Touching true story, but this probably made for a better book than this movie gave it justice. The first half is sooo slow. The pacing is just off, and the movie is way longer than it needs to be at 2:11. The acting, dialogue, and the leads' chemistry were flat. These are typically good actors, so a lot of the fault weighs on the script and direction (sorry Denzel). It's almost a little painful to watch in the beginning, when they are telling the love story, and all the flashbacks/flashforwards didn't help. The film finally picked up in the last third of the movie, when they focused on the mom and now pre-teen son (cutie Jalon Christian), as she started sharing with Jordan, the story of how he was born and his father's time in the army. I had really looked forward to seeing this, but the quality and story being more like a cheesy Lifetime movie were disappointing, IMHO! March2022

Missing that special ingredient, so story just plods along. Like-able story. Like-able cast. Wish I liked it more.

Directed by Denel Washington, "A Journal for Jordan" plays like a Hallmark movie that can never quite rise above the saccharin tone throughout. It's a shame because the actors are very appealing. Chante Adams comes across like an everyday woman trying to make her life better while tryin to balance a career with a personal life. She falls for a soldier, played by Michael B. Jordan. He is always a good actor, but this role only really requires him to look good without his shirt on. He doesn't get a chance to flex much of his acting muscles. Like a Hallmark movie, this one makes him a cliched romantic hero type that women swoon over. The intentions here are very good, but a more biting film would have been better than this bland tear-jerker.

So predicable that the liberal Hollywood critics bashed this film. It’s a wonderful and meaningful story about American heroism. The woke just can’t be burdened with an unbiased review. Denzel’s mistake is that the soldier wasn’t a transgender who deserts his unit & migrates to Cuba.
