the receiving end of one huge identity crisis. But is Marilyn Monroe breathlessly singing "I Wanna Be Loved By You," and perfecting her ditzy blonde routine to a fine comedic polish that makes the film so beloved. It's a shame this role didn't get her more love from the Hollywood establishment. A Golden Globe really isn't enough of an award for one of the great comedic performances from one of the greatest stars of all-time.
-
August 30, 2008This was so good, though some of the angles were a little cheesy. Jack Lemmon could never pass as a woman. Haha...and of course, Marilyn in her heyday was sexy as hell.

I love Marilyn Monroe and her older movies!!!! :D This is a really great film, I like it how Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, ladies men of course, end up masquerading as two women with unique musical talents (they'd only ever played at clubs with show girls) to get into a Female travelling band. But of course, they fall in love with the stunner, so one of them secretly goes as a wealthy gentleman on the side to get the girl. Whilst the other is about to get married and realises that he's actually a male!!!

August 18, 2008Guys In Drag
This is supposed to be the funniest movie made. I don't know about that. I've seen funnier, but anytime you put two guys in drag you get an automatic laugh. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis were very funny dressed as women. There are a lot of inside jokes about historical events, Hollywood, other movies and actors. The two main characters supposedly witness the St. Valentines Day massacre. The real massacre didn't happen the way they showed in this movie and the gangsters were all fictional, but they were in a garage and the victims were lined up against the wall. One of the subtle jokes here was that they were going to drive 100 miles on 40 cents worth of gas. Marilyn Monroe looked good except when she was on the beach. Supposedly she was pregnant while making this movie which made her look fat. They also put her and all the other women in the film in 1920's style bathing suits. Most of the women in the all female band are good looking. I first saw this movie on TV in 1969 at my Grandmother's house on a black and white TV. She could only get two stations in southeast Oklahoma so it was either on Channel 10 Ada or Channel 12 out of Sherman Texas. This movie has been a standard on late night movie channels or independent stations. -
August 16, 2008Loved this movie so much.It has so many sexual innuendoes for a 50's movie. I never expected it. First Marilyn movie I had ever seen and it is still my favourite.
-
August 15, 2008John Lemon y Tony Curtis son la sal y la pimienta de esta divertida comedia... en la q Marilyn Monroe pone el punto sofistado y sexy
-
August 12, 2008what a great plot. curtis and lemmon are superb. its hillarious. and i love the " nobody talks like that". its great, will allways be watched and allways be funny.
-
August 11, 2008best movie ever! good comedy which is really funny (not like the dumb modern movies)
amazing cast (curtis, lemmon and monroe), catchy soundtrack and interesting plot - that's what makes this movie one of the greates in cinema's history. and famous sentence 'nobody's perfect' has nothing in common with this masterpiece ;) -
August 1, 2008a hilarious and well acted hollywood classic. the use of the st valentines day massacre was brilliant and the story was very well told and a lot of fun. i did have one huge problem with something at the end, which to me played out as a huge flaw. i was shocked that the producers and especially the brilliant director billy wilder let such a thoughtless and glaring problem make its way into the film, but other than my one big issue with the ending i loved this movie. classic comedy.
-
July 29, 2008I don't like this movie nearly as much as most other people. I think it's good and it's funny but when it comes to duos, I'm a lot more entertained by the Odd Couple.
-
July 28, 2008Ok here's how it is: two men (musicians) need to get out of town, the chicago-mob wants them dead, so they dressed up as gals and join an only-female band fleeing out to other state...
...can it get any more FUNNY and interesting than that?
"This little old thing is a gem"
You'll laugh most of the time. -
July 28, 2008Hilarious romantic comedy, starring Marilyn Monroe in her best acting role that I've seen to date. A believable love sick musician looking for a millionaire to take her away from all those dirty saxophone players she falls for on a regular basis. Little does she know that her best friend is not only a cross dressing man but her heart throb, fake millionaire....sounds confusing? you gotta watch it. Great story, great cast, good times.
-
July 28, 2008Oh my God!! A gender bender movie from the 50s and it was done so well. It's just so funny despite the time difference. I love this movie and there's so many sexual innuendos that I never thought I would see or hear in a 50s movie. Ah...I'm in love with this movie.
-
July 27, 2008Very funny comedy that is truly a classic. All the leads are spot on, and the script and direction are damn near perfect.
-
July 27, 2008crazy, chaotic fun. Lemmon's hyperactive antics and Curtis' deadpan wit mesh brilliantly with the beautifully naive Monroe and a great supporting cast. cross-dressing, innuendos, entendres, subtleties, slapstick, and some of cinema's most clever back-and-forth dialogue. Curtis' Cary Grant voice and Lemmon telling him "nobody talks like that!" is just hilarious, as is the scene of all the "maybe" tragedies, such as the stock market crashing or the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn. a sharp, delightful, and masterfully delivered comedy.
-
July 26, 2008Great story, and cast, Marilyn Monroe is divine and enchanting, and Jack Lemon is fantastic, his comedian vein is brilliant, 8.5/10.-
-
July 26, 2008this film is the greatest classic comedy with its wicked screenplay and perfect directing and acting. there were laughs throughout the film
-
July 25, 2008This movie is a real classic that represents the old-style glamour actors/actresses that just don't exist anymore. Marilyn Monroe was the main attraction in this movie, and although she does a great job, so do the other actors. A brave movie of the time with Tnoy Curtis and Jack Lemmon appearing in drag and the movies ending is also controversial. If you enjoy classic old movies (in black and white) or are interested in early great movie productions, this movie is a must.
-
July 23, 2008This movie is considered as a classic for many reasons. The main one: it's extremly fun to watch and Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are just hilarious. And Marilyn, well, she's fantastic.
-
July 17, 2008This film, the second consecutive Billy Wilder film I've reviewed, stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon playing women along with Marilyn Monroe. Curtis and Lemmon witness a murder and need to get out of town and the only way out is to play in an all-woman's band headed for Florida. This plot was all well and good until they actually got to Florida. I guess they needed something else to happen in this film so both Lemmon and Curtis decided to find love interests. This seemed entirely unnecessary as these romances appeared to have no shot at working and were almost mean-spirited. I won't reveal what ends up happening, but I didn't really care for any of this and it significantly detracts from the movie as a whole.
As women, Lemmon and Curtis do a pretty good job. The film was shot in black and white to help hide the fact that they were men and they were fairly believable as women not just in their clothing, but also in the way they acted. Marilyn Monroe did a pretty good job and was actually a better actress than I was expecting. Other than a brief cameo in All About Eve, this is the first time I had seen her in a film.
Overall, this had some funny moments, but overall I didn't care for it all that much. The American Film Institute ranks this as the best comedy of all-time and I'm not sure I agree. I haven't seen many comedies, but Harvey and The Apartment were both better. Still, it's watchable and a person who tends to enjoy comedies would probably find this enjoyable.
70/100

