A Bit of Light

Creatively unremarkable, with uninspired visuals and editing that play like a workshop in flashbacks and cool-versus-warm emotional motifs.

While it has some major foundation flaws that go back to the source material, A Bit Of Light still remains heavy enough to leave a lasting impression.

It's heart-wrenching to see Ella's struggles to stay sober and find hope, but Winstone's turn as her patient, frustrated, but ultimately loving father injects much-needed warmth into her journey.

The final chapter breaks everything open like a kick in the emotional stomach, and suggests something outside themselves. Wow.

The script here, based on the writer's play, has a notable outlier among its cast...

A Bit of Light is, ultimately, too exaggerated and phony to work as intended


This is a beautifully written film with a strong understanding of the cracks that appear in people over time as they wrestle with emotional baggage and multiple obstacles.
