[[very soft spoiler alert]] In the crux of the film the main character does something completely out of character with everything we have been shown about her for true last 90 minutes because someone threatens to take away something that the main character doesn’t even have. It makes no sense. It feels very much like Baker is shoe horning the film’s story into into the confines of his script because he wanted to get to a specific ending, rather than follow his characters where they would naturally go when put into the situation he created. It’s disorienting, and I can only see it making sense if the audience blindly accepts the myth that rich people can get away with everything, or if the main character believed that (but this is a plot point we don’t get).

All this did for sex workers was humiliate them. Terrible movie.

For the good reviews it had, and comparisons it drew to Pretty Woman, I was disappointed. It definitely borrowed some scenes/dialogue from pretty woman, but it is not the Julia Roberts star vehicle. Most of the movie seemed built on cliches, and the scenes were not so much written as Improvised. I did like the ending, but then it has a weird end of movie cut to silent credits, which just seemed out of place. There is some merit, but overall I would pass, or at least wait for free streaming.

Oh my god, this film completely blew me away. As a huge Mikey Madison fan, I had insanely high expectations going into this and I was scared I may have overhyped it and it would somewhat disappoint me, but it was just the complete opposite. Those expectations were completely blown out of the water. I seriously went through almost every single emotion possible during this and ended up crying in the theater by the end, and those emotions were only heightened by the credits beginning with Ani crying for the first time and slowly fading into silence. Every decision from camera placement and movement, the lighting, the music, the staging, seriously EVERYTHING was so meticulous and perfectly done while looking so effortless. Like, this is a masterclass in filmmaking in every aspect. I could keep gushing over the making of this film, but I seriously need to talk about Mikey’s performance. While the whole cast was great, Mikey was on a complete other level. She embodied the character of Ani flawlessly and not a single other person on this planet could have portrayed her half as well as Mikey did, and when she gets on stage to accept that Oscar for Best Actress, I will be tearing up because I always knew she had this superstar quality in her and I can’t wait for the whole world to see that. She doesn’t know of my existence (and probably never will lol) but I am so unbelievably proud of what she accomplished with this film, and so early on in her career. Believe every positive review you have seen from critics, this film and Mikey Madison are the real deals and deserve every single award and every bit of praise it has been getting.

Anora was a tragic story about pathetic people who, irrespective of their places in society, are going nowhere good. The characters were unlikeable, the plot was essentially to watch people you don't care about smoke, do drugs, have sex, and basically be unproductive societal misfits. Recommend that anyone considering seeing this movie should save their money and spend it on streaming something good.

My favorite movie this year! The acting is incredible, the story is heartbreaking & hilarious at the same time. Highly recommend!!! Definitely a front runner for Best Picture & Best Actress 🙌🏻

What a funny film! Such great madcap stuff going on, but shot through with emotion and an interesting story. Very well directed, very well acted. Not what I expected but in a really good way.

It’s consistently funny but always showing you this world with a brutal honesty that really wallops when Baker finally lets it.

Held my attention for the 2 hours +. So strange yet compelling. The acting is award winning.

If you give Anora a chance it will grow on you. However, its first 20 minutes I was wondering why I was there. The arc takes some time to find its footing but ultimately it works. Mikey Madison is pretty awesome. Tough but fragile - kind of like the movie itself. Give it a shot.