UP NEXT: Yet another Billy Wilder film, Ace in the Hole. -
July 11, 2008Great film. Very funny. jack lemmon is so hilarious! the way he complains and whines to tony curtis is just gold. Also Freddie Mercury's favorite film
-
July 8, 2008Iv'e never laughed so much as to Jack Lemmons tango scene! One of the best comedies and films ever made!
-
July 7, 2008Sincerely awesome! What a great comedy! Great situation, great cinematography and music, so *burlesque* so funny, so goodly act, a perfect Monroe, beautifu; as always, so funny, so memorable. Now I know why it's consider one of the best comedy of all time, it's funny and it's brilliant, what more can we ask?
-
June 29, 2008probaly one of my only favourite black and white movie. 2 male musicains, get away from some gangsters who just shot down loads of people and they have no money, looking for jobs but the only job there is, is for women. So they dress up as Women and on the way they see this amazing women they both fight for.
-
June 25, 2008Perfect, hilarious and timeless. One of those movies you can never tire of watching. There's nothing I would change about this movie.

June 13, 2008HA! Men dressed like women!
I'm easy to please and handsome. Anyway, I have to say that I love Billy Wilder. I also love Jack Lemmon. Tony Curtis ain't bad either. (I love you, Spartacus!) This really is one of those absolutely fantastic, ridiculous movies that is just going to be enjoyable regardless. Honestly, even though the drag thing has been done a million times before and after, this is probably the only movie that pulls it off so that it objectively funny and well made. That's insane to me.
Michelle and I were talking about how Marilyn Monroe is not that good of an actress unless she plays an over the top part. Admittedly, she's kind of the straight woman in this movie and she does a pretty good job. Sure, there's goofiness to her character and she is playing the sexual bombshell, which is nothing new to the girl. (Also, the alcoholism is probably nothing new to the late Ms. Monroe, but I still give her credit for acting.) But she did a fairly decent job in this one. I mean, it is probably hard to out-do Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon running around in drag doing some priceless bits. But you have to also love the innocence of this kind of era. The most recent drag queen comedies that I could think of (where the guy pulls a reverse Shakespeare and dresses up like a girl to hide his true identity) were Mrs. Doubtfire, Juwanna Mann, and Ladybugs. All three of them made it sound like the guy in drag made an ugly looking girl, but not in Some Like It Hot. Sure, those other comedies all had a man who was obsessed with the dude in drag, but this made it sound like all men would go for any woman, regardless of how she looked. It created a new sense of silliness to the movie and I did appreciate that. After all, there would be no Bosom Buddies if it wasn't for Some Like It Hot.
There's something about Wilder's sense of timing that is impeccable. He manages to make what would be a very generic concept and stamp his name all over it. There's a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that makes this movie truly recoginizable as a Billy Wilder film without having to see the opening credits. Perhaps it's the camera and the cuts or just the general atmosphere of the entire film. I see the same clean, earnest style in all of his movies, even dramas like Sunset Boulevard and The Spirit of St. Louis.
I have to say that the secondary characters leading up to the end are absolutely priceless. The madly in love millionaire seems unshocked by Jack Lemmon's revelations and that is probably what makes the movie work the most. I find it funny that one of the most famous images is the last shot of the film where Lemmon reveals his secret to the lovestruck millionaire. There's no other way this could have worked as well and I applaud Wilder and his team for this decision.
This really is one of those absolutely priceless movies that should be on everyone's shelf and is well deserving of all the notoriety it gets. It is far more than a men in drag movie, but takes slapstick and situational comedy to a new level. -
June 12, 2008Combine that title with lead actress Marylin Monroe and there was no way the producers of this film could fail.
-
June 9, 2008Funny, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in drag. This is a movie I could watch over and over. Monroe is gorgeous as usual and it's just a fun ride.
-
May 22, 2008First time i have seen Marilyn Monroe in a a movie and she is really good, and the most beaturtiful actress ever !!!
