American Underdog doesn't ever really connect the modest virtuousness of Kurt and Brenda to Kurt's ascension as a quarterback.

"American Underdog" is a thoroughly predictable yet hugely entertaining sports biopic that is bound to please almost anyone who's not a sourball cynic or a snarky critic.

The film is sanitized to the point of sterility.

Warner's story is inspirational but intricate, and this wan film struggles to balance simple storytelling with the complexities of the sport.

Each scene has its obvious purpose; you can almost see the scaffolding of the script behind the words. And yet.

The just-good-enough tale of a nice guy who worked hard and believed in himself and eventually got his chance to shine.

A Tride and True American Football Story that will inspire many

American Underdog is that feel-good film you admire for the emotions it arouses and the admiration it creates. For the dreamers, as much for the ones who failed as the ones who found achievement.

This is the Erwin Brothers' most polished effort yet.

Casting this film is one of the keys to its success. Levy not only has a similar physical appearance to Warner, but he comes across onscreen as a genuinely nice guy.
