TinTin COMIC/CARTOON MOVIE VERSION
Title The Adventures of Tintin
Date of Release Introduced on Jan. 10, 1929 IN LIMBO, Universal Pictures rejected the final budget by Spielberg and Jackson as of Sept 2008.
Creators Hergé, the pseudonym of Belgian artist Georges Remi Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson will each direct and co-produce one of three Tintin films planned. Spielberg’s is up first. Films to be scripted by Hugo Award-winning Steven Moffat, current writer and soon to be executive producer/head writer of British cult tv show, Doctor Who.
Genre Comics. Also European television shows and toys. Computer-enhanced live-action, like Golum in The Lord of the Rings.
Story As part of his reportorial duties, Tintin travels the world and gets tangled up in local shenanigans, often with a historic or cultural flavor. The stories were serialized in various magazines, but not newspapers and later collected in books by destination. For example, Tintin in America, Tintin in Tibet. No official word yet, but rumor has it the film will be based on three Tintin books, supposedly The Crab With the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure.
Characters Tintin, a young reporter; Snowy, his fox terrier; Captain Haddock, salty companion; Professor Calculus, brainy associate Tintin, a young reporter; Snowy, his fox terrier; Captain Haddock, salty companion
Stars
Andy Serkis (Captain Haddock), Thomas Sangster (Tintin)
Dialogue Pretty wordy and charmingly square and dated, perhaps owing to translation from French.
Aesthetic Sunny and curious. Criticized for whitewashing the places and people Tintin visits. Dated in a Boy Scouts kinda way. Tintin’s upcurling bangs are iconic. "We want Tintin's adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Herge created," Spielberg told Variety.
Ambiance Upbeat, even the dark and dangerous stuff.
Audience Aimed at kids. Original-language versions popular among students learning French. Aimed at kids and curious adults.
Cool Factor Cultish in United States, more mass-market overseas. Hollywood usually reduces the coolness quotient.
Cheese Factor Tintin’s pretty square.
Adaptation Accuracy
Waiting to see.
Better or Bastardization? Gotta be better.
