Come closer. Once upon a time when the world was filled with wonder, little creatures share the Earth with humans and magic was a way of life. Once upon a time begins now, when the Potter family move into a San Francisco apartment complex where a wicked troll king in search of a powerful mystic ring that will change him back into human form. Living next door to the Potters is a powerful witch named Eunice St. Clair, who must join with Harry to fight the troll in order to save the world at all costs.
Directed by John Carl Buechler, Troll features good acting performances from the following cast:
1.) Noah Hathaway (Harry Potter Jr.)
2.) Michael Moriarty (Harry Potter Sr.)
3.) Shelley Hack (Anne Potter)
4.) Jenny Beck (Wendy Potter)
5.) Sonny Bono (Peter Dickinson)
6.) June Lockhart (Eunice St. Clair)
When I wanted to watch all of Troll it appeared to be an okay but cheesy campfest due to the slow plot and cheap special effects (SFX). I almost fell asleep to this but managed to rewind back to the parts I thought to have missed. And dang it, I thought the days of the B-list genre were so ancient history but this '80s film title proved me wrong! Oh, fine...I did like the movie for its weirdness and for being a Gremlins knock-off, though the ugly-looking troll is no Gizmo at all. Even more weirder is the obviously-sounding shared names of Hathaway's and Moriarty's father-and-son characters of "Harry Potter". While viewing this I was asking myself: Did J.K. Rowling watch the Troll and ripped off the character's name without permission or did that as a strange coincidence even if she never saw it? Maybe, but I don't know how did that happen - at least there was no mention to "Muggles". -

So bad it's good movie about a troll hunting for a ring in an apartment complex. Poor plot, crappy special effects and terrible acting.

Comic hooror film, the special effects are not bad if you consider the year it was made. Good cast. A lot of the movie is lame but there are enough decent spots too keep the viewer watching.

Loved this one in my youth... a bit cheesy at times, dated effects, but I love the weird goblins and trolls and faeries and such. And that goblin song was just creepy as hell, really cool.

Well don't fool yourself, it's bad.
A bit of comic and some strange Troll spawns makes it worthwhile though.
The kid(Jenny Beck) "re-placed" by the troll is freaky as fuck. She scares the shit out me even. Bastard.. -

A puzzling attempt at crafting... what, exactly? A family-friendly horror flick? A weird, atmospheric fable about mythical creatures and the power of imagination? A sitcom-style comedy that just happens to have rubber monsters running around in it? It's hard to tell exactly what the filmmakers were shooting for, but what can be said about John Carl Buechler's truly oddball fantasy is that it's got its own uniquely creepy vibe to it, thanks largely to bizarre tonal shifts that leave you truly confused as to whether you're suppsed to be charmed or frightened by all the grotesque latex critters running around.

Supposedly "adult" version of Labyrinth and it's ilk, to be placed in the same file as "Ghoulies" and "Critters". The best scene is one in which genial star Michael Moriarty dances around in his living room. For ages.

In the same category as Leprechaun and the Chucky movies. A poorly-made puppet slashing people to death. Not scary at all.

Unlike other bad horror movies, this wasn't even remotely enjoyable. But it was loads better than the sequel. Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character was absolutely hilarious, and not really in a good way.

Of all the Gremlins knock-offs to emerge during the 80's (Critters, Ghoulies, Munchies etc), Troll is the most original and fun. Starring Noah Hathaway, one of the least annoying child actors from the time, the plot is made up of classic "magic kingdom returning to rule the earth" fantasy fodder. So here's the story - a troll comes out of nowhere and possesses a little girl who has just moved into a new apartment complex. The girl's brother becomes suspicious of his sister, and at the same time, the troll reeks havoc amongst the residents, one by one by turning them into these big green plant pods that later turn into trees and spawn little goblins as roots. The boy, named Harry Potter Jr, meets a woman named Eunice St. Clair, who is one of the residents in the apartment block. He learns that she is a witch and that trolls, dragons, goblins, and everything else in fairy tales is absolutely true. Eunice believes Harry and tells him that the name of the troll who has possessed his sister is 'Turok', who also, coincidentally, used to be her husband. Eunice then helps Harry get his sister back and, in the process, tries to save the small apartment complex and it's occupants.

I can remember seeing this movie when i was about 12 and it was one of my fave movies, unfortunately viewing it now through adult eyes was quite disappointing!
Still its worth a look if you like your fantasy mixed with a little horror and humour but avoid the sequel at all costs! -
