Yes it’s beautifully shot, but it’s sooo long and meandering… It does however, make you wonder just how many “conscientious objectors” we get in times of war… Hacksaw Ridge has a similar theme, and it’s a better movie.

Visually stunning, and heartbreaking, the best film I've seen this year. It stayed in my minds for weeks afterwards.

Its poetic nature, empathy evoked by the poignant philosophical narrative, and James Howard's music strike right at the heart. When a film elicits such a powerful catharsis that you can barely hold back tears, writing anything more becomes futile.

Malick complicates the narrative in so many interesting ways that I just don't think I want or need to see a more straightforward biopic about this man.

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen! It's beautiful, loving, wise, and engaging. I learned from this movie. Terrence Malick, the writer and director, is one of the all-time-great film-makers. He also did "Days of Heaven," one of the most beautiful movies ever made. Yey!!!

Like all Malick's movies, you expect beautiful visuals and to feel the movie, more than understand it, but no amount of clever prose can do justice to this work of art. I could just feel Fani's grief but grief with fear for herself and her girls and the future. It haunts me.

Can't stop thinking about this film. It is so powerful

A slow burn of a movie but one that is deeply moving and has beautiful scenery.

Cinematography, editing, brilliant interaction between the cast is beautiful. Others have said the acting is stilted but it needs to be assessed within its historical period, they are not intellectuals they are farmers. It rings totally true. A period not often shown as sympathetically as this film does. The main character develops within the viewer. Loved it.

A meditative emotional viewing. Your understanding of the film is what Malick wants you to see. A story needed to be told and heard in a time where self obsession and nihilism reigns supreme. Allow this art to take you away from it all and find your true purpose cause that's what this film does.