the movie was good to :p -
May 11, 2008this was great! really funny and it surprised me with the level of humour. one of my favourites definetly!
-
May 3, 2008Hard to believe - a fifty year old movie. It is pretty funny - Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in drag, Marilyn Monroe shaking her booties and singing (could she really sing? I had no idea).
I should not have waited 50 years to see this movie (but nobody's perfect). -
April 26, 2008One of the greatest films ever! The performances are excellent, and it's hilarious! Love Marilyn's number "I Wanna Be Loved By You"! Iconic song!
-
April 23, 2008Absolutely hilarious. Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon & Marilyn Monroe make the perfect combination of characters for this movie.
-
April 23, 2008I loved the hilarious Cary Grant impression by Curtis as his character Joe tries to win Sugar's heart by impersonating a suave, debonair millionaire.
-
April 22, 2008"Nobody's perfect."
Billy Wilder became forever famous for his classics; Some Like It Hot is one of those memorable, timeless, unforgettable films that has lost very little of its original appeal. Wilder has crafted a risqué, gender-binding comedy rich in sexual innuendo, steamy seductions, and spoofs of gender stereotypes.
The very straightforward plot follows two men; Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) who are simple jazz musicians seeking decent work in Chicago at the peak of prohibition. Soon the two become unfortunate witnesses to a gangland crime and hence are on the gang's hit list. In a hurry to get out of town to avoid being whacked by the mob, they rename themselves Josephine and Daphne, pose as girls and get themselves into an all-woman jazz band as they head on an all expenses paid trip to Florida.
Then a highly hilarious love triangle emerges; the lead singer of the band (Monroe) falls for Josephine (who has posed as a young British millionaire), and an old millionaire (Brown) falls for a very bewildered Daphne. On top of this a bellhop also takes a fancy to Josephine (a very good recurring joke). Sure this sounds like an episode of a daytime soapie, but the story is handled well and the script is superb.
At first I was quite reluctant to watch a movie rich in themes about transvestites; however the first scene when we look at the two men now dressed in drag...had me in stitches and sold the idea. On top of this the laughs emerged fairly quickly.
The two central male (/female) characters were given an array of fantastic lines to deliver. Then when Marilyn Monroe appeared...I was sold. She is certainly in her prime and at her best. She's young, angelic and stunning. It's no wonder she became one of the sex icons of the 20th Century. Tony Curtis displays a vast array of different characters here. In addition to being his actual character, he's also a woman and a young British gentleman. His voices were all done to perfection. I especially liked his British accent. Jack Lemmon is one really fantastic actor. He can be very funny when he wants to. Kudos to the screenwriter for conceiving a perfect character for Jack to work with.
The major stand out here, though, was Joe E. Brown as a perverted old millionaire who wants to marry Jack's character. This sets the stage for the very famous final line that had me laughing for several minutes after the film concluded. With these classic films, it was pivotal to have memorable lines of dialogue such as that.
Some Like It Hot remains an extremely enjoyable romp after almost 40 years. The laughs never get old. Some of the sight gags even had me laughing. I never would have thought that an old film could supply golden laughs.
Some Like It Hot is classic stuff in every sense of the word. It's highly memorable and everlasting; in short, a film you cannot afford to miss. Don't hesitate to pick this one off the shelf. -

-
April 2, 2008One of the all time great movies, starring 2 of the all time greatist actors...Jack Lemmon, and, of course, Marilyn Monroe. It's hilarious and just so encapsulating, you just want to watch it again and again.
-
April 1, 2008Worth it for the last line alone. Also, if you like Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, the episode "Men in Pink" is based on this movie . . .
-
March 30, 2008wat a film!!!! i jst recentl;y finished a wilder marathon and of corse i left the best 2 last!!! this film is great lemmon is soooo funi!!! marilyn is great but itz lemmon thta steals the show he plays a chick so well!!! jst laugh afta laugh wit this film!!!

