Young Jack Nicholson, Boris Karloff, Vincent Price.. how could you possibly go wrong?

Classic camp horror fun from director Roger Corman loosely based on Poe's classic poem. An amusing Tongue-in-cheek horror romp staring two horror legends Boris Karloff and Vincent Price. We also have a very young Jack Nickolson in one of his earlier roles and the great Peter Lorre. Although it's plane to see how dated this looks,it's still astounding what you can get out of a limited budget. There's lots of fun to be had here, the cast alone is a must see,the script is loads of fun, with funny one-liners a plenty, and some of the worst home-made SFX add to the charm of this classic gothic romp. Great fun.

Pulpy, flamboyant, outright parody, wonderfully entertaining, the culminating battle of wills escalates into an all-out magical war between the stars Boris Karloff and Vincent Price, with Peter Lorre and a young Jack Nicholson.

A bit cornball, but worth watching for the chance to see three horror legends (Price, Lorre and Karloff) on-screen together. Also features a young Jack Nicholson in one of his first film appearances.

Cute adaptation of Poe's work with the then reigning masters of horror. Great to see a very young Jack Nicholson and the liberal use of stock footage.

i'm not sure why corman used the titles of poe stories for so many movies but the movies and the stories sure have very little in common. this movie is silly campy fun with vincent price & boris karloff as battling magicians. peter lorre is very annoying while jack nicholson is a nice suprise.

A very strange and unusual film. Not at all what I was expecting, but surprisingly I found familiar faces in this film, such as Jack Nichoson.
I was expecting more of a thriller or horror, considering it is a story by Edgar Allen Poe, instead I get a strange goofy film that deals with Wizarding Duel. I was not highly inthraled, but it was interesting all togehter. -

Not the best take on Poe, but after all it was just a poem. But the movie is utterly rediculous at points...but it's still poe and Vincent Price.

Not quite what I was expecting! Amusing film, Vincent Price is cool as ever!
-
August 16, 2008
It doesn't follow the poem by Edgar Allan Poe, meaning it's not what you might be expecting. Instead we see Vincent Price in an adventure that's literally laughable.
-
August 15, 2008
Very silly, very entertaining, a sort of exploitation film with ol' time stars. Well worth it if anything for the pleasure of watching Lorre, Karloff and Nicholson together.

Cheesy and over-the-top in all the right ways, The Raven is all about having fun with the genre. Great fun, and if you've ever wanted to watch Vincent Price and Boris Karloff battle with magic lightning bolts, this is the movie for you!

How to make the perfect B-Comedy-Horror: Bring together Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and amazingly, Jack Nicholson, under the direction of who else but Roger Corman himself, and base it all very loosely on Edgar Allen Poe and make it funny. Enough said.

Hokey B-movie magic. This film is great if only because it is so cheesy. Great cast here too.

This was Roger Corman camp at it's best (if you can measure camp in greatness). A young Jack Nicholson was on hand to deliver some great comic relief.

May 8, 2007
A dual of wizards between bad Boris Karloff and good Vincent Price, with Peter Lorre as the bumbling wizard, and a very young Jack Nicholson in a bit part. It's all deliciously cheesy and great fun.

A silly camp-fest that really doesn't have much to do with the poem its based on. Seeing a very young Jack Nicholson is kind of a treat. Great Cast.
