The Buzz:

Plot:
Based on Evelyn Waugh’s classic novel, Brideshead Revisited is the very English story of middle-class atheist Charles Ryder (Goode) and his years-long relationship with an aristocratic Catholic family named Flyte. Ryder forms a close friendship at college with boozy Sebastian Flyte (Whishaw) and later marries his sister Julia Flyte (Atwell). The novel upon which the movie is based was named by Time as one of the 100 best novels of all time. Granada Television produced a miniseries for television also based on the book. First aired on ITV in Britain, this series has become widely regarded as one of the finest miniseries of all time.

Sleeper Potential:
Curiosity will be high, given the book’s enduring appeal and the success of the 1980s English miniseries starring Jeremy Irons.

Popcorn Alternative:
Go easy on the wine, Sebastian.

Indie Extras:

  • Director Jarrold knows this territory, having helmed last year’s Becoming Jane.
