Awaken

Lowe's cavalcade of extraordinary imagery coalesces into something more than just background noise...

There is little of substance here, as Lowe's extremely high-tech cameras (they shoot at a phenomenal rate of 938 frames per second) sweep across 35 territories...

It might feel good to gawk at the wonder and mystery of this strange third rock from the sun, but there's no real point to that emotional journey without some rationale for taking it in the first place.

This is a valiant effort, but not worth the price.

As with others in this genre, "Awaken" is a gorgeous, mesmerizing work of cinematic poetry, but also sometimes boring and frustrating.

If all you want to do is sit back and let an array of undeniably trippy visuals wash over you for 75 minutes, Awaken manages to get that job done.

Awaken doesn't announce the arrival of an original filmmaking voice, but one will walk away with a renewed appreciation for the breathtaking wonders of the world.
