Might be a tear jerker? A great film!

I enjoyed this movie & the story it told about a young boy and a passion for learning to cook along with trying to satisfy his family and the variety of religious backgrounds they came from. It show the pressures as parents that we impose on our children sometimes along with the fact that they can see & hear us when we fight.

It's a beautiful charming story about a 12 old who has more wits, love, compassion and brain than his whole religiously and culturally split and confronted family (Jews/Muslims/Palestinians). Too bad that this world has few of his kind and endless numbers of people like his grandparents.

Abe is an abysmal film that fails in multiple areas, especially due to its high potential themes and story. Noah schnapps performance is fine, as is most of the acting, but the plot is nonsensical and inconsistent. What could have been a beautiful story about religion and cooking turns into odd dialogue, mediocre cinematography, and an over usage of internet terms like hashtags with cringe and unrealistic bullies. Boring, joyless, and weak, Abe is a failure of a film with few high points. However the few high points of the film do elevate it. The emotional scenes improve the films quality and do wash away the weak moments, yet they still exist. Mark Margolis gives a great performance, and the second half of the film is much superior to the first. If only the rest of the film could be as strong as the ending portions

    This movie was extremely cringe.

We've seen this sort of film before. It gets an extra 1/2 star for the discussion of a flavor map and for a fine performance by the late Mark Margolis.
