Anyone But You
audience Reviews
, 87% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe advertising for this movie was terrible - making it look like a BookTok style "enemies to lovers" movie with a focus on the characters being shitty to one another. I was surprised to discover that it's actually losely based on "Much Ado About Nothing" and feels much more like a modernized version of a traditional rom-com. The movie has a nice balance of cheesy romance and steamier scenes. There are a couple of scenes with some weird and frankly unecessary nudity from the Australian background characers, but other than that it was a great watch.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsEndless views of boobs and male physique Terrible Australian stereotype Trying to be “ cool” by incorporating a same sex couple Horrible acting, all seems constructed and absolutely over the top and not believable Boring to no end
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsAnyone But You (2023), starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, is a breezy, enjoyable rom-com that blends humor with a little heart. The film follows Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell), two individuals who can’t stand each other but are forced into a fake-dating situation when their lives intertwine due to a family wedding. As the ruse progresses, the two begin to develop real feelings, despite their initial animosity. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell share fantastic chemistry, making their on-screen banter feel sharp and authentic. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic is well-executed, offering a mix of comedic moments and sweet, vulnerable exchanges. The film doesn’t reinvent the rom-com wheel, with a predictable plot and familiar beats, but it’s nonetheless entertaining thanks to the strong performances and lighthearted tone. While it doesn’t break new ground, Anyone But You is an easy, enjoyable watch, perfect for fans of rom-coms looking for a fun, feel-good movie.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsIf the movie used actors with less... appeal... then the movie would be a tremendous flop. Predictable writing, overly-aggressive script, and its attempt to be self-meta are some of the reasons I would choose any other movie but you.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsOverall enjoyable, but definitely cheesy. I know that’s expected with romcoms but it was a bit overkill. Also think the dialogue was trying too hard to be gen z, which kinda worked sometimes but mostly added to the cringe. Love Sydney and Glenn though
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsAlthough mainly generic, it offers solid story backed up by just about decent performances from its cast.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is a sweet little movie. Some parts seem a bit contrived. However, For a nice little lift us up movie... Try it on.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt’s a guilty pleasure movie. Nothing ground breaking but it’s light and amusing. Glen Powell is very charming and Sydney Sweeney is incredibly hot. They’re a very watchable couple. It’s got some very funny moments.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2 stars were for the slick back and forth zingers and Sweeney’s presence But the rest of the movie is a hard zero The very definition of contrived and formulaic with the only attempt at originality - an Australian setting - forced in them due to the grants given by Aus and NSW film industry
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI give the 2 stars just for Sydney Sweeney.... nothing for the rest of the movie. Stock standard rom-com (not much comedy though...) with a flaccid storyline and token Aussie actors asked to deliver their lines with the heaviest Aussie accent they could muster.. The main fascination for this movie was how much the bill would have been for the multiple water rescues if this was real life drama...