March 24, 2008A 1959 Black and White movie which is still worth watching! Perhaps the oldest movie I remember watching.
-
March 11, 2008PARFAIT
March 9, 2008Probably the dirtiest movie to come out of 1950's Hollywood, and possibly the funniest. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon play a couple of musicians who dress as women and join an all-girl band to hide from gangsters on their tail. Jack Lemmon is a scream, and the last line of the film is a classic.
-
March 7, 2008Some Like it Hot initially seems like a simple Marilyn Monroe vehicle, but surprises with some clever writing that reminds you of the snappy dialog of the 40s and 50s; a trait that seems lost on more contemporary comedies. Make no mistake, Some Like it Hot is sex comedy with a story that is about as shallow as they come, but is undeniably well crafted. It machine-guns jokes at you, and is bound to score more than a few hits. Let's face it, what's funnier than men in women's clothing? Well, a lot, but it's still pretty funny.
-
February 22, 2008I thought it was pure comic genious. and Marilyn Monroe is really saucy. I'm crackin up right now thinking about it!
-
February 6, 2008My favourite black and white film. When you watch this film you can almost see the real Marilyn. Its funny, and to be honest when they were singing in parts I wanted to get up and dance to.
I love the music in this, and the ending is classic. Just because its a black and white film DON'T PUT IT DOWN. Its a great film. Another classic Marilyn film, with great co stars Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis.
(Apparently Tony Curtis found it very hard to work with Marilyn because she was so demanding) -
January 25, 2008LOL I REMEMBER THAT I GREW WITH THIS FILM , I LOVE THE COMEDY FROM JACK lEMON AND TONNY CURTIES, IF U WANT ENJOY U HAVE TO SEE IT
-
January 23, 2008God this is a almost perfect movie, absolutely hilarious!!!!! This movie entertained me with its stupid, silly innocent humour helped mainly by Marilyn Monroe, who is in her usual role of a ditzy blonde who rather annoyed me and reminded me of Latha......But White Chicks completely ripped off this movie and copied it in everyway, except that Some Like it Hot actually worked and got me laughing in a way that White Chicks could never manage. Goddamn it the ending was munted but in my opinion was THE funniest moment in the film. I know I always say so and so sucks so bad but all Im trying to is find true gems like this one. The only reason I didnt give it a five is because its a comedy and didnt appeal enough to me.
-
January 16, 2008Jerry: Have I got things to tell you!
Joe: What happened?
Jerry: I'm engaged.
Joe: Congratulations. Who's the lucky girl?
Jerry: I am!
Hilarious movie! -
January 15, 2008We saw this film in class and wow! I have to say this really is one of the best comedies I've seen in my life. And that's coming from a person who's not particularly a fan of old, and most especially black and white films. Jack Lemmon was very, very funny in this film! I definitely like this more than The Apartment! This is also the first Marilyn Monroe film that I've seen and she really has incredible sex appeal.
-
January 10, 2008Billy Wilder goes wild... and hilarious. Some Like it Hot is an exclusively original, stylish and brilliant comedy. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis were exceptionally perfect for such roles. And hear at their female voices! LOL. Fine comedy and a must-see classic.

January 1, 2008This movie was unbelievably hilarious, and tony curtis is soooooooooo funny. This is a must see, and will be funny in any situation and any day and age as the creator of the cross-dressing antics of men and women.
-
December 30, 2007Haha. Some Like It Hot is hilarious. The newer generation wouldn't find it funny, but I sure did. It's an almost perfect comedy. Marilyn Monroe is also in it; you can't go wrong with that. Watch this movie ASAP, believe me, you won't be disappointed. One of my favorite classics.
-
December 17, 2007Sow it first time yesterday and I must say that I din't like it that much. Jack & Tony were fabolous... Damn, black & white
-
December 16, 2007i saw this in florida. it was this movies in which maralyn monroe gets hit on the ass with a jet of steam from a train. i think derek jeter got his inspiration from this movie cuz those 2 guys looked pretty good in drag :)
-
December 1, 2007It might have tackled some sexual taboos of the day (everything from bisexuality to androgyny is addressed and even subtly championed here), but the comedy itself - the jokes, the zingers, the banter - lightly tickles when it should jab as much as its subject matter does.
-
November 30, 2007This is what I call Marilyn Monroe's best work ever. It has a killer cast with the brilliant Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis who make this one of the funniest noir films I've ever seen. One of my favorites!
